Theme 1. Education
 What do you most want to change or improve about our community/region?
  Education K-12 & Univ.
  Better educational opportunities
  Improved education
 Why is this important? How does this affect you?
  Increases awareness and cultural competence
  Provokes thinking – offers challenge to status quo
  Provides upward mobility
  University fosters innovation – take away education, take away innovation
  Economic driver
  Future of everything – gets people out of poverty
  Economic asset – attracts new business
  Concern for kids having a good education and quality job opportunities – we're creating a 3rd world country
  What people / voters want
  Wants to be able to have good conversations
  Opportunity for children
  Public investment in education
  Equal access to education
  Teachers make the difference – not just $$

  Commitment to bicycling infrastructure and alternate transportation

  Bike friendliness needs improvement but is a darn fine start

  Reduce dependence on autos for transportation
  Public transit
  Not very bike or pedestrian friendly
  More bikes, fewer cars, more/better transit
  Public transportation system

  Street car is a start
  Bike on main arterial streets – hazard for everyone – sidewalks
  Pedestrians need to be considered
  Light rail is an economic driver
  Get away from cars – need alternatives

  Small and large parks important – swimming pools
  Want whole park to be open including swimming pools

  Variety of housing stock

  Sprawl
  Sprawl
  Developer greed destroying historic neighborhoods
  University's destructive behavior toward surrounding neighborhoods
  To see more pride of ownership including renters
 Why is this important? How does this affect you?
  Land trusts – preserve open space
  Infrastructure needs to be considered if we increase density – more expensive
  Tear down seedy neighborhoods and build high-density family homes
  Mixed income housing that provides amenities
  More density in central core
  Integrate high density but don't lose community or quality of life for people who already live there
  Preserve what we've got and improve those things
  Don't let core go to pot
  Mini-dorms bad (UA)
  Neighborhoods being neglected by city – streets, sidewalks – quality of life issue – invest public $$ in sidewalks
  Old houses need to be repaired, preserved and protected as an asset

  Community is generally supportive of diversity & creativity – Wingspan – Evolution of small events into full-on big time must-dos

  Bullying by tea party people is appalling – need to find a means to have bi-partisan decisions
  Public dialogue – purposefully develop a citizenry
  We have to be part of the solution

  Disenfranchised Dems.
  Reasonable decisions – no knee jerk
  Important to fix other problems

  Diversity – culture – food – arts

  Improve quality of education for all citizens – zero-tolerance, anti-bullying policies especially against LGBT & youth – assume that all youth are brilliant & able to learn
  Growing intolerance of Latino community members
  Me, me, me attitude – everyone feels things are bad unless their specific niche issues are resolved.
