Theme 1. Built Environment
What do you most want to change or improve about our community/region?
  Create more mixed-use neighborhoods
  More community/neighborhood centers
  Lack of farmers markets
Fewer box stores - more local business
  Fewer strip malls
  Lack of public transportation available
  Devotion to cars and roads
  Less traffic (better street design)

Theme 2. Culture
What do you like the most about our community/region?
  Culture
  Southwest culture
  Close to border communities
  Culture
  Diversity of cultures
  Culture and ethnicities
  Hispanic culture and influence
Why is this important? How does this affect you?
We can value the Mexican and refugee cultures here
The neighborhoods may not seem so diverse, but downtown is
Lower-prices: you can afford a home
  Not a fast-paced place
  The history is unique
Sense of family is more prominent
The language - things are expressed in a different way
We are distinct (not like Phoenix, which is more corporate)
The Hispanic music, art, festivals, and food are unique and precious

Theme 3. Downtown
What do you most want to change or improve about our community/region?
  Attractions to draw people downtown
  Cohesive attractive architecture for downtown
Downtown - no reflection of culture, Hodge podge, no planning or design
Street design in the downtown area
Why is this important? How does this affect you?
The image and history of a region is judged based on the downtown
  Lacks visual appeal
  Architecture is lacking
Street car is good, but there should be more nightlife - it is limited
The pace - vibrancy is lacking
Should be community hub for families, diversity, music and the arts
  Money invested should be different
Important hub for both native and new people

Theme 4. Local Environment
What do you like the most about our community/region?
  Desert landscape - visually accessible
  Mountains
  Wildlife
  Sunsets
  Climate
  Weather
We have the best weather and 4 seasons
Why is this important? How does this affect you?
More shade - plant trees and develop shade systems
  Combine city and county parks
People aren't aware of city amenities
Good public pools would be one way to limit private pools and their water usage
We need to renovate older properties and limit new development
  Low vs. spread out
  Keep things 1-story
Don't become another San Diego or Phoenix - no 35-story condos or hillside developments
We have water issues - water is not managed as well as it should be
We have accessible wildlife because of our parks and bike paths
  I love the wildlife
  It's slower paced here
  The environment contributes to tourism
We're in a special unique place and that pride of place contributes to our quality of life
We're no Phoenix with big grass lawns - we appreciate our desert plants
Walking paths in the area are a plus
The mountains make me feel better about myself
Desert and the mountains are beautiful

Theme 5. Community
What do you like the most about our community/region?
  Long standing communities and neighborhoods
  Social connections
  Community activism
  Small' big city
  Family and friends
  Family
Why is this important? How does this affect you?
We are a transient community but many people come back
We know each other in this community
Some families are in Mexico and in the US
Quality of life depends on the support of others
Lot's of us have a long history in the area. A generational connection is important
  It's a friendly place
Local officials are accessible - council members and supervisors are not isolated
  Small city feeling
We want to retire here and have education
We're proud of our Mexican and American-Indian cultures but we have issues

Theme 6. Recreation
What do you like the most about our community/region?
  Outdoor recreation
What do you most want to change or improve about our community/region?
  Cleaner parks
  More recreational areas
  More affordable youth activities
Lack of parks in certain areas

Theme 7. Economy
What do you most want to change or improve about our community/region?
  Not enough jobs

Theme 8. Government
What do you like the most about our community/region?
  Good emergency management system
What do you most want to change or improve about our community/region?
  Latino community involvement in government
Policies to buy guns! Gun control!
Dysfunctional government - they don't relate to each other
Why is this important? How does this affect you?
Border partnerships have a lot to offer - services and information
Ajo is part of Pima County!
Our government structure is weird and often works against us
Phoenix gets a better deal with more tax dollars because most of the area is incorporated
  Grassroots brings better changes
People don't know how to be involved. Not necessarily politics, but individuals bringing ideas together to build better neighborhoods
Thoughtful dialogue leads to a better environment and plan
Community involvement is lacking - officials make decisions in a vacuum

Theme 9. Health Care
What do you most want to change or improve about our community/region?
  Kino hospital
  Lack of Trauma centers
Why is this important? How does this affect you?
Health care is connected to jobs
Lot's of low-income people without health insurance
  More health information
Tucson has to help the border community
More emergency services and more rural health care centers for long-term
We only have 1 trauma center. If we lost this, we'd have to go to Phoenix and we'd be in real trouble (especially in the event of a disaster)
Cheaper to go to Mexico for prescriptions, due to costs

Theme 10. Education
What do you most want to change or improve about our community/region?
Improve the school system (public, private, and universities)
