What do you like the most about our community/region?
I like Mt. Lemmon and the city of Tucson
All museums. A mountain, canyons, and historical sites
I like the parks and the traditions
The sun sets, mountains, zoo, etc.
What do you most want to change or improve about our community/region?
  More housing
No freeway or highway to the East side, more parks

Theme 2. Security
What do you most want to change or improve about our community/region?
  The immigration laws
I would like to change the immigration laws and the racism
For the community to come together in helping law enforcement with the violence around our neighborhoods. To have a safer environment for our children

Theme 3. Education and Children
What do you like the most about our community/region?
  I like the elementary school,
They try to focus on children and education
What do you most want to change or improve about our community/region?
  Promote neighborhood associations
I wish that there wouldn't be delinquency
There should be equal job and education opportunities for all
That people would respect the houses and the school
  More education/awareness
Why is this important? How does this affect you?
Tucson has a lot of beautiful things - mountains, historical sites, all the richness - but it's because of the community we have, our families that we want good things to look at
Mar 2 - Program about Aztec culture
Through our garden project we reach out beyond ourselves to help others (Casa Maria soup kitchen uses what we grow), and we talk about issues of immigration, because for children to learn they need to be safe (stress and resulting cortisoids prevent learning)
In our garden project here, we are making high quality and nutritious fruit and vegetables accessible to families
This "Hopes and Dreams" room has organized a support and protection network this year
Part of being a part of this PACE classroom is that being respectful and participatory is key. It's more than a prerequisite, it's about democracy -- if we want democracy it requires participation -- the polls and voting are the least important, it's about the daily actions
For all the people that you've [IGT] come into contact with -- I hope that they take action, I hope they begin to see things in a different way
In gatherings these we see what's happening
Todo vamos en el mismo camino, tenemos las mismas necesidades (We all walk along the same path, we all have the same needs)
By participating, we organize and take action
We get well-informed in this school, more so than in others
Be more involved and know more about other cultures (like Aztec cultures)
We think interconnectedly - it's how we are, part of our culture
Open hearts that can hear something new and different - this makes for a true richness
I feel fortunate to be part of this community
  Be positive with others
  Be mentors to others
  Tangible actions on S-list
  Clarify how 911 works
Assume responsibility and participate - take action, it's the basis of Democracy
Teach your children responsibility and compassion, and live them as an example to others
Neighbors should stick up for each other
Intervene when witnessing improper actions: we need to police each other, learn to come forth no matter the situation -- get involved, assume responsibility, and teach children to take responsibility for their actions, point out when actions are wrong
A generation ago there used to be neighborhood associations in southern Tucson
  Police - community based policing
Most people don't get involved when a harm/injustice is perpetrated -- even when a child is being abused, people are afraid to speak up
I don't want to be scared, I want to be able to report things to authorities
In 2040 I want Tucson to have less laws and restrictions, so that Mexicans who come here to do their shopping aren't harassed
Less legislation, more liberty of action
We should talk to our children more, explain, teach and just be there for them
We want the best for our children
Changes for the benefit of young people
The people in the community share their cultural knowledge
It's about our humanity, about justice, because that's what we need just to be human
SB1070 is about getting rid of an entire people
Assure that the laws are enacted that reflect values: SB1070
Parent and home involvement create an attitude that creates a healthy community
  Education/children

Theme 4. Community and Families
What do you like the most about our community/region?
I like the fact that parents can get involved in schools and contribute to their children's education. But some parents need to be made aware of this opportunity
Acceptance of multi-culturalism. A big town with a small town feel, friendly people
The community is very calm, and the people are united
  Family
  Three cultures
There are very united people that will help each other
What do you most want to change or improve about our community/region?
  Racism
  Barriers between people
More help for children that are having a hard time in school
Getting all communities to come together in (North, South, East, West) Tucson
I like that Tucson has a diversity of cultures
