4100s of Hiking trails only 15 to 60 minutes from my front door

67.5 months of great recreational opportunities
7A city that reflectsdiverse cultural and eductional choices offers a smorgasbord of learning, enlightenment, and enjoyment. A city with nearby open spaces and hiking trails offers and connection with the natural world that revitalizes our spirits and keeps the city crush in perspective.
8A community that values bicycle riding supports health, recreation, and cleaner transportation.
9A lot of people do things outdoors, people are active
10A mountain could be turned into an urban outdoor enthusiast paradise. Close the road at the base to stop the illegal activities that continue in the parking lots (do this even if you don't like the rest of the ideas...I'm sick of how dangerous that parking lot is). Create a trail system for different skilled riders. Create lighted mountain bike terrain park. Have street luge/longboard skateboarding on sections of the road. Do something awesome with the hole (maybe a BMX/Skateboard park or the velodrome). Heck put a chair lift from the base to the top...this would allow everyone to enjoy the views w/o allowing it to be trashed like it continues to be.

Although I still work a couple of part-time positions to supplement my income until I qualify for Social Security. 115Because they teach us how to respect our desert habitat, where we can live, hike, and respect the animals who live here as well
116Because we like to fish
117Before moving here, I would often walk for exercise at local parks. In Tucson, I don't feel safe doing this by myself, and the parks are not very beautiful or serene.

219Does anyone go to the Santa Cruz River 'Park'? It is so desolate. I rarely see walkers or bikers there. When we get big rains in the summer, people come out in droves to the river beds that have significant water in them. San Antonio made the River Walk with a canal system. Indianapolis recently did, too. We can get some of those intelligent, energetic, creative people to come up with a way to do that here with reclaimed water...tourists, restaurants, recreation and other activities that make money and provide quality of life follow water.
220Don't destroy natural beauty by allowing building up to forest line
221Don't have to travel hours to hike, picnic on the mountains, inhale the desert aroma after a rain. It isn't all concrete and steel.
222Don't want to have to drive for miles to get to shaded parks accessible

291Form the adoption of the Sonoran Conservation Plan, a landmark in environmental planning to the vast network of hiking trails, the County and the various jurisdictions within it, prioritize connectivity, providing ample opportunities for hiking and outdoor activities. 362Healthy lifestyle
363Healthy living
364Healthy recreation
365Here in Oro Valley, there is no senior center, few public tennis courts, no public golf course that I know of, dearth of parks. We shouldn't rely on the private sector to provide these things, as many people cannot afford the fees and memberships that are required.
366Here on the eastside of town, I can load up my dogs and find an area to walk in with mountain views, warbling birds and a host of desert critters. The cares and woes fall away and my spirit is refreshed daily by these experiences. Please do not let the doubling of population rob us of these natural resources.

401How beautiful the landscape and the great hiking trails.
402How much people like being outdoors
403Hunting friendly
404I am (and my family is) a physically active person and love sports. Our climate supports that and our tie to UA Athletics is stong in many sports (basketball, football, softball, swimming and diving, golf, etc.)
405I am a Tucson Native, been all over the US..No place else has the same setting..the ease to be in the outdoors, away from the hustle and bustle of work..
406I am a desert rat and love the warm, hot weather. I enjoy outdoor sports and can participate year round. Winter sports are only a 4 hour drive away.
407I am a runner and there isn't really good places to run long distance other than river road
408I am a triathlete and I can train virtually all year long with top athletes, coaches and facilities.
409I am a vegetation ecologist and when I graduated from college I moved here specifically because I like the natural plants that grow here. I think it is critical to preserve Tucson's unique sense of place thorugh landscaping with native plants and preservation of natural open space.
410I am a very active person and having different options to enjoy the outdoors is important to me
411I am active and enjoy the outdoors. I like to run, bike and golf.
412I am an active hiker and trails advocate. As a long-time resident, I see the need to preserve threatened recreation areas, and provide more nonmotorized recreation opportunities nearby as our population threatens to overuse existing ones.
413I am an active person that likes to engage in nature and the outdoors. I bike, hike, run, and kayak. So my surroundings in very important.
414I am an educator who practices yoga, and I believe that both of these practices: teaching and yoga, are important in the world. Tucson has two amazing examples of positive places for this: Yoga Oasis and Second Street Children's School.
415I am an outdoor fanatic, whether I am landscaping, biking or taking a walk, the weather in Tucson is wonderful.
416I am an outdoors person and enjoy the access to the catalina mountains, the desert and the healthy lifestyle.
417I am outside a great deal.
418I am so much healthier here. I feel good here, my family also. We are able to take advantage of the natural beauty and opportunities for outdoor activities.
419I am very pleased thta the County is addressing open space. I could not believe when Catalina State Park was first concieved; it was in the middle of no where. Now it is surrounded by housing and business. This for thinking is what I love
420I appreciate Tucson's dark sky initiative, desert conservation plan, bright starts, multitude of hiking trails and outdoor activities in the Catalina mountains.
421I appreciate the ability to interact with this amazing landscape and environment. The ability to be in one of the best locations for an astronomy buff is amazing as well.
422I appreciate the beautifully diversity of our landscape
423I appreciate the closeness to the mountains, lakes, and reachable distance to California and the ocean. I am a native Arizonan from Phoenix with family members throughout Arizona and California. The tennis, hiking, biking and walking weather is ideal for me!
424I backpack, hike, swim, bike, etc.
425I came from NYC and wanted to feel as though I knew my neighbors, and that they knew me. Tucson does that. It also has arts, culture, great outdoor activities, and is close enough to a large metropolis to drive there for a day trip.

436I can get outside and hike, bike ride or work on projects most of the time with little concern about the weather.
437I can go from downtown Tucson to the middle of pristine desert in 10 minutes for hiking, biking, and wildlife watching.
438I can go outside and do something
439I can have an outdoor garden, go for a hike, ride a bike, walk or run with family or friends, swim outdoors, and not deal with many environmental disasters common to other parts of the country.
440I can relax and enjoy the evenning after work in the patio
441I come from the midwest, where the weather during the winter months is unpleasant. it is nice to be able to do things outside year-round.
442I derive much of my sanity and personal pleasure from hiking, camping, backpacking, cycling, etc. and Tucson's environmental and geographical diversity is wonderful for fulfilling all those activities.
443I dislike Phoenix area by contrast -BIG city with too much paving, minimal views, minimal open areas, minimal nature sightings in neighborhoods and when playing golf, etc.
444I do not like cold or snow and I love gardening and hiking and sitting on my back patio all year.
445I do not like snow and contstand overcast skies, love the mountains and open vistas and hiking trails available so much of the year
446I don't have a huge amount of free time, so when I get a chance to do something for myself, I like to make the most of it. Tucson is loaded with great options that are affordable even on my tiny salary. From hiking in the mountains to checking out great restaurants to catching a movie at the Loft, it's hard to imagine being bored here. And with Flagstaff, the Grand Canyon and San Diego within driving distance, it's easy to get away for a few days to do something amazing without breaking the bank.
447I don't like being forced to share walls, live close to people. I like my privacy and the feeling of open spaces
448I don't likew the cold, and the weather allows me to exercise outdoors for most of the year.
449I enjoy a number of different things to do - theater, concerts, wildlife, hiking, sports, museums - and Tucson has everything a person could ever want and it's reason number 2 I moved.
450I enjoy activities like hiking, biking, backpacking and tucson is a mecca

463I enjoy golf, and in most places, thats's not possible during the winter and early spring. There are unlimited outdoor activities here year-round.
464I enjoy hiking and biking on the trails in the Tucson mountains, Catalina mountains, and Rincon mountains. Keeping a variety of trails open to mountain biking is important to me since I use these trails a lot. We also enjoy bringing our dogs to trails that are open to them to allow them to appreciate the trails as well.
465I enjoy hiking and camping. Tucson is a good place for this.

480I enjoy spending time outdoors - birdwatching, hiking, enjoying a walk
481I enjoy spending time outside on the hill slopes of the mountains surrounding the city.
482I enjoy spending time outside; outdoor activities
483I enjoy the ability to be able to easily get out of town and enjoy the sonoran desert. specifically I enjoy virtually all outdoor activities. cycling, hiking ,golf, hunting, fishing. just being outside. I like our climate, most of the time, I enjoy both inside and outside living space within our home and office. our climate is ideal for indoor / outdoor living

495I enjoy the wide expanses of open land around Tucson and the open space so close to my home in Oro Valley and even the center of town.
496I enjoy the year around weather for outdoors activities such as golf
497I feel comfortable in spacious geographic environments.
498I feel that for a city of tucson's size should have more positive public spaces and more pedestrian-oriented areas. I personally feel that these types of spaces are better for the community and overall health.
499I feel that the Sonoran desert is a very special place, both ecologically and culturally. My husband and I spend most of our free time outdoors biking, hiking, and spotting wildlife. We are in the Big Brother/Sister program, and our 'little brother' also loves exploring areas no one in his family has ever seen (Ironwood Nat. Mon, Fantasy Island, Mt Lemmon, Sweetwater Preserve, Sabino Canyon...)
500I feel the mountains surrounding Tucson represent stability and strength for our city. It's a feeling that God is watching over our city and, like the mountains, cannot be moved. I like the beauty of the mountains, especially when they are covered with snow after a snowfall. When I walk outside or drive down the road, I often look to the north and gaze upon the beauty of our largest mountains.
501I find that outdoor activities are vital to my life. However, I am so busy I cannot do anything close to what I would like to. The views, mountains, and desert around Tucson remind me that its all right there in my back yard waiting.
502I find the Tucson environment and weather (most of the time) very comfortable and it is easy to be outdoors.
503I find the desert and mountains to be beautiful. I like to enjoy nature outside of an urban environment.
504I find the summers hot, but the nights cool and you can do almost anything year-round just depending on the time of day. bright sunlight is unique here and in the West.
505I fish Rose Canyon Lake frequently.
506I get to exercise year round outside.
507I golf, hike, garden and love to spend time on our porch--all possible b/c of year-round (except last week) good weather.
508I grew up in Chicago, where the outdoors was off-limits for large portions of the year due to poor weather. I love being able to be active almost every day of the year, and Tucson's lower pollution rate (when compared to Phoenix) makes this possible.
509I grew up in a rural area and I still look to the plants and animals, the sky and weather to shape my day. I love seeing plants, lizards, birds, and other natural entities as I go about my day. I work downtown and enjoy the park in front of city hall, the trees that are planted along the sidewalks. Knowing that our community values open space and living with then environment makes me feel good.
510I hate sitting all day; driving to schools and work. I want more activity in my life
511I hate winter. I love being outdoors.
512I have a lot of good memories hiking in all the surrounding mountains.
513I have always been an outdoors person, and it is great to have open, natural space on the periphery of the urban areas visible from virtually anywhere in town as well as seeing threads of natural environment still existing in town. There are many challenges as well as opportunities to improving the Tucson area's environment and quality of life but policies are gradually changing and people are taking action voluntarily toward this goal.
514I have always loved nature and valued unbuilt landscapes -- what we used to call 'the country' where I grew up. I like knowing that there are still some wild places nearby that still have mountain lions, bighorn sheep (much less of those), bears, and many other animals and plants that require wildlands. And I like to be able to get to those wildlands for hiking and camping as easily as I can here -- it takes me less than an hour to drive to Saguaro National Park West or East or to the Catalinas or Rincons.
515I have always loved the outdoors and the natural beauty. I am an artist/photographer and get out there as often as the rest of my life lets me. It brings peace and personal rejuvenation to me My Favorite places: Arizona Sonora Desert Museum, Tucson Botanical Gardens, Tohono Chul Park, Arthur Pack Regional Park (I hope we can preserve pockets of natural desert like the SW side of this!), Catalina State Park, Sabino Canyon, Mt. Lemmon, Saguaro National Park E and W, San Xavier Mission, Madera Canyon, Birding Areas in SE AZ.
516I have children and a dog and we like to go for walks and bike rides to parks
517I have played golf since I was young. I like how many courses Tucson has and I love the public golf courses that the town supports. I try to play at least twice per month.
518I have spent the better part of the last fifty years of my life drinking in the wonders of nature, mountaineering, hiking and bathing myself in the natural world, and consider myself a citizen of the Universe. Tucson and its environments is a good place to satisfy this diet. is a good place to
519I hike often - I live under Pusch Peak and the view inspires me daily. The varying landscape is a joy to see everywhere
520I hike, photograph, enjoy all that the desert and sky islands have to offer.

526I like being able to have hiking and bicycle trails in the area I live and nearby.
527I like being able to reach amazing hiking and outdoor activities within half an hour of my house
528I like being able to release my stress in the wilderness. Places like Sabino Canyon, Mt. Lemmon, and Madera Canyon are great places to let your mind be at ease.
529I like being able to walk outside in sunshine and do fun activities outside
530I like being out doors, being warm, walking in beautiful surroundings, being near the mountains.
531I like being out doors.
532I like being outdoors and exercise is important to me. I like activities such as biking and hiking.
533I like being outside. I like walking and biking and doing just about anything outside, it is so nice to do that here and so easy. Even in the summer when others are in I'm often out, it can be glorious in that regard. My bungalow is 400 square feet with no AC but the lot is almost 200 feet long and 60 feet wide with lots of space outside to garden and do woodworking projects, compost and raise worms to eat my garbage. These things would be a lot less enjoyable in Seattle!
534I like golf and weather
535I like having specific spots that are not fully developed.
536I like hiking and backpacking in areas that feel remote, despite their proximity to town.
537I like hiking and having quick access to mountains and desert
538I like knowing that museums, parks, shopping is comparable to big city shopping, but the small town feeling is important, too.
539I like living in a place that has lots of open space, and when I moved to Tucson in 1976, that was a major factor in my decision to buy a home and start a business here... I also like the town's 'laid-back' feel.
540I like living outdoors
541I like nature and walk with my dogs
542I like outdoor sports and activities
543I like outdoors activities
544I like running and doing outdoor activities.
545I like spending time hiking, birding, mountain biking, etc.
546I like that I am recognized in my grocery store and credit union, that my gym, restaurants, out-door events are friendly and close. I love that I can go to first class theater productions of many sorts, both local and national tours. I appreciate that we are not (yet) paved over and getting significantly hotter due to loss of open spaces.
547I like that I can ride my bike in the middle of town and see horses, coyotes, javalinas and rabbits. I literally live in middle of the city and love that there are dirt roads...I feel like I'm out in the country.
548I like that Tucson attracts people who like to work out.
549I like that Tucson is relatively friendly towards bikers and walkers, at least in the area where I live (Central Tucson). I'm an avid biker, both as a means of transport and recreation, and I believe more bikes on the road are good for the community--good for our environment and for our health.
550I like that a variety of hiking and camping options are within driving distance. Being able to escape the heat on Mt. Lemmon during the summer is nice.
551I like that when I am in the city I can look in any direction and see a beautiful mountain range. I am also pround of the fact that the County (and other local jurisdications) has made perserving open space a priority and I hope that never changes.
552I like the balance between open space/outdoor activity and the big city atmosphere/amenities
553I like the bike lanes and smooth pavement for recreation and commuting. I love Mt Lemon and the foothills for a variety. The single track mt. biking and hiking trails are incredible. It is n incredible community to bike in. It has room to improve and seems to do so daily. I see a huge economic impact from the known of El tour down to the unseen bike tourists.
554I like the flexibility of being able to participate in indoor and outdoor activities with very little interruption by the weather.
555I like the lifestyle and scenery of the Southwestern states, the big sky, wonderful mountains, historical Indian influence and land. I enjoy camping, hunting, skiing, biking, and having my grandchildren raised more in nature.

557I like the mountains, the desert and the outdoor opportunities they offer
558I like the options when it comes to outdoor activities.
559I like the out doors
560I like the outdoor activities, the fresh air and the nice climate
561I like the outdoors, enjoy hiking, birdwatching, spotting wildlife, enoying the quiet. I like the darkness of the night sky and the blue of the day.
562I like the outdoors...
563I like the proximity to natural open space areas that, for an urban area this size, aren't very crowded
564I like the sense of expansiveness I get from the desert. It's clean, clear, wide open.
565I like to Hike
566I like to access hiking in canyons without having to drive too far
567I like to be active outdoors.
568I like to be outdoors
569I like to be outdoors exercising, enjoying the natural landscape and weather.
570I like to be outdoors frequently, it is easy to get around
571I like to be outdoors year-round
572I like to be outside, and Tucson is a perfect home base if that is a personal interest. I need not travel far to get to several amazing outdoor places. I especially like to hike. It's also not so far to go to the beach in Mexico.
573I like to be outside.
574I like to bike, hike, etc and Tucson has a good network of hiking trails and bike lanes to support this activity
575I like to bike, run, swim, hike, and there is a ton of people in Tucson I can do this with
576I like to do outdoor activities and there are many areas within an hour to explore

578I like to do things outside
579I like to enjoy open space and other significant natural features
580I like to exercise outdoors I'd like to see more kids out being active and not having to fear for their safety
581I like to exercise outdoors and our great weather makes that possible year round.
582I like to feel comfortable when I am out and about the community, the people here say hi in passing, strike up conversations, are concerned with their communities, they get involved and are outdoor healthy people for the most part
583I like to get exercise this way; I prefer getting my exercise in the open air rather than in a gym
584I like to get outside whenever possible. I like to walk, hike and be in natural surroundings. I like the desert.
585I like to go hiking and bird watching (birding).
586I like to golf and the region provides opportunites to do so. Marana provides great opportunites for hiking and walking.
587I like to hike and be close to nature without driving miles to get there.
588I like to hike and be in nature but I also appreciate the amenities of an urban area.
589I like to hike and be in nature. It soothes my soul.

597I like to hike. There are some great hikes in the area
598I like to putter in the garden year-round
599I like to ride my bike (for commuting and exercise) and feel safe while doing so.
600I like to spend as much time as possible outside and to garden. I live in our backyard whenever the weather permits and I am not at work.
601I like to stay active. In the summer you can escape the heat by going to the mountains and still be able to exercise outdoors. In the winter, there are hiking/biking/walking trails all over town.
602I like to walk at the park and look over and see the mountains - the reason I like clear air.
603I like very much to take in the sun, to walk or sit and enjoy a cup of coffe outdoors
604I likt ot spend time outdoors, and I want that value instilled in my children
605I live just west of downtown in the area most affected by the planned revitalization. So far, there is a wall and a few up-scale homes that no-one in the neighborhood could ever afford to purchase. There are so many wonderful things that could be happening: downtown as an all pedestrian area with restaurants, theater, music, outlets for traditional native crafts, the Stewart Boot Company (or similar), good art galleries (like Etherton), and trams to connect to all of it plus the Tucson Museum of Art and surrounding historic sites. 'A' Mtn. could be cleaned up and made into a safe place for walking, biking, and site seeing from trams for tourists, families, others who congregate - but no cars and no alcohol or drugs. The land west of the river should not just be another housing development. We need walkways, horse trails, an interactive science center, movie theaters, coffee shop, a Trader Joe's or Sunflower, a pool, a gym, boutique hotel, amenities that appeal to the neighborhood and to tourists alike. I personally resent the increase in my property taxes that was meant to reflect the higher values that Rio Nueve was going to create. I don't want lower taxes, I want Rio Nuevo!!
606I live near the Rillito river walk which is a quiet place to walk, but also a wonderful community of people who we see regularly.
607I lived in Phoenix where the air was becoming increasingly full of nasty particulates. I like to be out of doors and breathe clean air. You can't put a price on it. It's more valuable than a pot of gold.
608I love being able to drive up any street and see a mountain backdrop. I never take for granted being able to drive or bike just a few minutes and reach beautiful desert, riparian canyons, and getaway mountains. I enjoy being able to hike year-round.
609I love being able to see 4 mountain ranges from in town. And I love that in 15 minutes you can be out of town and hiking in the desert with no city noise and only saguaros and other desert plants around you.
610I love being active all year round, and the weather and beautiful hiking in the area make it an amazing place to spend every season except summer!
611I love being outdoors and there are plenty of places to go and numerous types of activities available. (I especially enjoy hiking and bicycling). The warm dry climate is beautiful, the air is generally excellent, and the desert mountains are a source of spiritual renewal for me.
612I love being outdoors--for exercise, for relaxing, for family get-togethers--and Tucson has tons of wilderness/semi-wilderness spots that are easy to get to.
613I love being outdoors. The weather helps allow that and the good hiking makes it fun.
614I love being outside
615I love cycling and running and Tucson's weather makes it easy to do this year-round.
616I love feeling the crisp clean air in the morning and the walks are amazing and the sunrise is so beautiful
617I love going hiking around different trails here.
618I love hiking and being out of the city.
619I love living close to hiking trails and walking in the desert. I think we live in a unique landscape and we should protect it.
620I love looking at the mountains, taking walks in the desert, going up into the mountains.
621I love national parks and am happy to be near a couple of them. The diversity from the desert to the mountains makes it a fun place to explore
622I love natural open spaces, still living close to Tucson
623I love nature and hiking
624I love outdoor activities
625I love seeing the mountains and the variety/levels of hiking trails. I appreciate that they're clear of homes.
626I love spending time outdoors and hiking in Sabino Canyon and Mt Lemmon.
627I love tennis, but courts are not well maintained, specifically Pima West
628I love that my family can spend as much time outdoors - swimming, biking, hiking. We can go to Sabino Canyon to swim and hike, bike at Sahuaro National Park and drive up Mt. Lemmon for snow and cool air.
629I love that we can do things outside all year round. Yes, it gets hot in the summer, but you get used to it.
630I love that we can spend more time outdoors all year round as opposed to trying to stay warm in a house most of the year!
631I love that you can go from a cool, green climate, to a saguaro adorned classic desert landscape to an alpine camp site in 30 minutes driving from Speedway and Tanque Verde Loop to Mount Lemmon. That is a Tucson marvel.
632I love the Rillito parkway, and cant wait until the Arcadia parkway is underway. We need more of these areas.
633I love the Sonoran Desert and am glad there are natural areas that are preserved from development. The AZ-Sonora Desert Museum, Tohono Chul, and the Tucson Botanical Gardens are great. I love the hiking!
634I love the Sonoran desert - from the lower Coloradan scrub to the saguaro/ironwood forests to the multiple ecotomes available in the Sky Islands such as along the Mt Lemon highway, Madera canyon, Sabino canyon, etc.
635I love the beauty and ecological diversity represented in the Sonoran desert. Being able to see wild spaces within the city and county boundaries in natural parks, green spaces and wildlife corridors makes the Tucson area and region feel a part of the Sonoran desert rather than an intrusion upon it.
636I love the chance to spend time with friends outside, excercising and taking in sweeping panoramic vistas
637I love the desert. I enjoy the hot summers and the cold winters. I love the open space that the desert affords.
638I love the ease with which it is easy to get to the WILD outdoors here, for all levels of fitness. Sabino Canyon is easy, as are some trails in Saguaro National Monument, but the Finger Rock trail and others are harder. PRESERVE THE DESERT, and the approaches to places like Sabino Canyon.
639I love the general landscape and like to look at the mountains
640I love the landscape and the mountains around us
641I love the mountains and desert, like to hike and bike in the environs
642I love the mountains and hiking trails on the outskirts of Tucson. These trails enable me and my family to stay connected to the earth while staying physically active and emotionally balanced.
643I love the outdoors and being outside it important to me
644I love the outdoors and nature. To live in a city of this size and have it all so accessible and close to us is amazing and special. I seriously wouldn't live here if they weren't here. Seriously!
645I love the outdoors, and outdoor activity, and that's what prompted me to settle in Tucson 40 years ago.
646I love the outdoors, hiking, biking and being and for 7.5 months of the year, Tucson offers a lot of opportunities and diversity to enjoy
647I love the outdoors. Hiking around Tucson is as good as it gets.
648I love the outdoors. It is so easy to go camping and hiking from Tucson.
649I love the views of the mountains, access to the out of doors, the clilmate and the desert vegetation.
650I love the wide open spaces, the views of the mountains, and the diversity of the wildlife of the desert.
651I love to be outdoors
652I love to be outdoors, not cooped up in a house during the winter months. Diversity of the landscape. Mountains, desert, etc.
653I love to be outside hiking.
654I love to be outside, and the infinite variety of places to go here is awesome.
655I love to get out and hike whenever I can and I love to look at the mountains and feel the closeness to nature
656I love to go hiking, and feel Tucson is a great location for anyone who likes the outdoors.
657I love to go out and enjoy a restaurant with good food and drink, outdoors when not too hot...and enjoy the diversity of restaurants available......from cheap holes in the wall to high end expensive dining.
658I love to hike and get out into nature. I feel more calm and at peace when I am hiking. Having nearby trails that are easily accessible is important to me.
659I love to hike in all the mountain ranges and take walks around the area. Also enjoy the history
660I love to hike in the mountains and the various parks surrounding Tucson.
661I love to mountain bike and be outdoors. You can do that year-round here, without frost-bite. In the summer, you can visit Mt. Lemmon to get out of the heat.
662I love to play soccer and go hiking, and being able to do this year round rather than just for 6 or 7 months is really great.
663I love to ride my horse, especially out on trails
664I love to run, swim, play soccer & softball. It's important to have people to do those things with & friends to support me. The weather here doesn't hurt either :)
665I love to spend free time outside- enjoying fresh air, sunshine and exercise
666I love to spend time outside and the weather allows for that most of the year
667I love to walk for exercise.
668I love to walk in the desert and mountains.
669I love walking, hiking and biking in the desert. It is so beautiful and I would love to keep it pristine.
670I love wildlife. Wildlife needs habitat and since we develop it in chunks it needs viable paths among remaining pieces the are free of domestic cats, grazing cattle, paved roads.
671I moved out here because I hate the cold and love the mountain views and hiking opportunities.
672I moved to Tucson for the weather and the great outdoors
673I need mountains. The climate is excellent with many superb months for outdoor living every year. Even early mornings in summer are good outdoor weather.
674I need open space, especially natural areas to revive me, too allow me to tackle the stresses of life. I particularly love the Sonoran Desert.
675I need the sense of openness that the desert and mountains provide.
676I need to spend lots of time outdoors and Tucson has so much in the way of urban trails, hiking opportunities, bike paths, etc. I love all the events held regularly, particularly 'Tucson Meet Yourself' and 'Second Saturday.' I walk up Tumamoc hill regularly too.
677I own horses and it is good to see so many trails and other horses around
678I play golf
679I prefer to live in an environment where you can live both in and out of doors most of the year and do not have to rely on artificial climate control (again, with the exception of the summer heat)
680I really enjoy being outdoors and with the climate you can be all year
681I really injoy the activities you can do year round.
682I remember Tucson in 1973. I remember perimeters being Wilmot to the east; Orange Grove to the north. Traffic was virtually non-existent. There was lots of open space, co-hesiveness to neighborhoods. Growth destroys intimacy...let's limit growth!
683I see Tucson as a city with a lot going for it and even more possiblity in the future. The outdoors are here, The culture is here and could use more work in bringing that culture to sight, third, I see the possibility for a development in which culture, natural resources and overall well-being are advanced equally.
684I spend as much time outdoors as possible hiking, biking, eating, etc. After living in Arizona for 35 years, I can't imagine spending months at a time without that warm sunshine on my shoulders 360 days a year.
685I spend much time outdoors
686I spend six months here to enjoy the mountains, biking, and golf. I also enjoy the restaurants and cultural events.
687I take advantage of it, hiking, camping, sightseeing, etc.
688I think it is important to have places for people to hike, be free, and preserve animal habitats
689I think it is important to have ways to unwind, both in the great outdoors and via cultural events/experiences. Tucson offers both types of recreation.
690I think it's important to have natural space but there are too many bare areas. Things are spread out and it's hard to get what I need
691I think its important for our children to grow up in a place where they can enjoy the outdoor recreational opportunities (hiking, biking, camping, swimming) that our community has to offer
692I think this has created sprawl. More multiuse areas, creative use of historic buildings, and live/work space could add more vibrancy to historic parts of town in the after hours. Allow infill and perhaps more multistory buildings instead of having homes creep up our mountains. Although, outside of downtown, I do like the wide streets views of the mountains.
693I think we should limit water useage by not allowing certain trees & shrubs(and GRASS!) We should stay with indiginous plantings. Golf courses must only use reclaimed, non-potable water.
694I think we should preserve some desert spots for people to be able to go to for recreational purposes
695I thoroughly enjoy being outside and I know that it is important that everyone has access to fresh air in a safe place. Tucson is woefully deficient in park land. Connecting the linear parks along all our waterways is a big step.
696I used to love all the open space, desert and horses. We have been losing that over the years. Was one of our strongest features.
697I value geographic beauty in my everyday life and enjoy outdoor recreation (hiking, etc.)
698I walk in it everyday. It's amazing.
699I want a workout room
700I want to be outside a lot
701I want to ensure that there will be green space in the future and to preserve water and land resources
702I want to make Tucson my permanent home; however, the ugly housing tracts that are approved, the unrestrained growth, the 'get it while the getting is good' mentality of taxing new housing starts contribute to a community that fundamentally lacks beauty and open spaces-two of the factors that attracted people to the region in the first place.
703I wish I lived in a neighborhood with sidewalks and bike paths (not just lanes on the busy street) so I could take advantage of the gorgeous weather 9 mos of the year and walk or bike with my family to do my errands and be out in my community safely and healthfully.
704I work outdoors sometimes, and I love the temperatures.
705I would like to feel safe camping or hiking in my own country, but I do not, if I am south of Tucson.
706I would like to see more parks developed to give better access to recreation for all.
707I would like to see more splash pads in the North, Northwest part of Tucson
708I'm a healthy, active outdoor person and the natural local beauty is an easy integral part of life here.
709I'm a huge U of A sports fan, and feel it's the strongest civic bond Tucson has, of any kind. Where else to you see such a blend of ages, ethnicities, religions, political persuasions, socioeconomic statuses, etc. in one venue? Beyond sports, the U of A campus is a central gem in this city, with beautiful green open spaces, consistent red brick buildings, and a climate that values learning and research.
710I'm a hunter and a general gun enthusiast. The right to carry a firearm is an important right that Arizona has a strong commitment to upholding.
711I'm a outdoor person and a jock!
712I'm an environmental scientist and outdoor enthusiast; I like to be able to hike, camp, and enjoy the outdoors close to home.
713I'm an outdoor person who enjoys outdoor activities - hiking, camping, fishing, biking, etc.
714I'm an outdoor person; moderate all year round
715I'm an outdoors person i.e. it is much better to be outdoors in a beautiful area.
716I'm delighted by personal encounters with coyotes, javelina, roadrunners, and rabbits. I love learning about native plants and how to incorporate them in my landscaping. You can be outdoors just about anytime of the year.
717I'm from a small, New England town so it's nice to get out of the city and experience rural areas.
718I'm motivated by and attracted to nature. Conservation of open spaces/parks should be a priority.
719I'm outside with my dogs every day, and I enjoy hiking.
720I've gotten into Triathlons, running groups, and hiking groups in Tucson that I have great friends and great experiences from enjoying. The weather and the restaurants would be 4th and 5th on my list.
721I've lived in overcrowded cities back east where all you can see of the sky was a narrow strip above the canyons of buildings or through overgrown, cramped streets and highways. The open sky really feels like there's room to move and breathe. The mountains also help to ground the city and give a sense of place.
722If one is not into the outdoors, it is some what limiting as to activities
723If we can't get a freeway system, let's add a light rail system. I would like to be more sustainable and not drive often, but I can't depend on the Sun Tran. It would be great if I could take a light rail train to downtown on the weekends, or take the train to the mall, or even to some of the hiking spots in the Catalinas.
724If you know where to find people, there's a lot going on; lots of activities. You feel like you are part of the greater whole/ bicycling, writer, tennis
725If you like to do things out of doors (I do), then few places can match Tucson.
726In Summer - you can look forward to Tubing the Salt river or hanging out at Patagonia Lake (In high school, we would ditch and go to Sabino Canyon) In the fall - you can quad in Sonoita along miles of mountain tops, In winter - Mt. Lemmon has amazing views - Greer, AZ offers so much opportunity if you fish the Black River....
727In Tucson we have all 4 regions of mountains very close to us - usually within 30 minutes maximum drive time to be IN the mountain regions enjoying picnic areas and hiking trails or tram rides or sunset lookouts. You are never far from an outdoor experience!
728In all the local parks I've visited, all have been well laid out, clean and provide what I feel to be a safe place for me to exercise outdoors. The people I encounter also add to the experience.
729Includes the landscape, mountains, access to the out of doors, hiking, walking etc.
730Increase animal friendly areas
731Increase free recreational programs for youth
732Increase participation of youth in Park and Rec ativities
733Increase recreational opportunities
734Increase water conservation and native edible green space
735Inexpensive recreation
736Is the ability to enjoy sunshine and be outdoors, much of the year.
737It allows for outdoor activities
738It allows me the opportunity to do those things that I find important, such as sports, riding my motorcycle and enjoying the outdoors.
739It allows me to be outside throughout the year
740It allows me to enjoy outdoor activities
741It allows me to get out of the city and into nature, hiking the trails, and enjoying beautiful scenery.
742It allows us to live outdoor more
743It allows you to participate in far more outside activities that other geographic locations
744It builds community to get people out
745It creates an opportunity for both visual beauty and recreation.
746It gives me a feeling of space and thus of my individual possibilities and being.
747It gives me the ability to stay in shape while enjoying the weather and the scenery
748It has open spaces, large old neighborhoods and parks throughout the city. It is not Phoenix.
749It has the essentials as part of the community such as museums, restaurants, outdoor activities, live music and independent/foreign film.
750It helps you to clear your head
751It is a beautiful region, the mountains are and the developing trail system are accessible.
752It is a calming environment throughout the day. It makes it great to hike and not have to travel far before you can start hiking.
753It is calming to be in the out of doors so quickly or even to just see the mountains, sky, clouds, light and shadows.
754It is destroying the aesthetics of our area, the habitat of the animals, and the areas I enjoy hiking
755It is hard to escape the heat of the summer, having more splash pads around would help.
756It is important for the overall mental and physical health for a person to exercise. I love being able to go to a public place to walk/hike or throw the football around with friends
757It is important to me to live in a community that values open space and parks.
758It is nice to be in a community that is easy to navigate and 'feels' less crowded but that offers a wide variety of educational, recreational and cultural opportunities
759It is so close to drive 20 minutes and be in the desert to go hiking
760It is such a wonderful place to enjoy throughout the year. It provides a number of different recreational activities and it's beuty and tranquility are unmatched in the immediate area. I was born and raised in Tucson and some of my fondest memories of growing up here involve camping, hiking, climbing, and playing in the snow on Mt Lemmon!!
761It is the open spaces, trail and wildlife corridors and general rural atmosphere.
762It is very easy to leave your front door and enjoy the outdoors by hiking, riding your bike, etc.
763It is very nice to see the sun and mountains and climb the mountains
764It is what makes a good work/life balance possible. It's great for finding things to do with my family (kids included).
765It lifts my mood to see the mountains and the sky and I enjoy being able to enjoy activities outside almost year-round.
766It makes me feel happy and lets me enjoy more outdoor activities all year around. I hate the cold. It is depressing.
767It must be the mountains, but there are a very large number of people who have an interest in and respect for the outdoors/environment. It is what attracted us to Tucson originally.
768It would give me and other more places to workout.
769It's a beautiful place - within minutes you can be hiking in a canyon in total seclusion. There's so much to see and do and luckily weather permits us to get outside most of the year.
770It's always nice here and it is important to me, to be outside and get fresh air and I can do that mostly everyday here
771It's beautiful, unique, not found anywhere else, peaceful especially when hiking or cyclying, and also our strongest asset as a region since it attracts visitors, residents and thus needs to be protected.
772It's disheartening when we go hiking to drive through mile after mile of just housing with no restaurants, no businesses, and no mix of things to do. I don't know what people do that live there other than drive to every possible needed destination.
773It's easier to be healthy when this value is reflected in the community. Everyone does yoga, cycles or hikes and healthy food is easily available.
774It's easy to access the outdoors with hiking trails, sports facilities, parks.
775It's funky, it's small but has a university. It has great restaurants and great outdoor living.
776It's important for me to live in proximity to unspoiled nature. I couldn't live in a place where it wasn't possible to be able to be alone in the wilderness close to where I live.
777It's important to get out into nature to remember my self spiritually and physically. I also value it as a place for other beings i.e. animals to live
778It's important to me to live in a place that is naturally beautiful and that has access to outdoor activities (e.g., hiking)
779It's more relaxing driving on side roads. It's not as 'asphalty' as the beautiful cities of Seattle and Bellevue are. There's more land and open space between the roads in Tucson.
780It's nice to go hiking and not have to drive very far
781It's possible to enjoy being outdoors much of the3 year.
782It's related to our health and it lowers are rate of obesity (the exercise and recreation opportunities)
783It's what keeps people here and we need to protect that
784Its Recreational parks and lakes
785Its beauty, its easy accessibility, and climate. A ten minute drive to a beautiful hike
786Its outdoor activities.
787Keep building parks and open spaces as the city grows
788Keep the hiking and hunting
789Kids need more activities
790Kids need something to do
791Lack of non-outdoor family recreation (for all ages)
792Lack of recreation for kids, especially in summer; pools closed and too expensive
793Land trusts preserve open space
794Landscape
795Large variety of recreational parks
796Let folks know what resources are available for recreation and how to protect those resources for the next generation.
797Life is generally easier in good weather regarding transportation and enjoying the out-of-doors.
798Lifestyle- outdoors, friendly and diverse people
799Like hiking and walking in the canyons.
800Like outdoor activities
801Like to spend time outdoors
802Like warm winters- able to get out to natual areas almost year-round
803Lived in mid west and it was flat, really missed the mountains. Openess of Tucson
804Living in this moderate climate allows an active family such as mine, the advantage of enjoying more camping, fishing, boating, and hiking. We moved from the midwest many years ago and have tripled our outdoor experiences.
805Living outdoors. Hiking, Swimming, outdoor social events.
806Local parks and recreation
807Location between the 4 sky islands is great for beauty and getting out and enjoying the locale.
808Longevity for everyone
809Lot's of outdoor opportunities
810Lots of hiking trails
811Lots of open space - horseriding/biking (close to the city) national parks close to the city (it's a tourist attraction)
812Lots of open space, room for nature, wildlife, the desert, viewscape, trails for walkers and horse-back riders to get out in the wild lands.
813Lots of outdoor activities, but maybe not enough that are organized or advertised to our tourists.

830Makes it easy to go outdoors year round.
831Makes living easier and more time to be outside
832Many choices for enjoying nature are right in and around Tucson. The mountains provide great hiking and even our dry rivers with pathways are a great stroll in the evening.
833Many cities have nice running trails through public parks. We have the rillito which is decent, but the only other option that people commonly use is running around Reid Park, which is basically the sidewalk.
834Many options for outdoor activities
835Marchi conference, Golf, Music
836Masters swim team and field hockey club for recreation, UA medical library for professional resource.
837Meet Me at Maynards run (has momentum and is growing) - drink, run/walk. It's all very grassroots and draw to downtown
838Mild weather that permits outdoor activities pretty much year round.
839Mild, not as hot as Phoenix, especially in the evenings (we cool down more), and the highs are not as hot so we can spend more months outside with our kids (hikes on weekends and sports activities during the school year).
840More active lifestyle
841More art and music public spaces
842More chances to exercise
843More conducive to exercise and transportation

882Most of my friends and I strive to live healthy and active lifestyles. One of the advantages to living in Arizona is that of good weather the majority of the year - it only makes sense to have outdoor and natural recreational opportunities available.
883Most of our days can be spent doing outside activities. We rarely have road conditions that prevent us from travel.
884Most of our leisure activities are related to the outdoors -- hiking, camping, boating, etc.
885Most of the year can enjoy outdoor activities, such as walking, hiking, jogging.
886Most of the year, it is super nice for me and my kids to be outside.

907Mountains/wilderness areas
908Moved from a large crowded city.
909Moved here from Alaska and while the summers are hot, the winters are wonderful. Proximity to good hiking and outdoor activities, even snow, make Tucson an excellent place to live, play and enjoy life.
910Mt. Lemmon, hiking trails, surrounded by mountains
911Much demand for current sports facilities
912Multiple outdoor activities and opportunities
913Musical outdoor gatherings
914My family and I are able to spend more time outdoors.
915My family loves to go hiking on Finger Rock, Pontatoc, and Sabino Canyon trails. Its a fun way to bond with each other and connect with nature.
916My love of the outdoors and the natural world
917My wife and I enjoy the outdoors. We live in midtown, but a thirty-minute drive takes us to trailheads in any of three directions from midtown. After ten minutes of hiking, we can--depending upon the trail--leave civilization behind and become immersed in solitude.
918Native plants ONLY in parks, government buildings, roadways, highways, everywhere!!
919Natural Beauty (I hike for excersise, health, and fun almost every weekend)
920Natural amenities Outdoor options
921Natural areas and parks
922Natural beauty and open space
923Natural beauty, outdoor opportunities
924Natural beauty, plenty of opportunity throughout the year for outdoor recreation
925Natural open space and gorgeous mountain backdrops
926Natural splendor and recreational opportunity
927Nature - easy walking in nice places, open space, environment
928Nature - outdoor activities
929Nature and open spaces
930Nature awareness wildlife natural parks open space
931Nature based recreation areas outside of Metro Tucson
932Nature is important to us and we recognize a need to protect and enjoy it. We spend a lot of time commenting on our beautiful mountains, sunsets and skies. We are aware that other people value our beauty. Sometime we are willing to exploit our good looks for personal gain, however. I spend a good deal of my free time hiking and enjoying nature. I would not want to live in a city where I could not go out into the wilderness.
933Nature: the mountains, the vegetation, the open spaces
934Nearby things to do for outdoor activities
935Nearness to Saguaro National Park, state parks, surrounding desert, opportunities for outdoor activities.
936Need for exercise
937Need more of them
938Need more trails where you can take dogs on a leash
939Need more trees, appropriate landscaping, etc to cool and shade right-of-ways as I bike/walk around town.
940Need shade for year round use (e.g., Brandi Fenton Park)
941Need to keep the recreational purposes and beauty
942Need to take a better advantage of outdoor lifestyle through advertisement, solar power and tourism
943Never worrying about the weather and year-round outdoor activities positively impact my quality of life.
944New environment for interaction
945Nice fall-winter-spring allows me to stay active when rest of country is cloistered indoors
946Nice hiking and biking trails throughout the city too.
947Nice to be outside, I love being outside
948Nicer roads and parks would make the city look better and more enjoyable
949No ice-skating for youth
950No matter what you want to do, it is within reach from Tucson. Arts, outdoor recreation, social events, opportunities to volunteer, and access to most anything you need.
951No matter where you live in this community/region you can tie on some shoes and take a walk; hike a canyon, trail, or the side of a mountain; cycle; run; or meet in a park to get a little exercise. Fresh produce is availabe at Farmer's Markets around town and all of the local stores offer wonderful produce as well.
952No place on earth can accomodate unlimited growth indefinitely. I want to have open spaces to enjoy. I have experienced the way developments restrict access to places I used to enjoy hiking and I find this unacceptable.
953No rain Out side activities
954No snow in the winter, can be active year round.
955Nonmotorized recreation and open space nearby
956Not enough wilderness protection
957Nothing too unpredictable about the weather here so that's great for planning outdoor activities. Rarely any weather caused travel restrictions.
958Numerous parks, preserves and other open areas to enjoy.
959OUtdoors living - mountains and open space
960On a not so bright day, one only needs to take a short drive to gates pass or saguaro west to watch the sunset, a walk under the moon on Sabino Springs; a walk on coyote traveled paths in Saguaro East or Pantano Wash, or a hike up Mount Lemon, to brighten one's day.
961One can enjoy being outdoors most of the year
962One can maintain a healthy lifestyle by walking, hiking, running, cycling, golf, tennis, soccer, and a multitude of other activities. This helps one stay fit; increases mental acuity; decreases health risks; creates social networks through activity; and proves to be just pure fun!
963One that is heavily bent to my likes - environment and landscape. So that means a system that relies on alt modes where you can enjoy the environment: specifically walkability, bicycles, and the streetcar. (must be complemented with desert landscaping, water harvesting, etc)
964Open Space/parks
965Open Spaces
966Open land with relatively intact ecosystems are important for me to spend time in. I wouldn't willingly live anywhere where this wasn't the case. The Sonoran Desert, Sky Island Mountain Ranges, and rivers like the San Pedro and Santa Cruz are truly unique and significant at a Continental scale. I do all I can and encourage others to do all they can to protect them.
967Open space
968Open space 'preserved' areas
969Open space (national park, national forest, etc.)
970Open space - parks, bikeways, washes, mountains
971Open space / concern for the environment
972Open space / w/beautiful mountain views, wildlife & dark skies
973Open space and living close to municipal services
974Open space and recreation - national, state parks, COT parks and trail systems
975Open space is important but it is not the end all for the growth of the region. There needs to be a balance between open space and growth. Open space does not generate jobs.
976Open space, desert, love the outdoors & want us to remain smaller with alot of open space besides there is not enough water to support a larger population
977Open space, trails, etc.
978Open space/Parks/Community gardens
979Open space/mountains

997Opportunities to stay active and appreciate nature
998Opportunity for outdoor activities and the weather
999Opportunity to attend music, cultural, educational, outdoor events, etc.
1000Opportunity to do things outdoors nearly every day of the year.
1001Other than the National Park stuff (which is great), there are not high quality, high volume outdoor family entertainment areas.
1002Oudoor activities
1003Our area is incredibly beautiful and the weather is perfect for being out in nature. Hiking, biking, running, swimming...
1004Our benefits
1005Our climate is wonderful. I've even become used to the hot summers. And, the desert scenery and wildlife couldn't be better. It is great to be able to spend so much of the year outside.
1006Our climate promotes getting outdoors and getting involved in all sors of activities.
1007Our environment in Tucson is unique. The mountains and the desert never fail to give me joy. The many shades of gray and green after a rain, and smell of the desert when it rains, touch me deeply inside. I grew up in Tucson, in a house off Lester and Pima, and the smell of the desert when it rains, reminds me of that simpler and safer time. The dry air of Tucson, can only be appreciated when you have to go someplace where the bath towels don't dry overnight, or mold grows around the outside of the house. Sometimes our air is so fine, on a spring night with the orange trees in bloom, that it is almost like fine wine.
1008Our family enjoys being outdoors and exploring the desert
1009Our geographic location is of great value for international trade with Mexico. We have beaches within a few hours drive, pines, skiing, breathtaking desert, hiking, bicycling. Santa Cruz, Cochise Counties offer additional amazing day trips for all who visit.
1010Our health is important and our weather makes physical activity possible year around.
1011Our mountains are beautiful and it is easy to get out of the city to hike and enjoy nature
1012Our mountains are great for hiking and other recreation. They also provide an escape from the summer heat.
1013Our natural environment is important but what about 'natural undisturbed open space' helps me? Tacking this land off the tax rolls means more taxes I pay.
1014Our proximity to mountains, open areas, other towns in southern Arizona
1015Our teens have little to do all summer except escape the heat by going to the mall. Providing healthy outdoor entertainment venues should be a huge priority for our city. Help our kids be successful by providing good quality entertainment.
1016Our weather and outdoor beauty.
1017Out door activities, Senic surrounds (I love watching the mountains throughout the day) and resources like Sabino Canyon, Catalina State Park and, of course, hiking in & around the mountains.

1095Parks
1096Parks & Outdoor Recreation
1097Parks and hiking trails with views
1098Parks and outdoor recreational areas
1099Parks and recreation
1100Parks and recreation is great, but drops off in the poor areas
1101Parks in Tucson have grass (it's expensive) place to play for kids, soccer. Grass uses water - precious resources, in Oro Valley hiking
1102Parks like the linear river parks provide places for people to get out and enjoy Tucson.
1103Parks/Recreation opportunities
1104People need to get out and enjoy the natural surroundings. It is healthy and doesn't take money.
1105Personal health - i value hiking/biking opportunities in and near urban core
1106Physical and mental health is better for pedestrians
1107Physical beauty of the desert, surrounding mountains and the fact that there is a considerable amount of publicly accessable recreation areas.
1108Physically active community
1109Physically active. Beauty. Can see the whole valley, creates mindfulness and peacefulness.
1110Plant life, environment, outdoor activities
1111Please strengthen the protections for our desert, mountains, open spaces, skyline, air, water, land.
1112Please, let's not turn into LA or Las Vegas; build on healthy, sustainable living. The thing that makes Tucson special for me is the natural beauty, the easy access to open spaces. People are important, but so are the native plants and animals that have called this basin home long before we arrived.
1113Plenty of hiking trails, as well as beautiful places to walk, cycle and other year round.
1114Plenty of outdoor recreation opportunities
1115Plenty of parks and recreation makes for healthy people.
1116Portland OR has no city or state sales tax, yet manages to get all the great things (from public transit to open space) that Tucson claims they want, but want to charge via tax to get. This ties back into lack of accountability with the funds.
1117Preservation of open space, riparian corridors, and the mountains/desert provide recreational opportunities - particularly birding. And many active recreational choices as well, cycling, hiking etc.
1118Preservation of outdoor space, easy hikes, etc.
1119Preserve natural resources (water, open spaces)
1120Preserve open spaces
1121Preserve the open space around Tucson
1122Pretty moderate temps most of the time. Makes it easy to be outdoors - wish there were more things to do - festivals, concerts etc that had covered seating in the summer though!
1123Prevalence of nature trails and hiking paths
1124Promotes an active lifestyle
1125Protect wilderness areas/open space
1126Protected open space
1127Provide bike paths, walking paths, access to schoolyards and parks and music/dance facilities in areas where those amenities aren't as abundant.
1128Provide people with green space and an opportunity for health
1129Provides funding for transportation, recreation, crime prevention, and the education system
1130Provides opportunities to be outdoors almost every day.
1131Provides recreational/leisure activities for all residents regardless of SES.

1143Public lands accessible (mountains, parks, trails, etc.)
1144Public lands are in important part of our family outings, recreation and we see it as an ammenity.
1145Public transportation or walking
1146Publicize and advertise these as positives about Tucson - it's everyone's job to let people know
1147Publicize these positives for tourism
1148Quality of life
1149Quality of life due to good weather most of the year - walk, hiking, outdoor events, parks, professional baseball (now gone) fair, rodeo, Mt. Lemmon, Sabino Canyon, Tombestone, Bisbee, Tubac, The RIVERWALK trails !
1150Quality of life issues: attract families because of hikes and parks

1165Recreational opportunities and I feel better
1166Recreational opportunities, brings tourists, attractive to businesses
1167Recreational outdoors
1168Recreational/hiking opportunities
1169Reinvigorate downtown, make it a place that people want to live. Consolidate living areas and connect with more open space.
1170Ride horses
1171Right next to my house there is Reid park, a great place to run, swim, golf, or just play.
1172Rillito path
1173River Parks and Other Outdoor Amenities
1174River trail, along Spanish Trail etc. are great for getting out and being active.
1175River trails
1176Running
1177Running paths
1178Rural atmosphere - open space - wildlife corridors
1179Rural feel open space
1180Sabino Canyon and Mt. Lemmon recreational areas
1181Sabino Canyon, Saguaro Natl. Park, Soccor, baseball and football fields
1182Sabino Canyon/Mt Lemmon
1183Safe and accessible hiking and walkways
1184Safe to exercise without watching for cars
1185Safety, fitness, outdoor recreation opportunities, pollution reduction
1186Saguaro National Monument, Sabino Canyon, Mt. Lemmon & other hiking trails are my favorite thing about Tucson. The mountains are beautiful and hiking or going up Mt. Lemmon in the summer are a great break.
1187Save open spaces / make green (natural) zones throughout city and around region
1188Save our open spaces
1189Scenery-Vast sky, mountains, sunsets, open areas.
1190Scenery/recreation opportunities
1191Scenic Hiking trails
1192Scenic beauty- 365 day/year outdoor recreation
1193Scenic beauty; mountains, sunsets, flora and fauna, warm winters, dramatic summers, clouds and skyscapes. The fresh air, on good days. Breezes. The dirt. The desert. The heat, blistering heat. The color pallette and light.
1194Scenic surroundings
1195See #'s 1 and 2 above.
1196See #1 (Natural Environment) we need to plan for keeping a good amount of natural desert/open space. Growth too often occurs where the people with the money want it to without enough regard to the overall picture.
1197See #1 and #2
1198See #1.
1199Seeing development overtake the landscape and limit the hiking trails is disconcerting. When I glance at the mountains and see the community development creeping further up the mountain's base, I wonder if there is a limit or is growth's only interest in making money through property taxes and development fees?
1200Seeing wildlife where I live. Great opportunities to hike, enjoy environment
1201Sense of community - illusion of wide open spaces
1202Sense of urbanism in an open space environment
1203Serene views from all over town, beautiful venues for exercise
1204Serenity and open space
1205Services at neighborhood centers have been cut to the bone. It is not even possible to access the centers for neighborhood activities. Recreation activities that are not paid for by outside interests (Soccer leagues, baseball leagues) are now non-existent.
1206Sets a good example for our kids
1207Shortly before I moved to Tucson in 2004, Pima County voters approved the purchase of substantial new open space lands. I believe the preservation of so much open space near our city center enhances the physical and emotional health us all, through cleaner air and easily accessed recreational opportunities.
1208Showcases Tucson outdoor beauty, lots of things for families to do
1209Since that is not realistic, seeing more activities for families that are indoors, yet still physical. Ice skating would be nice.
1210Skateboarding year round (for youth)
1211Small city and open spaces
1212Smart land use means we can maintain open spaces
1213So great to be able to go hiking in a pristine, natural desert within minutes of my central Tucson home.
1214So i am not limited by the weather to do outdoor activities or work
1215So many great outdoor activities
1216So many people use the river trail system for recreation, but also for commuting. so much has been done, but more needs to be done.
1217So much fun to see
1218So much outdoor stuff possible, from walking, biking (pleasure and commute), hiking, windows open, blue skying, hanging out on the patio
1219So much public land here and it's fully accessible
1220Some don't have parks in their neighborhoods. So how can you encourage kids to go out. Church does have basketball court. City could help neighborhood get a park
1221Sonoran Desert- mountain ranges and hiking trails
1222Sonoran desert is truly unique; many chances to participate in outside activities; kids grow up with an appreciation of nature
1223Spaces
1224Spend more time outdoors than other regions
1225Spending time outside and in natural setting recharges me.
1226Spiritual aspect to outdoors
1227Spread out/space (East side living)
1228Spring and Fall offer gorgeous weather for golf! Winters aren't too cold, but summers are definitely hot.
1229State recognizing the need to promote open affordable spaces
1230Stay balanced
1231Stay healthy physically and spiritually
1232Staying active.
1233Stop covering every square inch of bare ground with rocks.
1234Stop using our tax dollars to buy 'open space' and give out free rent and build hotels. Government should not be in the real estate business or own property. Get out of the way and stop making stupid sign rules and ridiculous hoops a business has to jump through to just start. A business should file an application for a business license and be able to open within a week. Stop charging businesses downtown $50k to open and then give out free rent to artists. Get the Marxists and anyone who does not beleive in free market capitalism out of our government. We are tired of being your slaves.
1235Summers ARE hot (in the middle of the day), but I am able to be outdoors, walking, playing tennis, golf, walking my dogs every day of the year. Try that in Boston!
1236Sun, weather, ability to be out of doors hiking, walking, swimming, etc
1237Sunny days allow more outdoor activities
1238Sunshine and wild spaces
1239Sunshine enables me to lead an outdoor life.
1240Sunshine in the morning, warm and dry. It is a beautiful place to be. Endless possibilities to enjoy the outdoors
1241Sunshine keep me going. Moderate temperatures most of the year allow for more physical activity. Improves my health.
1242Sunshine, warmth, vistas, expansiveness
1243Sunshine/weather/outdoor opportunities
1244Support the velodrome, more skateboard parks, BMX parks, Climbing facilities etc. It will make the city more attractive to the 20 somethings for living and visiting. I'm sick of hearing about how awesome Portland is. The weather there is crappy yet they rule, becase they support the alternative culture of the community. I can't get my 20 and 30 somethings to visit Tucson, because Portalnd is way more attractive.
1245Surrounded by conserved natural parks
1246Surrounding areas are very scenic accomodating for outdoor people.
1247Surrounding national, state parks and open areas
1248Surrounding open space
1249Swimming
1250Take a walk, go on the trails just the beauty of the place
1251Take family outing
1252Teh desert, the parks and national monuments and parks. The relative ease in which one can travel through town. The fact that I spend so much time of the year outside.
1253Tell more people- website, Facebook, www.tucson.com, Tucson Bucketlist, etc.
1254Temperate area, to enjoy outdoor activities year round.
1255That I can enjoy gardening all year round. Outdoor entertaining and activities year round as well.
1256That I can get to the outdoors easily and be active outside
1257The 'little' patches of landscape you can see
1258The Catalinas are a beautiful mountain range that acts as a backdrop to Tucson. Walking in Sabino Canyon is always a great pleasure.
1259The City of Tucson needs to open more year round pools in different parts of the city.
1260The Hiking Club opened up a whole new world for me when I moved here from flat Illinois. No matter what your interest, it seems there's an appropriate group for you.
1261The Mountains are very calming and provide recreational opportunities.
1262The Sonoran Desert is an irreplaceable resource providing both wildlife habitat to numerous rare species as well as recreation to people in the region. Protecting the fragile balance between habitat and human occupation should take primacy in any discussion of future development. Without a healthy and diverse environment, healthy human civilization cannot exist.
1263The Sonoran Desert is such a special place. Being able to hike through Saguaro National Park or Catalina State Park is priceless. One afternoon hike at the latter--I encountered TWO Gila Monsters in an hour of walking.
1264The Tucson community is surounded by natrual beauty - the mountains, the arroyos, the saguaros and other features. Open space, access to nature, opportunities to enjoy nature - are one of the areas greatest features and needs to be preserved, with access and opportunities expanded. (Closing state parks is not a positive step)
1265The Tucson community is very aware of the environment and very cautious to do damage to it. I love the Catalinas and the care that has been taken to allow us to hike, camp, explore, etc.
1266The University of Arizona is our crown jewel fueling knowledge based discoveries and high tech job growth, sporting events, fine arts and so much more. We have arts, culture (from southwestern/hispanic/tribal to symphony/Arizona Theatre/UA presents/museums), restaurants, sports (outdoor and spectator), mountains and deserts, plants and wildlife, gem shows and rodeo.
1267The University, and the TAAA, Tucson Amateur Astronomy Association
1268The ability to be outdoors comfortably year round -I love the Sonoran habitats & Sabino Canyon.
1269The ability to be outdoors so many months a year
1270The ability to be outside most of the year - weather!
1271The ability to do outdoor activities all year long.
1272The ability to do outdoor activities.
1273The ability to engage in so many outdoor activities
1274The ability to experience different climates, scenery, foliage and the opportunities that exist with outdoor recreation such as hiking, climbing, camping, etc.
1275The ability to get outdoors and enjoy the unspoiled/undeveloped natural areas that surround Tucson.
1276The ability to go from the city to the mountains for hiking and recreation.
1277The ability to participate in outside recreation for most of the year. Which means we need more parks.
1278The ability to play golf/bike in the winter
1279The ability to spend so much of the year outside
1280The ability to take two hours 'vacations'
1281The access to outdoor activities
1282The air is healthy to breathe most of the time and the weather allows one to be outside a lot and be active.
1283The amount of outdoor activities available
1284The amount of space around me, not being crunched up, and the availability of ourdoor activities
1285The area is beautiful and creates a sence of peace and fun recreational activities to do...
1286The availability of a multitude of golf courses
1287The availability of and proximity to natural open space areas. It's also important that when I go to these places, they aren't overly crowded.
1288The availability to be out of doors literally year-round to hike, bike, horse-back ride in a beautiful environment.
1289The beautiful nature hiking paths, bike paths, mountains, canyons
1290The beautiful sunny outdoors and nice folks to enjoy ith with
1291The beautiful views of the mountains, open spaces with stands of saguaros, and desert hiking and trails
1292The beautiful weather allows almost constant outside activity. It's perfect for sports, fitness, leisure, gardening, etc. The abundant sunshine keeps me happy and the ability to be outside keeps me healthy.
1293The beautiful weather makes it a very pleasant place to live - easy to travel, walk, ride a bike, enjoy the outdoors. It fosters a healthy lifestyle and I think people should be more relaxed than those living in areas where the four seasons bring snow, rain and dark days that impact people's moods and travel to/from work, wherever.
1294The beauty and chances to get outside in Tucson are unique for a desert city in Arizona.
1295The beauty and ruggedness of our mountains against the background of the high desert. Also, having the opportunity to hike and walk the areas.
1296The beauty here is sometimes overwhelming: there is so very much to do outside: hike, climb, picnic, just sit and enjoy. If this natural beauty were to be significantly destroyed or ruined, Tucson would never recover.
1297The beauty of the mountains, sun rises and sunsets, and the outdoors opportunities given the diverse geography
1298The beauty of this area the cactuses! Everything
1299The beauty that surrounds the area - this must be preserved. There's nothing like getting up and seeing a gorgeous sunrise/sunset in the mountains; or walk to a park where there are native plants/vegetation/flowers. We must maintain areas like this ALL over Tucson and preserve our land!
1300The big sky, desert to mountain access, hiking and camping, weather.
1301The calm atmosphere really tends to make Tucson seem like a relaxing place to live, almost like taking a vacation, especially when a lot of my time is spent in Phoenix and other metro areas. There are positives and negatives about having a relaxing way of life since in phoenix you can get and do about anything you want. Although I like the dark sky at night here in Tucson and I think we should grow with keeping ordinances that protect the dark sky in areas and allow other areas for recreation and night time activities as well. I don't want people to think that I don't want growth and that I want to live in the middle of the desert. I like growth and I am glad Tucson grew, because now my family and others can enjoy what Tucson has to offer. Why should we limit growth? We shouldn't be selfish by not allowing anyone else to enjoy this area? I just want a balance between growth and ordinances that produce inexpensive and smart growth.
1302The chance to be outdoors
1303The city is interwoven quite a bit with the Sonoran desert environment. There's not so much feeling of being encased in concrete. People are outdoors, walking around.
1304The climate allows us to enjoy so many outdoor activities, it allows us all to live a healthier, more active life
1305The climate in Tucson enables us to be active year round, particulary September-May.
1306The climate is mild enough for outdoor activities and raising livestock all year round.
1307The climate of Tucson and the surrounding area is condusive to outdoor activity.
1308The continual visual access to the beautiful mountains, the easy physical access to beautiful natural sites. The year around possibility for out door activity and bicycle commuting. The year around possibility for out door activity and bicycle commuting
1309The contrast the mountains provide against the desert, and the hiking trails, and the temperature and vegatation changes you can experience.
1310The countryside around the city is beautiful. A half-hour hike takes you to a completely different world.
1311The cultural scene of Tucson elevates us above 'cowpoke' status. I want the outdoor activities that Tucson is famous for, but I also want some of the 'high brow' entertainment and educational opportunities.
1312The depth and variety of cultural opportunities is amazing here, from art, to dance, to music, to theatre, and the variety of each. The street festivals are amazing too.
1313The desert - hiking trails, mountains, Gates Pass for a pretty drive
1314The desert and mountain areas. Beautiful hiking places around here
1315The desert and the wonderful weather mean that I can be outside a lot. Hiking here is great. I love the Catalinas, Sabino Canyon and the Tucson Mountains and all of the wildlife: coyotes, birds, javelinas.
1316The desert provides great outdoor recreation opportunities.
1317The diversity of people, groups and landscapes
1318The diversity provides lots of options for lifestyle choices-recreation, entertainment etc
1319The easy access to undeveloped desert and mountains for outdoor recreation
1320The ecosystems and open land of Arizona
1321The fact that we don't have as many freeways and that the archetecture of many of our subdivisions have been constructed with seemingly more green space and with more western or Hispanic type archetecture has been a plus. The Hispanic influence has been felt here strongly and and adds so much to the community being a good place to live.
1322The feeling of wide open spaces
1323The great outdoor recreational opportunities
1324The land of the free, home of the brave. This means I can hike by myself without fear. Freedom to think, build, discover, create,... It requires a balance of governmental protection and courage. Anarchy is a fight to survive; true freedom without dreams or hope is not free. Hume said it was brutal and short. Those on both sides of a social contract have a part. People need to define government. The size battle is tricky. I would split the money from the plans. Ideas should not be encumbered by cost. An expensive idea can change, people can be wrong about costs; a plan could inspire T Boone Pickens...
1325The landmarks with associated hiking trails (i.e.: Gates Pass, Madera Canyon, Sabino Canyon, etc.)
1326The landscape and respect for nature
1327The less traffic the more city is accessible to me (less expensive, less time, more entertainment and fulfillment in life; less anxiety)
1328The library, markets, parks, everything I need is close.
1329The mild winter weather also allows me to participate nearly year round in outdoor activities. Summers are kind of hot, but thank goodness for swimming pools!
1330The mountains and desert and close proximity to multiple trails of multiple distances. I'm a runner and hiker.
1331The mountains and nature are very important to me. The easy accessibility to hiking trails like Finger rock, sabino Canyon, the Rillito River walking/bike path. It's a real stress -reliever to have these places nearby. They are also places to see people, run into old friends, since we don't really have a city center, a zocalo where people congregate, these areas take the place of a city center. Actually, sabino Canyon on a weekend is like an old fashioned Zocalo. You can see everyone you know and it makes Tucson feel like a small town.
1332The mountains and public land; outdoor recreation
1333The mountains and resulting sunrises/sunsets are realyl beautiful, and I had never done much hiking prior to moving here, but really enjoy it.
1334The mountains and the recreation centers
1335The mountains and unspoiled outdoor areas
1336The mountains are a joy to look at and spend time in.
1337The mountains are very scenic and allow for lots of outdoor activities - climbing, biking, hiking, camping, etc.
1338The mountains around Tucson afford numerous recreational oppertunities- hiking, camping, mtn biking, 4 wheeling....beautiful sunsets behind mountains.
1339The mountains for hiking, plenty of golf, tennis, swimming etc. Patio dining areas and outdoor grills.
1340The mountains provide breathtaking views wherever you live. They provide opportunities for hikes, walks, horseback rides, camping, biking and more.
1341The mountains that ring Tucson make for a spectacular setting as well as the open space for hiking, etc.
1342The mountains, the blue sky, the hiking trails all combine to make this desert oasis truly unique.
1343The mountains/natural areas
1344The national park areas allow for people to be active.
1345The natural beauty and remaining open spaces.
1346The nice weather allows me to do with my time outdoors.
1347The nice weather makes people more up beat and incline to enjoy life and the beautiful outdoors.
1348The number of City of Tucson Swimming Pools.
1349The number of outdoor activities available
1350The open areas
1351The open minded nature of the community the open nature of the natural environment
1352The open space, the Desert
1353The open space.
1354The open spaces and the opportunity for an active lifestyle
1355The open spaces and the wonderful climate
1356The open spaces around Tucson
1357The openness and beautiful sky/views
1358The opportunity to enjoy cycling, running, hiking, and wandering throughout our desert environment
1359The opportunity to get outside
1360The out doors
1361The outdoor activities
1362The outdoor activities that surround the Tucson area
1363The outdoor appeal
1364The outdoor lifestyle
1365The outdoor lifestyle I can have
1366The outdoor opportunities especially the hiking
1367The outdoor recreational Opportunities
1368The outdoor recreational opportunities in/around the city
1369The outdoor recreational opportunities.
1370The outdoor, healthy lifestyle that the good weather encourages
1371The outdoors (mountains and canyons)
1372The outdoors are important
1373The outdoors, the natural environment
1374The outdoors: big sky, mountains, all that.
1375The outside activities
1376The parks and recreaction facilities and activities
1377The pay scale is low here, but the cost of living isn't that much better to make it comparable. There are too many people homeless and wandering the streets and we should figure out a way to get all the social service agencies together in one location downtown as well as provide housing, job assistance, recreation, etc. in one location.
1378The people are nice, friendly, down to earth, and outdoorsy.
1379The proximity to nature and hiking
1380The proximity to the mountains, desert, city, rural landscape - all are within 20 minutes.
1381The public golf courses should pay for pros to do the courses. It would save money in the long run and we could have some great city golf. Also, in city planning of new areas - let the pros do it, instead of each person on the city council trying to figure out what to do. We are running out of time.
1382The public/open lands in and around the city
1383The reason I remain in Tucson is because of the hiking and biking opportunties that abound around the city.
1384The running community
1385The running community here is very robust and close-knit (for the most part)
1386The sense of 'freedom and peacefulness' I get from seeing the wide open spaces . . . REMARKABLE
1387The sun and great outdoors are what make other things passable here in Tucson. We're not taking advantage of what we have.
1388The sunrises and sunsets are georgous. Plus the mild winter is the best. I love that we can be outdoors most of the year.
1389The sunshine and hiking
1390The surrounding mountain ranges and open space.
1391The topography and climate, with plenty of sunshine bring smiles to my face every day.
1392The trees, parks, open spaces, etc. that sustain Nature: birds, ( small & raptors) round tail squirals. One of the remarkable statement I heard from a visiting New Yorker: 'You have birds here. I hear them sing' !!!
1393The typically mild weather allows me to enjoy being outside biking, hiking, playing golf, tennis, basketball, dining, etc.
1394The unique plants and animals, hiking, outdoors activities.
1395The university is only one educational opportunity in Tucson. There are many parks and hiking trails. There are non-profit opportunities that allow sharing of knowledge and there is a large community of elders with wisdom to share.
1396The variety of outdoor activities
1397The various outdoor activities that are in close proximity.
1398The very thing that makes Tucson special to me - the availability of recreation is the thing that is being cut because of the budget. I and others have seen our recreation options dwindle (closing of swimming pools, etc.) and that along with other issues, makes me wonder why I stay in this area.
1399The views are amazing here. We have such beautiful sunsets every night, and the mountains are gorgeous. I love it that I can spend time outside year round and that there are many parks and trails. For example, the Rillito River Trail is one of my all time favorite things about my neighborhood. I know if I ever live anywhere else, I will miss that trail. I think Tucson needs to preserve our environmental treasures and really endorse it.
1400The weather - allowing many days for outdoor activity
1401The weather allows for many different outdoor activities throughout the year and the natural beauty surrounding the city provides a beauty that is unique to this area.
1402The weather allows for multiple outdoor activities on a year round bases.
1403The weather allows plenty of outdoor activities, such as hiking and running.
1404The weather allows up to have a great deal of outdoor activity without the limitations associated with harsher climates
1405The weather allows us the enjoy our surroundings more. More cycling, more running, in other words, we thoroughly enjoy all the outdoor activities with the great weather.
1406The weather allows you to do more outdoor activities year round.
1407The weather and doing outdoor activities is personally important to me because they support living an active, healthy and social life style.
1408The weather and outdoor activities
1409The weather and outdoor opportunities
1410The weather and outdoor recreation
1411The weather and the many activities to take advantage of it
1412The weather and the outdoors.
1413The weather here year-round is so fantastic that I don't feel cabin-fever and can usually play during the day in my shorts!!
1414The weather in the winter is awesome. Its those 4 months of incredible beautiful weather, and a little bit of rain that allow me to spend any time outdoors. The rest of the year - forget it.
1415The weather is beautiful most of the time. Easy to plan activities outside to enjoy the environment and scenery.
1416The weather is opportunity to be outdoors and mix with neighbors. Weather promotes many outdoor social events which is enhances the feeling of community pride and ownership.
1417The weather is perfect for the majority of the year, making Tucson a great place to enjoy outdoor activities.
1418The weather is so nice that you can be outside almost 365 days a year.
1419The weather makes it possible to be outside most of the year (I am not here in the summer) and no longer worry about snow, frozen pipes, (well, that was dis-proven this month!)or cars starting is a great plus in the quality of life.
1420The weather, and being able to play soccer and other outdoor sports year round.
1421The weather, mountains, trails, parks are so awesome. I love seeing people out and about with the family and friends enjoying the outdoors
1422The weather, the close proximity to nature and outdoor activities
1423The wide open spaces that can be accessible for a variety of uses for all, including wildlife as well as human use
1424The wide variety of natural hiking trails in the area for recreation
1425The wide varity of landscape.
1426The winter weather months, allow me to do things outdoors like: run, jog, walk, bike ride.
1427Theatre, museums, music, lectures, hiking, desert museum, places to visit, explore.
1428There are a large number of trails for public use in the Tucson area and they allow people to connect with the natural beauty of the tucson area. Walking, biking and vehicle trails provides endless enjoyment to those who utilize them.
1429There are a lot of areas where I can engage in outdoor activities
1430There are a lot of different kinds of outdoor recreation that takes place due to the decent weather the majority of the year an open areas near the city.
1431There are a lot of people here that lead active lifestyles in the outdoors.
1432There are a lot of things that can be done outdoors.
1433There are always activities available for the outdoor enthusiast
1434There are choices for arts, sports, recreation, and many things of that nature
1435There are enough activity choices and things one can do without being overwhelming.
1436There are health benefits. The availability of recreation helps to combat obesity. Outreach and centralized information is needed to make the public more aware of that availability
1437There are many access issues for the disabled which are not enforced locally. Engage the disabled community in discussions about improvements to parks, recreation, transit etc.
1438There are many areas for hiking, camping, picnicing, etc. and I can do them the year around.
1439There are many great options for outdoor activities within driving distance to central Tucson. Also, Mt. Lemmon is a great and quick get away from the summer heat.
1440There are many things to do here because of the museums, the university, the active lifestyle, and cultural groups that live in Tucson.
1441There are many vacant, abondoned properties and buildings that should to be occupied or repurposed rather than fostering future indiscrimate growth. Need to protect wild spaces that are Tucson's identity and heritage.
1442There are miles of bike lanes for riding, state, city and National parks/forests for exploring. The proximity to and abundance of outdoor activities are the reason I choose to live in Tucson.
1443There are more options about things to do in nature
1444There are no movie theaters downtown that are cheap like at crossroads. there is no tucson 'desert sky pavillion'. we really need an outdoor concert area. this could go just west of the freeway south of congress.
1445There are outdoor recreation areas available in all directions. I can hike, bike and horse back ride. I have lived in East Tucson and West Tucson. Both have easy access to lots of outdoor recreation.
1446There are so many grassroots groups working to make Tucson more livable and pleasant. From environmental, to community and alternative transportation, to arts and yoga
1447There are so many opportunities to participate in and enjoy the natural beauty all around us. Whether Sabino Canyon, trail hiking, charity runs, walking the neighborhood, etc.--and of course our lovely, year-round weather--we are so blessed.
1448There are so many places to go and things to do to stay active and enjoy the beauty of the area. So many knowledgeable volunteers who share their expertise with residents and visitors alike.
1449There is a great serenity in seeing, being near, and hiking in the mountains
1450There is a tremendously broad range of outdoor settings and habitats that provide opportunities for many different types of outdoor activities.
1451There is a university that offers a lot of cultural and learning opportunities. There are affordable (usually, compared to bigger cities) concerts, art events and sporting events. Medical facilities, recreation, good food.
1452There is always an activity to do
1453There is always something to do in Tucson whether it's the arts, community events, or out in nature, there is always something for everyone in Tucson.
1454There is an obesity problem partially related to lack of physical activity. Physical activity could be easily achieved if a walk to the store was as simply done as it is stated.
1455There is good weather here to go and do whatever your heart desires, alot of fiesta's, walking paths, camp area's
1456There is no Tucson without protected open space desert preserves including the wildlife thereof. We are not interested in living in a place with all the same culture. Diversity, and respect of diverse thoughts, cultures, opinions and experiences are the cornerstone of Tucson. It is what attracted to the region, and what has kept us here for more than 25 years.
1457There is open space in and around Tucson, and I love the Sonoran Desert
1458There is plenty of space of environmental rehabilitation
1459There is plenty to do, lots going on for people of all ages. We have two small children and the library is great, LOVE the zoo, local theater for kids and adults is terrific, UA has wonderful community offerings, and my husband really appreciates the local music scene.
1460There is so much to do here, ranging from art of all kinds, music of all kinds, volunteer opportunities, outdoor activities, etc. If you can't find something to do here, you are just to lazy to get off of your fat ass.
1461There needs to be more paths and parks where people can walk, visit, bikeride, etc.
1462There needs to be something to do on a Saturday afternoon outdoors without having to like hiking
1463There's plenty to do in a city of this size, including outdoor recreation, parks, plays, music, and resorts.
1464These areas are habitat for the wildlife I love, and make this area beautiful.
1465These areas provide recreational, scenic, and aesthetic benefits that can lead to health and happiness
1466These recreational opportunities with good friends.
1467These trails have always been a part of my outdoor life.
1468They allow you to be outdoors and go hiking; it is nice it is so recreational
1469They don't call it the GREAT OUTDOORS for nothing. Just love having places such as Saguaro National Park or Coronado National Forest so close by. The State and County parks too.
1470They should be creating an image of Tucson as the last great western town, instead of a city with lots of golf course and resorts for rich people.
1471Things are convenient, dress is casual, it's easy to get outdoors, people are friendly and open.
1472Things like Sabino Canyon, Mt. Lemmon, Desert Museum, hiking trails
1473Things to do for fitness and family bonding
1474This allows Tucsonans to be more active, which results in a healthier community.
1475This is a great area to be retired in and just starting to play golf here has been great
1476This is an outstanding park. It supports our desire for long hikes and wildlife.
1477This is an outstanding place for people to get to know about the Sonoran Desert while also having an opportunity to participate in taking care of part of our natural heritage. It is also a great place to hike, bike, picnic, and explore. And, it is a great place for people from all walks of life to come together with a common purpose.
1478This is more TUCSON than the rest of the 'region' but I value having a neighborhood where we interact and talk to one another, we have places to walk, walk our dogs, and have facilities (markets etc) within walking distance and these facilities are at a scale where we don't need to take our cars to lug our big boxes home afterward. I also value the cultural diversity in our neighborhood this diversity is something to be celebrated not something to be scared of.
1479This is somewhat related to the first one and that is I can live outside quite a bit more.
1480This is what has kept me in Tucson and I am devastated every time I see the bull dozers destroying yet another swath of desert vegetation, saguaros in particular, and wild life habitat. I love to walk in the desert, I love to take my dogs up 'A' Mountain and along the trails so lovingly cared for by Senor Carlos. I am in awe everytime we have a spring wild flower display, from the poppies to the tiniest of yellow, oink, and white flowers. I enjoy my visits from the javalina, even when they eat things that I should have known better than to plant where they can get them. I listen to the coyotes and watch the hawks, try hard not to encounter rattle snakes, and am fascinated by the tarantulas and scorpians. Pack rats and kissing bugs, I could do without, but no paradise is perfect!
1481This makes Tucson and enjoyable place to live, the Arizona/Sonoran Desert Museum and other places to hike and enjoy the outdoors are all the positives for me
1482Though I am not a big hiker, I do appreciate being able to go exploring and camping with just a short drive from my home. Astronomy is my hobby and I love Kitt peak and the science community that is built up in Tucson and the amazing scientific achievements from the University of Arizona.
1483Though Tucson does a decent job, I'd like to see the bikeability/walkability/public transportation situation improve. With all the wide open space we have, in fact, I think we should be leading the country in this aspect.
1484Ti would be nice to have a pedestrian friendly licely pretty downtown where people could walk in the evening fell safe and enjoy restaurants music arts and other fun events. would be nice to have a destination downtown to be proud of. i really think it is important to have aplace to stroll like in European cities. nice outdoor performance spaces.
1485Time spent outdoors fishing, hiking, relaxing on back porch. I am retired and have lived in Tucson since 1956.
1486Tons of parks and trails allow for lots of recreational opportunities.
1487Too much sprawl and thin development. Create more dense development patterns and reclaim open space around more dense development areas. Get the same number of people in less land area.
1488Topography
1489Tourist attraction - economic value
1490Trade offs: More roads mean less open space
1491Trails & paths for pedestrians, bikes, etc.
1492Tucson Landscape/Climate
1493Tucson Meet Yourself
1494Tucson has a climate that enables me to never shovel snow again. I enjoy the proximity to mountains and the various seasons that allow for outdoor activities.
1495Tucson has a great heritage of conservation and remaining close to our desert surroundings. Large areas of open space are intermixed with the suburban growth - and while many people would prefer less 'sprawl' this pattern of ranch homes on acreage is truly a unique characteristic of Tucson that sets it apart from many urban, planned communities. While new urbanization is very much supported, I think it is important to also recognize how much of the flavor of Tucson comes from individuals being able to live close to the desert (as opposed to close to work, shopping, or entertainment venues). The challenge is to find infrastructure (regional transportation options) that can bridge those individuals who choose to live closer to the desert with those who choose the new urbanization.
1496Tucson has natural beauty and there are a lot of places to go hiking.
1497Tucson has not historically been known for good planning. We need to latch hold of the concept of not only ensuring artwork is available with new projects, but also that there are consistent green (nature) zones or parks made available as we grow and develop and do so in town whenever opportunities arise.
1498Tucson has peaceful places to exercise outdoors, which make up for the lousy customer service everywhere else. If you stop eating in restaurants because of poor service, you will soon not be dining out of your home. Retail more often than not, makes you feel bad for spending money in their stores.
1499Tucson has so much to offer- the climate, the mountains, the ability to do almost anything outdoors for 350 days per year.
1500Tucson has some of the best rock climbing, backpacking, and other outdoor activities in the country.
1501Tucson is a beautiful place to live. Surrounded by mountains, desert, wildlife, dark skies which project the moon and stars like on a canvas - bike and hiking trails - What more could you want in a place called home?
1502Tucson is a great place to live. We do not have to worry about extreme weather conditions. Personally, I believe it is a great place to live and recreate.
1503Tucson is an absolutely beautiful place to live. Being able to experience the outdoors is essential. We need to maintain great outdoor venues, less trafficked areas etc...
1504Tucson is close enough to other attrations or out door events. mountians, sking, fishing hunting etc
1505Tucson is hot and the splash pads that are dotted around the city are great. We need more of those.
1506Tucson is in a valley surrounded by four spectacular mountain ranges, making for great hikes and bicycle rides in the surrounding area.
1507Tucson is limited in terms of the variety of recreation it offers. Rio Nuevo is a great idea and San Antonio was so successful, as well as a city in New Mexico where they did something similar...Rio Nuevo should have already been completed, or at least nearing the end phases! TEP was POORLY planned! What a bad location, there's nothing around it.
1508Tucson is proud of its outdoor heritage. We live in a natural environment, and most of us become stewards of our own little piece of it. No grass and fountains....
1509Tucson is surrounded by a great deal of open space and natural beauty and mountains
1510Tucson is wicked beautiful. I love walking the Rillito River trail with my dog every morning and evening. I love being surrounded by beautiful mountains. I love that everyone else in Tucson loves to be outside!
1511Tucson needs a better plan to utilize vacant/unbuildable property for open space uses. This helps improve the quality of life for existing Tucsonans. Community Gardens offers excersice, promotes community freinliness, and helps teach people where their food should come from.
1512Tucson needs more places for children and family to spend time outdoors
1513Tucson offers a wide and varied range of things to do--artistic-cultural-sports-the resources of the University et al.
1514Tucson offers many hiking trail, animal exhibits and zoos. Also, the botanical gardens are very nice. Tohono Chul Park is quaint and informative.
1515Tucson really has a lot to offer outdoors. We haven't been swallowed up by concrete - yet.
1516Tucson's lovely weather allows us to enjoy outdoor activities throughout most of the year.
1517Tucson's majestic beauty and amazing outdoor spaces
1518Tucson's natural 'wide open spaces' shouldn't be ruined by clustered traffic messes.
1519Tucson's open space and setting, surrounded by mountains, are important to preserve. The more that gets developed, the longer it takes to get out of town to open space.
1520Turn the TEP ball park in to an outdoor performance center. Turn one of the golf courses at Reid Park into park
1521UA games, golf, swimming, bike paths
1522Unique to Tucson
1523Urban loop non motorized trail around Pima County
1524Urban trails
1525Variety of city parks and National Parks to go to and spend the day.
1526Variety of ecology from mountains to riparian areas and the variety of wildlife if of primary value to me for hiking, viewing, and just knowing they are there.
1527Views - Open land areas
1528Walkable and bike friendly
1529Walking in the old neighborhoods
1530Walking paths in the area are a plus
1531Walking, hiking, and other outdoor activities are crucial to my well being. Getting out into unspoiled areas nearby restores my soul. The beauty of the mountains, sky, native plants and animals are a very valuable asset for the community and a necessary part of living for me personally.
1532Walking/hiking trails/paths
1533Want to be able to expand places where I run or cycle.
1534Want to live and contribute to sustaining the health and vigor of a smaller city that is surrounded by open land and rural type living; want to ensure sprawl does not destroy the rural western feel
1535Want weather and parks to help motivate youth and children to volunteer and be inspired to something with their life more outdoor activities. Get vision to get this going
1536Warm pools during summer
1537Warm winters, tennis all year 'round.
1538Warm winters- 3 1/2 months - encourage outdoor activity
1539Warm-ish in the winter; not ridiculous in the summer, if you have lived here a while. LOTS to do (those who say otherwise are afraid of getting out of breath): Sabino Canyon, Mt. Lemmon, hiking, biking.
1540Water, snow, hiking with dogs,
1541Ways to be outside when it is 90+ degrees
1542We - children, grandchildren - can spend more time outdoors
1543We all enjoy getting outdoors and being active.
1544We are not a concrete city. There is green space and plants. The mountains are visible from all parts of town.
1545We can always be outside, it's enjoyable not to be in snow
1546We can be outside all year round, barbeque, run, bike
1547We can get out to enjoy nature and take walks.
1548We can help to have a better world and provide a healthier adolecensce for our children
1549We could use more venues for all types of activities including outdoor off road tracks and various indoor shows.
1550We enjoy the outdoor lifestyle and the access to riding and hiking trails. Also like the areas that are zoned to accommodate a rural lifestyle yet have restrictions to promote thoughtful growth.
1551We get to ride bikes as exercise or a little while.
1552We get to spend more time outdoors
1553We have a major research resource in the U of A, lot's of open land and the most sunshine of any city in the country. That we don't lead the country and rightly the world in solar development is shameful.
1554We have a place to go and have fun while we exercise with our families
1555We have access to wild areas, hiking close to the city. We have wild life in town. We do not need to go far to enjoy an outdoors wild experience.
1556We have almost everything Phoenix has except the Los Angeles feel. Tucson has 4 star resorts, restaurants, on and off Broadway plays and fine art venues, lots of quality golf courses and attractions. Let's not forget all the outdoor activities. I feel Tucson has a lot to offer.
1557We have beautiful land, extraordinary wildlife & weather that supports healthy outdoor activities and appreciation of nature; hiking, golf, picnics, outdoor community & social events
1558We have excellent public courses at reasonable rates. Spend the money to support them and stop talking about selling then.
1559We have fabulous recreational opportunities here within a one hour drive - Mt Lemon, Madera Canyon, Sabino Canyon, the Tucson mtns, lots of parks, the river walks, bike paths, Fantasy Island. Its easy to get outside and enjoy the outdoors quickly.
1560We have hot days and cold days. Overall the weather is great for being outside whenever you want and I think that makes for a healthier lifestyle.
1561We have saved and treasure our natural beauties surrounding our area. There are alot of people who live here who are committed to saving the land from cement and houses. I love being able to drive 15-20 minutes and I am in the beautiful dessert taking a hike.
1562We have such a terrific climate for outdoor activities, but it's often dangerous to walk/bike around town.
1563We have the ementities of a big city, while still maintaining open spaces.
1564We hike regularly, walk daily, watch the stars and otherwise appreciate the beautiful natural environment. My idea of 'winter' is a 60 degree, sunny day -- with an occasional rainstorm to keep the cactus happy!
1565We hike, ride quads and generally love being outdoors.
1566We like our outdoor sports and weather permits our hobbies
1567We live in an environment and setting that allow for year round physical activities bringing the possibility of healthier populations
1568We love being outside; able to hike and live outdoors most of the year. I have a childhood injury which would have prohibited winter activity in most climes.
1569We love the out of doors and hiking. It is our main form of recreation. There are so many beautiful and accessible trails of all levels to make a great day for either a short hike or a longer one.
1570We need a stronger metropolitan open space system
1571We need green corridors which in the long run are suppliers of ecosystem services which saves the municipalities money i.e. flood control
1572We need more water parks
1573We need to increase the number of free or reduced price recreational programs for youth. We need more centers where youth can hang out after school. The facilities need to stay open late. The facilities need to provide the following resources: jobs, educational activities, sports, sex and health education.
1574We need to protect open space and the county has been short sighted in protecting that open space
1575We still have our personality...the Barrios, the Foothills, hiking, walking, farmer's markets...not just massive shopping centers
1576Weather - Sunshine for the majority of the year - ability to do outdoor activities such as running and biking on clean, safe paths.
1577Weather and Location with wide variety of recreational opportunities that are outdoor related.
1578Weather and Outdoors
1579Weather and access to outdoor activities.
1580Weather encourages/allows me to be more physically active. Walk, hike, bike, swim. More alive
1581Weather facilitates outdoor living
1582Weather for outdoor activities
1583Weather is nice most of the year - can do lots of things outdoors The scenery is just gorgeous in the region, lifts your spirtis
1584Weather lets us be outdoors often.
1585Weather, scenic beauty, opportunities for outdoor recreation
1586Weather, topography, Openess
1587Weather- allows you to enjoy the outdoors and be happy
1588Weather--can be outdoors year round
1589Weather/ Outdoor activities
1590Weather/ outdoor activities
1591Weather/Outdoor Rec opportunities
1592Weather/ability to be outdoors. Saguaros and both Sag Nat'l parks, Sabino Canyon, and more. It's a great place to be and to be able to enjoy nature. Whether you walk, hike, cycle or run- tucson is the best of all worlds.
1593Weather/outdoor activities
1594Weathershorts 300+ days
1595What has always appealed most to my about Tucson is its proximity to the desert, its relative isolation ('desert island mentality'), and its position as an international gateway. Recent policies in this country have, unfortunately, altered the ease and friendliness of international cooperation and views; however, the fact that Tucson is one hundred miles or more from another urban area, and that much of the land surrounding it is Federal land, open and protected, continues, for me, to be a large draw.
1596What's left of our open space
1597When an area is clean and properly landscaped, whether naturally or by adding native vegetation, it is pleasurable to enjoy the amazing weather we have been given. From sunrise to sunsets, and enjoying the outdoors.
1598When the people are outside having fun
1599Whether hiking biking etc, the natural landscape is amazing...always something different, and the light is fantastic
1600While I still don't like the 100+ degrees we get in the summer I think we have some of the best weather in the country. If we want to go skiing or see snow we can go to Mt. Lemmon or head up to the White Mountains.
1601While challenging at times due to the heat, the weather here is conducive to indoor/outdoor living that is unique to our area.
1602While there are some great parks for kids around Tucson, when looking at field usage for sports (which can be vital to youth development in a variety of areas), Tucson is lacking. The costs to use the fields goes up and makes participating in healthy outdoor activities/sports for youth more challenging which in turn depletes these programs and makes Tucson less appealing...
1603Wide open spaces
1604Wild life and nature trails
1605Wild spaces
1606Wilderness areas close by
1607Wilderness areas not over-run with people/evidence of industrial civilization and connected, healthy habitat for wildlife. Nature is essential for human sanity
1608Wilderness values, preservation values, scenic viewsheds, outdoor recreation opportunities
1609Wildlife and natural areas within the urban area
1610With a short radius of Tucson you can go to anything from the Opera, beach or snow skiing. It really has everything you want.
1611With such beautiful weather in southern Arizona, we have the luxury of being able to spend time outside no matter the time of year. Activities such as hiking, biking, running, golf, etc. Even a stroll at the park is nice in any season.
1612With the exception of a few communities, it's nice to know that I can travel, walk, shop, recreate, and etc. and know that there is little that could actually harm me. I also know that people look out for each other and would help prevent harmful events and/ or acts.
1613Within a short 15-30 min. dirve time you can get our of the city and into nature for hiking, biking, etc
1614Without recreational activities kids are out on the streets
1615Wonderful hiking and biking trails. Sabino Canyon, Saguaro Nat'l Monument, Rincon's and Catalina's and Santa Rita's
1616Wonderful hiking, biking, and aesthetically beautiful area. I'm an outdoor exercise lover.
1617Wonderful weather for outdoor activities, from wine & cheese in the front yard to biking and hiking.
1618Woo-hoo! 'nugh said.
1619Worry over water resources Like to hike, bike, etc. and want to retain a desert environment in which to do so
