IGTIGT Phase I Summary Statements - Draft 2/18/11

Summary Number: 53

Preserve and celebrate the region’s unique and beautiful natural environment

"I love the ease with which it is easy to get to the WILD outdoors here, for all levels of fitness. Sabino Canyon is easy, as are some trails in Saguaro National Monument, but the Finger Rock trail and others are harder. PRESERVE THE DESERT, and the approaches to places like Sabino Canyon."
"I like that when I am in the city I can look in any direction and see a beautiful mountain range. I am also proud of the fact that the County (and other local jurisdictions) has made preserving open space a priority and I hope that never changes."
"The natural environment makes Tucson a sacred place to live."
"Stop chewing up the desert to build houses - rebuild old neighborhoods make them more desirable."
"I think that it crucial that Tucson does not build into our national parks and preserves Tucson's natural beauty. The weather is so great here that being outside is so appealing and it is so important that we have beautiful, clean, and fun parks/facilities to enjoy the outside. I also think that this attracts tourism."
"Tucson is a great place to bring people visiting Arizona for the first time because it seems to have more natural beauty than Phoenix. And who doesn't love Tucson sunsets?"
"Promote greater density within the built region and stop destroying the desert. The desert is why we came, why destroy it? Growth controls like Portland."
"Smart land use means we can maintain open spaces."
"I like the Sonoran Desert –Nature."
"I like the undeveloped Sonoran desert and Sky Islands."
"Without the mountains and desert, we're Lubbock."
"Helps give me a sense of identification, place."
"This is a unique and interesting biological and geographical region. The landscape and bioscape is what makes living here worthwhile."
