Imagine Greater Tucson 2010-11 Phase I Community Conversation and Survey Statements Related to The regions natural parks and preserves |
| A livable, enjoyable community is one that is cared for and loved. Invest in taking care of the resources and infrastructure we have already. Maintain the parks and streets according to best management practices, take care of the plantings so they are healthy and aesthetically pleasing (not overpruned or neglected), clean out the trash. Make Tucson such a pleasant-appearing community that people want to be here. |
| A central park in the town center |
| A park nearby (outback) nearby Pharmacy and restaurants |
| A really cool park would be nice |
| AZ Sonoran Desert Museum, Art Museum, Mini-Minature Mus., etc. - Tohono Chul Park, The Botanical Gardens - Tucson Symphony, Opera, UA Presents, etc. - rodeo, gem show, etc |
| Ability to take 'micro-vacations' throughout the day and night by just walking outside. The restorative power of natural beauty. Walking and hiking opportunities within Saguaro National Park. |
| Ability to walk and bike easily. Ability to access parks, national parks, hiking and biking trails. Safe trails for us and our children etc |
| Abundance of park areas |
| Access to a park |
| Access to national parks |
| Access to protected, natural areas |
| Access to public lands |
| Access to university/colleges, hospitals, parks, events, lectures, classes, shows, theatre and museums. |
| Accessability to swimming pools. |
| Actually, I think some of the parks could use some upgrades for the heat. Some of the newer parks have shade coverings, splash areas, etc., but so many parks go unused in the summer b/c the equipment is just too hot and there is no way for children (or parents) to cool down. |
| Add more parks and open spaces |
| Add more parks in the city limits |
| Add more year round swimmming pools in Tucson. |
| Additional park/green space |
| All of my family is from back east so I get visitors a few times/year and they stay for more than just a couple of days at a time. I appreciate being able to take them to places like Old Tucson or the Desert Museum, Rockies spring training games, hiking/tram rides at Sabino Canyon, dinner at fun & unique places like Pinnacle Peak, the Blue Line walking tour downtown, etc. We can find fun activities for all ages to keep us busy without having to leave town every time. |
| All of the parks, canyons and community regions |
| Allocate funding to parks, community spaces |
| Austin Texas is a perfect example of how a areas within the city can be set aside so people have endless access to trails and park areas. Of course they also have water. |
| Available outdoor activities (parks desert museum) |
| Beauty of Saguaro National Monument |
| Because I can bring my children to play and it is very clean |
| Because I can meet with family in a peacful park |
| Because it allows for outside engagement of the area we live |
| Because my children have fun and exercise |
| Because my son is two years old and he likes to play in the park |
| Because my whole family could come |
| Because these places provide a location for the children to interact with family outside of their normal environment |
| Because we arrived with our children and family |
| Before moving here, I would often walk for exercise at local parks. In Tucson, I don't feel safe doing this by myself, and the parks are not very beautiful or serene. |
| Besides university ave, there are few roads where cars are prohibited except local traffic. There are not enough bike lanes that connect roads to main destinations like supermarkets, parks, farmers markets, shops etc. |
| Better coordination between schools and parks partnerships |
| Better parks and fields |
| Better sidewalks, they have lots of holes in them, and I want more parks for dogs |
| Better vigilence in the parks |
| Big Parks |
| Bike paths/Greenbelt |
| Breaks up buildings, gives variety to the urban form |
| Build more parks, more community centers, more cultural/arts centers and more sport centers. |
| Can go to Mt Lemmon for pine trees and snow if you like Have the Saguaro Nation Monument |
| Certain areas of town are unsafe. TKenedy Park, the nearest park to my house, is not a place I would let my kids play. |
| Certain neighborhoods are plagued by the smell of sewage. We used to live in a neighborhood like that. Also, a new park for children by the Rillito river walk often smells of sewage. |
| City parks |
| Clean up (remove weeds, trash) keep mountain views and open areas, parks a priority |
| Cleaner parks |
| Close to Freedom Parks for other activities |
| Combine city and county parks |
| Common courtesy/country like hospitality/casual living/slower paced/people friendly/SW attitude vs east or west coast/embraces Mexican Culture and other cultures/lots of liberals/UA and Pima/Good libraries and parks/ |
| Community parks |
| Commutes are long, waste gas. Sun tran is inefficient with empty buses. Portland model would be good to look at re - smaller buses. cross town freeway does need to be invested in but the neighborhood groups (see above) prevent that. RTA is a farce despite community involvement. e.g. why is houghton going to be a four lane road instead of a freeway/state route? opportune time to pick up the land on either side of the arterial (federal and private) and build a freeway. Think forward not present time. As for mass transist eg. trains, subway, light rail Tucson does not have the population to support that need but that should not prevent the city from long range planning e.g. rezoning land, build parks where depots will be, for the eventuality of that need |
| Completion of River Park system |
| Cools the city (mitigates effects of urban heat island) |
| Create more parks which are linked together. |
| Create more parks with more trees and walking paths |
| Cycling/outdoor trails and parks |
| Desert Museum, Saguaro National Park, and many nature walks. Wingspan events, theater, lovely libraries, friendly librarians, Parks and Rec opportunities. |
| Does anyone go to the Santa Cruz River 'Park'? It is so desolate. I rarely see walkers or bikers there. When we get big rains in the summer, people come out in droves to the river beds that have significant water in them. San Antonio made the River Walk with a canal system. Indianapolis recently did, too. We can get some of those intelligent, energetic, creative people to come up with a way to do that here with reclaimed water...tourists, restaurants, recreation and other activities that make money and provide quality of life follow water. |
| Don't want to have to drive for miles to get to shaded parks accessible |
| Draw people in .. encourage activity ... |
| Each month, all the parks should host family celebrations to honor 'togetherness' with free activities and drinks |
| Easy to get out of town to see the public lands |
| Empower people places animals and things to beautify and enhance our beautiful barrio's along the santa cruz river. |
| Environment- natural wonderful settings for wellness (hiking, biking, rock climbing, trail system, regional/state parks) |
| Exercise can only become a part of someone's life if it is fun for them. There are a handful of excellent parks with many fun choices, but I feel that more would be better. |
| Federal lands means access for all income levels |
| For the kids |
| Fortunate to have national parks |
| Free parks like Brandi Fenton |
| Fund/improve performing art facilities and parks |
| Funding continues to be cut by the state, the county and the city. Parks are well utilized and a tremendous ammenity for our community. To continue to cut funding will impact the quality of life for citizens. |
| Give Parks and Recreation enough money to provide needed services. |
| Good choices - desert, forest, skiing |
| Good for wildlife |
| Good integration of natural environment with urban environment Rillito River Park |
| Good parks and music opportunities |
| Good way to meet people and socialize |
| Great for raising children - the width of the streets allows for easier passing in your lanes, more sidewalks allow easier access to parks to & quiet small, unique neighborhoods! |
| Green parks and schoolyards |
| Green spaces/parks |
| Grocery stores, churches, parks, schools, are close to my house |
| Having children, I enjoy the 'small town' aspect of our city, the parks, the people and the laid back feel of the community. |
| Having some parks |
| Here in Oro Valley, there is no senior center, few public tennis courts, no public golf course that I know of, dearth of parks. We shouldn't rely on the private sector to provide these things, as many people cannot afford the fees and memberships that are required. |
| Hiking clubs, parks, Sabino, etc. |
| Hiking trails Intimate garden settings - TBG, Tohono Chul, AZ Inn, etc Diversity of mtns, birds & wildlife Golfing opportunities I can be outside every day here |
| Historic neighborhoods, small locally owned businesses and lots of parks |
| I appreciate the familiar places like the parks and malls |
| I enjoy bicycling, hiking, camping, fishing, site seeing. Lots of new bike paths have been paved and many more on the way! Sabino Canyon, Madera Canyon, Reddington Pass, Mt. Lemmon, Pima Canyon, Catalina State Park, Biosphere, San Xavier Mission, and all the other historical landmarks in downtown. El Tour de Tucson, Tour of the Tucson Mts. |
| I enjoy that park because it is close and not too big. Can enjoy it in a morning. |
| I enjoy the hiking, mountains, parks and Sabino Canyon. |
| I get to spend time with my daughters |
| I go the park with my children |
| I grew up in a rural area and I still look to the plants and animals, the sky and weather to shape my day. I love seeing plants, lizards, birds, and other natural entities as I go about my day. I work downtown and enjoy the park in front of city hall, the trees that are planted along the sidewalks. Knowing that our community values open space and living with then environment makes me feel good. |
| I have a dog that I take to the dog park when I am in Tucson |
| I have always loved nature and valued unbuilt landscapes -- what we used to call 'the country' where I grew up. I like knowing that there are still some wild places nearby that still have mountain lions, bighorn sheep (much less of those), bears, and many other animals and plants that require wildlands. And I like to be able to get to those wildlands for hiking and camping as easily as I can here -- it takes me less than an hour to drive to Saguaro National Park West or East or to the Catalinas or Rincons. |
| I have always loved the outdoors and the natural beauty. I am an artist/photographer and get out there as often as the rest of my life lets me. It brings peace and personal rejuvenation to me My Favorite places: Arizona Sonora Desert Museum, Tucson Botanical Gardens, Tohono Chul Park, Arthur Pack Regional Park (I hope we can preserve pockets of natural desert like the SW side of this!), Catalina State Park, Sabino Canyon, Mt. Lemmon, Saguaro National Park E and W, San Xavier Mission, Madera Canyon, Birding Areas in SE AZ. |
| I have children and a dog and we like to go for walks and bike rides to parks |
| I have easy access to a major National Park and similar protected natural areas. |
| I have six children and they all have fun here |
| I have spent any years trying to make things better thru addressing issues such as creating Catalina State Park. |
| I like Madera Canyon, Mt Lemmon. It is nice to have recreational sites like these with grills, trails, restrooms etc. I like the man made lakes. Recreation is a healthy part of a person/family life. |
| I like Sabino Canyon and the natural scenes of Tucson |
| I like being able to drive 15 minutes and be in the National Park and enjoy nature. The hiking here is excellent as well as the wild life and migratory birds. |
| I like parks |
| I like the dog parks in Tucson |
| I like the many parks, the zoo, tuscon botanical gardens, and many other places available for minimal to no fees! |
| I like the parks and the traditions |
| I like to use public lands. I like being able to drive to beautiful places in public lands. I like that I don't have to pretend to like SKA music and Indie bands. People here are proud and respectful, for the most part. |
| I live in Tucson itself. The city provides lots of benefits to people in the outlying areas, but all the shopping that gets done in those areas doesn't provide sale tax revenue to the city -- which needs the revenue. I'm sad to see the demise of shopping downtown and the long slow slide of El Con Mall. Although I'm not a fan of Walmart, I'm glad to see that El Con has some big-box stores that are bringing sales tax revenue to the city -- and that also provide shopping opportunities to the lower-income neighborhoods south of Reid Park. One of the ideas that the city turned down years ago was to have a multiplex movie theatre downtown. I can't remember what building -- was it an old federal building? Towns that have done that -- Santa Cruz, Ft. Worth -- have seen that help downtown areas, because people then eat out downtown, maybe shop in stores that are open late. Don't populate the downtown with chain stores, though. |
| I live near the Rillito river walk which is a quiet place to walk, but also a wonderful community of people who we see regularly. |
| I live next to the monument and I enjoy the wildlife in my back yard. |
| I love national parks and am happy to be near a couple of them. The diversity from the desert to the mountains makes it a fun place to explore |
| I love that everywhere I go in this city, someone is promoting a green living idea, or getting up into the mountains, or Saguaro National Park. People here really appreciate the desert and the surrounding mountains. |
| I love the beauty and ecological diversity represented in the Sonoran desert. Being able to see wild spaces within the city and county boundaries in natural parks, green spaces and wildlife corridors makes the Tucson area and region feel a part of the Sonoran desert rather than an intrusion upon it. |
| I love the ease with which it is easy to get to the WILD outdoors here, for all levels of fitness. Sabino Canyon is easy, as are some trails in Saguaro National Monument, but the Finger Rock trail and others are harder. PRESERVE THE DESERT, and the approaches to places like Sabino Canyon. |
| I love the mountains, the Sonoran Desert plants and wildlife, and the dark skies. I can easily escape the city for a natural getaway, with parks all around. |
| I love the public art on bridges and along the river parks, the galleries, and funky music scene. Second Saturdays has been a wonderful new tradition that I hope lasts! |
| I love to hike in the mountains and the various parks surrounding Tucson. |
| I see so many vacant lots that get turned into apts. or parking lots. Why not find all these little lots and make pocket parks. People can sit in shady areas, walk their dogs, meet their neighbors, have a small garden plot to plant veggies. These could be gathering places as well as green areas to enhance the ambiance of neighborhoods. They don't have to be large. In Japan they are stuck everywhere in Tokyo, which is incredible crowded, but the neighborhoods have as much green as possible. |
| I see this happening in Phoenix area. Schools are adjacent to parks so that there is not a duplication of water resources. Schools can use facilities during school year. I am very worried about water in our desert. I see also that Phoenix area requires large construction projects to have areas for water to drain into the soil. Every apartment , housing project, mall has large green drainage areas to offset the concret paving and buildings. |
| I spent summers in Mpls/ St. Paul and saw what parks can do for neighborhoods. There is a park about every two to four blocks in St. Paul. Wonderful! Kids ride bikes and play after school and every evening. In summer moms with toddlers go there. |
| I think so much can be done in Tucson, but our leaders seem to waste so much money planning and replanning and figuring out how to come up with the best plan that makes everyone in the community happy, when really not everyone is happy. Just small interest groups that always have the county's and city's ear are happy. Good leadership will truly create jobs and a better community, because they can make decisions that will help the community grow in a sustainable way. And sustainable does not mean in a way that is just environmentally friendly. It is a way that brings economic stability (jobs), and social stability (places to go like professional sporting events, parks, and places to eat). The leaders in the community are great at saying no to or messing up things that would bring economic and social stability, while at the same time of only focusing in on the environmental side of sustainability. We need good leaders that can act for Tucson, not for the special interest groups. |
| I think that it crucial that Tucson does not build into our national parks and preserves Tucson's natural beauty. The weather is so great here that being outside is so appealing and it is so important that we have beautiful, clean, and fun parks/facilities to enjoy the outside. I also think that this attracts tourism. |
| I think the park system is very good and hope it will continue to improve |
| I thoroughly enjoy being outside and I know that it is important that everyone has access to fresh air in a safe place. Tucson is woefully deficient in park land. Connecting the linear parks along all our waterways is a big step. |
| I would love to see more field space and parks for the kids to play at. Mostly field space, seems like everyone is always fighting over space to play the games. Kids need there sporst and should have a local hometown place to play |
| I would put more toilets at the county/city parks |
| I'd like to see more natural desert parks in the urban area |
| If there is one thing I miss from Ohio (other than real tomatoes!) it's being able to walk amongst the trees to take me to another place. I don't need the fall of leaves, I miss the sound of the leaves and the ability to get lost in the forest. |
| If there were bathrooms, I wouldn't have to come all the way home to use the bathroom. Too many transients in the park |
| Improve city parks wild / natural spaces |
| Improved access to parks and libraries |
| In all the local parks I've visited, all have been well laid out, clean and provide what I feel to be a safe place for me to exercise outdoors. The people I encounter also add to the experience. |
| In my appartment some people walk their dog in the areas where my son plays |
| In times of economic hardship it would be nice to know my loved ones can at least enjoy time at the park without worry of harm by vagrants or illegal activities |
| In-town park system (including pocket parks) |
| Inaccessible between S/W and N/E kids, more community programs there and not bad neighborhoods. Get them out of the poverty trap |
| Increase funding and staff levels for Tucson Pima Parks and Recreation. |
| Increase funding for parks, park development, improvements, operations |
| Increase number of parks |
| Increases property values |
| It has open spaces, large old neighborhoods and parks throughout the city. It is not Phoenix. |
| It spills into everything else - parks, culture, libraries |
| It's easy to access the outdoors with hiking trails, sports facilities, parks. |
| It's nice to have it near but it's inconvenient because there are no bathrooms in the park |
| Its Recreational parks and lakes |
| Keep building parks and open spaces as the city grows |
| Keep the public schools in use for community parks, wellness centers, recreations and adult education. Don't lose those important properties! |
| Kennedy Park is a 10 minute drive from my house. There is where for kids to go that is outdoors. |
| Kids are playing there and they will get diseases |
| Lack of interior parks space |
| Lack of local park. |
| Lack of parks (with shade) in outlying areas in the county |
| Lack of parks in certain areas |
| Lack of parks or community gathering places. |
| Lack of parks/rec facilities and activities |
| Lack of social services: We have a large transient population - people need resources in order to be helped. Our parks are a good example. Water management: we are a desert and I see many, many golf courses. Need I say more? |
| Landmarks like the Desert Museum, DeGracia Gallery in the Sun, A Mountain, Tucson Museum of Art, Miniatures Museum, Sahuaro National Forest, and the observatories and museums on the U of A campus are great places for citizens and visitors of this city to experience. |
| Law enforcement needs to be more info for the public when it comes to sex offenders the move into our neighborhoods. More parks need free family opportunities |
| Lets face it there are too many in our parks and on the streets |
| Local parks and recreation |
| Lots of open space - horseriding/biking (close to the city) national parks close to the city (it's a tourist attraction) |
| Mental and physical well-being of residents |
| More action on the river parks |
| More activities in the parks |
| More chances to exercise |
| More city and neighborhood parks. Maybe we could get some grants. |
| More developed park space (plenty of open acres, need more fields) |
| More inner city parks and recreation |
| More lakes and parks |
| More land set aside for public use. |
| More linear parks linking the whole city |
| More naturally beautiful parks in the city |
| More neighborhood parks |
| More neighborhood parks and gardens. |
| More opportunity for water recharge (pervious surfaces) |
| More parks |
| More parks - nicer parks in city - no drugs |
| More parks and activities for our families and children |
| More parks and green belt |
| More parks and greenspace. |
| More parks and open areas would allow for more exercise for children and bonding between families |
| More parks and people friendly places to walk/run/bike |
| More parks in the city |
| More parks so children can have a place to play |
| More parks to play and hang out |
| More parks, exercise and bike paths in all parts of town |
| More parks/open spaces |
| More parks/recreation |
| More pocket parks and community gardens. |
| More public parks |
| More public parks with pools, less private pools will save water |
| More recreational areas |
| More recreational space, parks, pools, paths, equestrian |
| More running/cycling trails and parks |
| More water parks besides Breakers |
| More/better equipped parks and city sports leagues |
| Most of the TUSD schools, and public parks, have been fitted with the newer style of playground equipment. This is the safer option, but due to heavy use & sun exposure the equipment, slides specifically, crack & become dangerous. I'd like to see these kept in better repair. The PTAs & PTOs should be encouraged to raise money, hopefully subsidised by the city or even a greant, to help get shade screens for each jungle gym on the property. This would help extend the life of the equipment. But also important would be the repair/replacement of the cracked or broken equipment. |
| Mountains and parks |
| Mountains and parks all around |
| Museums, special parks, gardens, events |
| My wife doesn't like to hike because there are no restroom facilities at many of the trailheads |
| National Forest |
| National Forests and Parks are close. |
| National Park, Desert Museum, Catalina SP, Tohono chul. |
| National Parks |
| National forest/mountains, open space surrounding Tucson |
| National parks have the strongest conservation mandate of all public lands. The value of protected resources like the Rincon and Tucson mountain districts cannot be measured in dollars. |
| National/Local Parks |
| Natural areas and parks |
| Nearness to Saguaro National Park, state parks, surrounding desert, opportunities for outdoor activities. |
| Need for regional government recreation, parks, education planning |
| Need more local parks |
| Need more parks downtown |
| Need shade for year round use (e.g., Brandi Fenton Park) |
| Need signage - parking and street names on river path - River Park no good signage |
| Need to coordinate park development with schools. |
| No freeway or highway to the East side, more parks |
| No major concentration of high rises, small downtown area. Parks and trails galore. |
| Not so much parks, but neighborhood schoolyards are dead and not pleasant to play with your kids on. |
| Number of city parks and the university |
| Numerous parks, preserves and other open areas to enjoy. |
| Oct-April Weather, Mountain Ranges, Clear Night Skies, Sahuaro National Park |
| Okay, maybe this seems superficial, but I don't think it is: what is up with letting our streets, sidewalks and medians look like trash heaps? That says, in symbolism hard to miss, 'we are a trashy city.' What's up with spending money to design nice roads and medians, like River Road, and then letting them go to seed for two years before cleaning them up? Phoenix manages to have beautiful streets. I'm not suggesting the water waste of grassy medians and sidewalk landscaping like Scottsdale, but couldn't we manage some basic desert landscaping that's decently taken care of--the trash picked up (or not thrown out in the first place), and the weeds removed? Couldn't we make a push for keeping our streets and public places free of trash? I think this is more important than it seems, both for how we think about ourselves and our community, and what we invite the outside world to think of us. |
| Once again, DIVERSITY! We have the harshest, most inhospitable, yet beautiful native habitat. Yet within a short distance, a pine forest, coastal region etc. . . |
| Open space (national park, national forest, etc.) |
| Open space - parks, bikeways, washes, mountains |
| Open space and recreation - national, state parks, COT parks and trail systems |
| Open space/Parks/Community gardens |
| Open spaces and parks |
| Other than the National Park stuff (which is great), there are not high quality, high volume outdoor family entertainment areas. |
| Out door activities, Senic surrounds (I love watching the mountains throughout the day) and resources like Sabino Canyon, Catalina State Park and, of course, hiking in & around the mountains. |
| Outdoor facilties (i.e. national parks, recreational parks, golf courses, etc.) |
| Outdoor pursuits, biking, hiking, national parks, Mt. Lemmon |
| Outdoor recreation - Mt. Lemmon, parks, desert, trails |
| Outdoor recreation trails and parks |
| PARKS! |
| Park funding |
| Parks |
| Parks & Outdoor Recreation |
| Parks and Mt. Lemmon |
| Parks and athletics access |
| Parks and hiking trails with views |
| Parks and mall |
| Parks and outdoor recreational areas |
| Parks and recreation |
| Parks and recreation facilities |
| Parks and recreation is great, but drops off in the poor areas |
| Parks and schools are hidden inside neighborhoods |
| Parks and university and dm and raytheon, ibm , the mines need to coordinate and share resources. they are not separated from the rest of the community. the community needs to function as a whole. parks should be fee-free and be open to all, and treasured by all |
| Parks are dangerous and hidden from the street - a homeless shelter |
| Parks help heat island effect |
| Parks in Tucson have grass (it's expensive) place to play for kids, soccer. Grass uses water - precious resources, in Oro Valley hiking |
| Parks like the linear river parks provide places for people to get out and enjoy Tucson. |
| Parks on the west side |
| Parks, parks are the gathering place for all ages and classes. Tucson lacks the beaches and rivers which attract so many other people to designated spaces in other cities. If tucson places resources and space towards community enjoyment, the cities overall health and satisfaction would most likely increase with these spaces. |
| Parks, river parks with bike paths, etc. make the city livable and friendly for families. We don't have a single park within walking distance and unfortunately the schools are off limits to neighborhood kids except during school. |
| Parks, trails, smaller lot sizes (Rancho Sahuarita?) |
| Parks/Recreation opportunities |
| Planetarium, River Park |
| Plant only local, low-water plants in any park or lot |
| Plenty of parks and recreation makes for healthy people. |
| Police and firemen should be the #1 priority of the city. Ensuring the public safety should come before any other city responsibility. When the city budget is in trouble, the city threatens us with cutting public safety. This is wrong! Parks, libraries, perks for city employees ... these things should be put on the cutting board instead of our police and firemen. |
| Promotes an active lifestyle |
| Protects the boundaries of the city against sprawl |
| Proximity & accessibility to forest and desert |
| Public lands accessible (mountains, parks, trails, etc.) |
| Public lands are in important part of our family outings, recreation and we see it as an ammenity. |
| Public service such as law enforcement, parks and rec |
| Reid park |
| Right next to my house there is Reid park, a great place to run, swim, golf, or just play. |
| River Parks and Other Outdoor Amenities |
| River parks, especially the Rillito. Sabino Canyon, all mountain ranges around Tucson, lots of nice, wide bike lanes. |
| Sabino Canyon |
| Sabino Canyon, hunting in Willow Springs |
| Saguaro National Park & other public lands |
| Saguaro National Park and Desert Museum |
| Saguaro National Park, Coronado National Forest, county and city natural parks, recreational access and importance of nature preservation |
| Sagurao National Park |
| Santa Cruz River, A-mt., Tomamoc hill |
| Sate Parks, roads, education, medical care, etc. |
| Schools, parks, recreation, public lands, universities, should all share knowlege and resources to support our K-12 system |
| Severe shortage of places for people to congregate, other than parks, that are shady, attractive comfortable for families. |
| Small and large parks important swimming pools |
| So many people use the park every day. Beautiful roses, birds, dog park, gives the community a place to be together. |
| So my children have better places to play |
| So that my children grow up healthy and strong |
| Some don't have parks in their neighborhoods. So how can you encourage kids to go out. Church does have basketball court. City could help neighborhood get a park |
| South Tucson does not have many nice parks, restaurants, doctor offices, condos, apartments, or houses. |
| State Parks |
| State Trust lands are a big part of the landscape that is important to me, and revenue supports the schools. |
| State lands administration |
| Stop buying land build more parks |
| Streets, parks & neighborhoods |
| Surrounding national, state parks and open areas |
| Take family outing |
| Teh desert, the parks and national monuments and parks. The relative ease in which one can travel through town. The fact that I spend so much time of the year outside. |
| That a national park it close to a major metropolitain city. It protects the state's namesake cactus |
| The City of Tucson needs to open more year round pools in different parts of the city. |
| The Desert Museum, Mt Lemmon, Saguaro National Park |
| The Old Barrio's, with parks, native plants |
| The Sagauro Parks |
| The Saguaro National Monuments |
| The Sahuaro national monuments are beautiful peaceful to visit. |
| The Tucson community is surounded by natrual beauty - the mountains, the arroyos, the saguaros and other features. Open space, access to nature, opportunities to enjoy nature - are one of the areas greatest features and needs to be preserved, with access and opportunities expanded. (Closing state parks is not a positive step) |
| The ability to participate in outside recreation for most of the year. Which means we need more parks. |
| The ability to participate in outside recreation is so important yet one has to drive to a park. Link parks with paths using washes. Create an environment where people want to walk or ride their bike to get somewhere. |
| The amount of natural parks |
| The availability of park space for everyone's use |
| The beautiful sonoran desert and parks |
| The beauty that surrounds the area - this must be preserved. There's nothing like getting up and seeing a gorgeous sunrise/sunset in the mountains; or walk to a park where there are native plants/vegetation/flowers. We must maintain areas like this ALL over Tucson and preserve our land! |
| The diverse surrounding environment. Mt. Lemmon, Tucson Mountain Park, Saguaro National Park, Madera Canyon, Sabino Canyon.... |
| The history of the river and surrounding mountains. |
| The local resources, like parks |
| The many parks and rec activities available |
| The mountains and public land; outdoor recreation |
| The national park areas |
| The national park areas allow for people to be active. |
| The number of City of Tucson Swimming Pools. |
| The parks and recreaction facilities and activities |
| The parks, the culture, and the schools |
| The preservation of our native landscape is important to hold the traditions of our Old Pueblo. Please don't sell it off or let people build a hotel in it. |
| The surrounding environment (mountains, parks, trails, etc) |
| The university is only one educational opportunity in Tucson. There are many parks and hiking trails. There are non-profit opportunities that allow sharing of knowledge and there is a large community of elders with wisdom to share. |
| The value of any community goes up exponentially when nature is incorporated into city design. We have irreplaceable natural resources surrounding Tucson: national parks, forests, state parks. But they're not connected! And we don't even provide public transportation to them or between them! |
| The views are amazing here. We have such beautiful sunsets every night, and the mountains are gorgeous. I love it that I can spend time outside year round and that there are many parks and trails. For example, the Rillito River Trail is one of my all time favorite things about my neighborhood. I know if I ever live anywhere else, I will miss that trail. I think Tucson needs to preserve our environmental treasures and really endorse it. |
| The weather, mountains, trails, parks are so awesome. I love seeing people out and about with the family and friends enjoying the outdoors |
| There are areas of the region where parks and libraries are easy to access - but voids in other parts of the region where there are not these services for students and families. |
| There are beautiful outdoor parks to visit. |
| There are many access issues for the disabled which are not enforced locally. Engage the disabled community in discussions about improvements to parks, recreation, transit etc. |
| There are miles of bike lanes for riding, state, city and National parks/forests for exploring. The proximity to and abundance of outdoor activities are the reason I choose to live in Tucson. |
| There are very few parks in the city itself, and it would be wonderful to have more public areas designated as such. |
| There is constantly a demand for lighted soccer/ultimate frisbee fields that Tucson cannot meet. We are trying to stay active as a community, but it's hard when you have to drive to two different fields in one night, for two games. |
| There needs to be more to do on a Saturday afternoon - more museums or large gardens to walk through similar to a park |
| There seems to be a lack of adequate parks in the newer subdivisions. |
| There should be no trash or dirtiness in the park |
| There's plenty to do in a city of this size, including outdoor recreation, parks, plays, music, and resorts. |
| These are very popular facilities that are heavily used. They need to be completed, especially the Craycroft to Tanque Verde segment of the Pantano. |
| These opportunities help keep the community healthy. |
| They don't call it the GREAT OUTDOORS for nothing. Just love having places such as Saguaro National Park or Coronado National Forest so close by. The State and County parks too. |
| This is an outstanding park. It supports our desire for long hikes and wildlife. |
| To go to the parks |
| To have lighting at night and to have better security |
| To improve the parks |
| Tons of parks and trails allow for lots of recreational opportunities. |
| Tourism brings in visitors and new residents. Quality of life - enjoying the parks and nature |
| Traffic control, more large regional parks. Reid and Udall cater to a small portion of the population and a specific demographic |
| Tucson Mountain Park, Catalina State Park, Agua Caliente Natural Resources Park, Mt. Lemmon, etc. |
| Tucson currently has all disadvantages of a large metro area and not many advantages. Leaders better get it together and attract more invest $ to make the urban area more livable. More parks, green spaces, and walkable neighborhoods |
| Tucson is NOT Phoenix and should never hold Phoenix up as a model. The community has a rythmn, a pace, a quality of life. There should be every opportunity sought to expand on improving the quality of life - improve housing, parks, public transportation, bike paths, running paths, connectivity throughout the community. |
| Tucson is a large city but still retains the small community values: neighborhood projects, farmer's markets, strong culture across the city which influences daily life, parks. |
| Tucson needs more places for children and family to spend time outdoors |
| Tucson needs to look to business and the people that live here to clean up their yards, Parks and old historical building. There is such a need to make Tucson look like a clean and beautiful place to live. First impressions are lasting and when you exsist the Interstate and all you see is trash and unkept houses it does not make for a good impression. This is something that a city could have as a compain for schools, business and the citizen of Tucson and it would show the pride that people have for their city. |
| Tucson offers many hiking trail, animal exhibits and zoos. Also, the botanical gardens are very nice. Tohono Chul Park is quaint and informative. |
| Tucsonans value the desert and the environment in general. They recycle, pick up trash, adopt streets, and use the public parks, especially Mount Lemmon. |
| Upkeep of public spaces |
| Urban living with close proximity to public land/wilderness |
| Variety of Public Parks |
| Variety of city parks and National Parks to go to and spend the day. |
| Want bathrooms in the local park |
| Want more opportunities for community places and parks and encourage their use |
| Want to be able to expand places where I run or cycle. |
| Want weather and parks to help motivate youth and children to volunteer and be inspired to something with their life more outdoor activities. Get vision to get this going |
| Want whole park to be open including swimming pools |
| We are nearby many national parks, Native American reservations, wildlife habitats and important sites in American history. |
| We can have fun time |
| We could have some good relaxing time |
| We either need cleaner parks or just more of them. |
| We have a place to go and have fun while we exercise with our families |
| We have accessible wildlife because of our parks and bike paths |
| We have better parks on the east side and the older one just get left behind. |
| We have fabulous recreational opportunities here within a one hour drive - Mt Lemon, Madera Canyon, Sabino Canyon, the Tucson mtns, lots of parks, the river walks, bike paths, Fantasy Island. Its easy to get outside and enjoy the outdoors quickly. |
| We have the Grand Canyon, the Painted Desert, the Petrified Forest, Monument Valley..need I go on? A weekend trip around our state provides so much nature, historical insights and relaxation! |
| We need more parks for kids, families, and all people |
| We need more parks, museums, places to explore, and healthy places to eatwhere children are welcome. |
| We need more parks, safe places for kids/families. If we don't save it now, it will be lost |
| We would all benefit. The river walk is wonderful and could be extended |
| Weather/parks |
| Well maintained parks important |
| What an awesome environment to live in. I love the beauty of the mountains, great parks and recreation areas such as Sabino Canyon and not to mention the awesome sunsets. I've lived across the U.S. but nothing beats Tucson. There's nothing better than walking Sabino Canyon and watching the four seasons of cacti. |
| What has always appealed most to my about Tucson is its proximity to the desert, its relative isolation ('desert island mentality'), and its position as an international gateway. Recent policies in this country have, unfortunately, altered the ease and friendliness of international cooperation and views; however, the fact that Tucson is one hundred miles or more from another urban area, and that much of the land surrounding it is Federal land, open and protected, continues, for me, to be a large draw. |
| When relocation people look at water, schools, parks, and employment |
| Whether it's parks for kids, or senior league baseball, there is something here for everyone. |
| While much needs to be done to improve and maintain the River Parks in the Tucson region. This, I believe, is one of its best resources. Public safety and access could be improved to make these areas more desirable by citizens. |
| While there are some great parks for kids around Tucson, when looking at field usage for sports (which can be vital to youth development in a variety of areas), Tucson is lacking. The costs to use the fields goes up and makes participating in healthy outdoor activities/sports for youth more challenging which in turn depletes these programs and makes Tucson less appealing... |
| Wide roads and open spaces (keep them!) with good city/county/state parks |
| With such beautiful weather in southern Arizona, we have the luxury of being able to spend time outside no matter the time of year. Activities such as hiking, biking, running, golf, etc. Even a stroll at the park is nice in any season. |
| With the decrease in activities at schools it is becoming more important to provide an outlet and space to play and relax in a safe environment. |
| Wonderful hiking and biking trails. Sabino Canyon, Saguaro Nat'l Monument, Rincon's and Catalina's and Santa Rita's |
| You can do a lot with a park, a lot of activities. A nice and free thing to do. |
| You can go to parks and hike within minutes of downtown |
| You have 5 reasons why it will work. A-mt Santa Cruz River Freeway Downtown History |
