London, England - Saturday June 27 Final full day in Europe - First up is Westminster Abbey, then a boat tour on the Thames - using the London Pass and finally a tour of the Royal Observatory at Greenwich |
Westminster Abbey - the histories of the church and of England are intertwined. Kings and Queens are crowned here, state funerals are held here and royalty is buried here. |
29 kings and queens are buried here, among 3000 tombs. King Edward the Confessor, Queen Elizabeth I, Queen Mary I and King Henry VII are buried here, as are Mary Queen of Scots, and a number of poets and writers, including Geoffrey Chaucer. No photographs were permitted inside. |
The City Cruises boat ride is included in the London Pass. We embarked at Westminster bridge. |
