Imagine Greater Tucson 2010-11 Phase I Community Conversation and Survey Statements Related to Ease of cross-town and regional traffic movement |
| 1:you dont need to have a car to go anywhere, save money; 2:protecting the environment. |
| 1st Ave between Broadway and River (too much traffic) |
| A city this size should have better highway access - the failure to construct a cross-town freeway was and is a major drawback to fully living in the Tucson Metropolitan area. In addition, the roads are not well maintained and this compounds the problem with getting anywhere in Tucson. |
| A crosstown freeway would greatly enhance people's lifestyle. I commute over an hour/day which could be cut to half of that with non-surface street routing. |
| A few years ago, there were three or four traffic lanes in each direction (Congress-Broadway); now there are only two. |
| A highway or free-way loop around the city, to make it easier to get around. |
| A highway through town - traffic |
| A long line of cars at 5:30 on many major roads just causes more pollution. We have fairly clean air now; let's keep it that way |
| A major road, similar to Baraza Parkway running from North Tucson across town to Eas/Southeast Tucson |
| A quick way to get to Phoenix since not to many planes come or go in Tucson. |
| A transit system like the rail in Phoenix... It would cut down on traffic. It would serve people better than the freeway. |
| Aa city this size should have more freeways to get you across the city and avoid neighborhood travel. |
| Ability to get around to accomplish the things I need to do without undue crowds, congested traffic (although it is getting worse) and the reasonable amount of time and gas to get things done. |
| Access to major highways / travel |
| Access to services transit, rural road maintenance |
| Access to services, to recreation, to educational institutions - should all be a high value. SunTrans is not the ONLY solution. Investments should be committed to mutliple forms of public transportation that reduces conjestion on our streets |
| Add a highway on the east side of town, or a street that does not have traffic lights every few blocks. This is no efficient/fast way to go from SE to NE tucson. |
| Add a highway traveling East to West or viceversa |
| Add a traffic highway belt. |
| Add additional loops to minimize travel time around the area. |
| Add another freeway |
| Add cross-town freeway |
| Adequate infrastructure will reduce pollution and traffic jams; it is essential to creating an adequate transit system for people without cars. |
| After a visit to either the east or west coasts, I always appreciate the ease of driving around Tucson. |
| Air pollution, noise, and traffic congestion will increasingly impact livability in the urban cores as population grows, if we don't change the transport model. This pushes higher income residents and employment to the periphery and leads to core blight. Reducing petroleum energy use is a national need. |
| Air pollution, traffic congestion decreases quality of life. We need a long-range plan. |
| Airport connections to other cities |
| All big/ugly fast roads/ (drawing of sign and 6 cars) (too many) |
| All the traffic lights make it longer to drive |
| Allocate more money into road improvement |
| Allow people to move about the community more easily for both work and cultural activities and ease traffic congestion for everyone. Lack of transit makes too many people car dependent and is isolating and harmful to the natural beauty of the area. |
| Along the same line as sprawl, but the connectivity in the area is really poor. The city seems very divided regionally. People really don't like to venture beyond their areas of town because it is such a pain to navigate. |
| Although I no longer drive I see how dangerous our streets have become since I first moved here. Something needs to be done before we have gridlock. |
| Although Tucson is not a huge city, it is expanding quickly. I feel like our city is being reactive to traffic problems and growth, not being proactive and building the roads and highways before a problem becomes apparent. |
| Although we do not have major traffic congestion, for a community so relatively small, it takes a very long time to travel across town |
| Although we don't really have a freeway system, the traffic is easily manageable. Doesn't take too long to drive from one side of town to the other. |
| Amazed how long it takes to get from A to B here as compared to other cities - say Dallas |
| An easier crosstown commute |
| An east-west freeway |
| As Tucson expands to the Northwest and Southeast, it is becoming more of a task to get places. A more accessible freeway or a loop of some sort around the core of the city would be greatly beneficial |
| As a Los Angeles native no congestion on the reoade. Pleople complain here they have nothing to complain about |
| As a mobility impaired person, weather has always been important to my ability to get around. |
| As community continues to grow and we look towards future. If there is not a better traffic flow I feel the community will start to feel more disjointed and not a cohesive community |
| As quick as the commute is, it can be really long depending on the part of town you are in. |
| As strange as it may seem, I have found that Tucson has one of the better managed traffic flows I have ever seen. Again given all that other places - cities, towns, etc - I have lived. |
| At first I only though of auto and still would like to see a parkway, but now I'm interested to see effective mass transit too. It's going to be tough, with the geography we cover |
| Avoid being delayed by transportation bottlenecks |
| Being able to travel throughout the community, especially to healthcare facilities and physician offices is important to my health status. |
| Besides university ave, there are few roads where cars are prohibited except local traffic. There are not enough bike lanes that connect roads to main destinations like supermarkets, parks, farmers markets, shops etc. |
| Better across town routes. |
| Better and easier travel from west to east |
| Better city streets/transportation - pot holes and lights |
| Better cross town traffic system |
| Better cross town transportation and airport acess |
| Better crosstown traffic |
| Better east/west thoroughfare |
| Better mass transit - less traffic and more use of public transit |
| Better roads and more |
| Better roads and transit |
| Better traffic control |
| Better traffic control (violaters fined) |
| Better traffic flow |
| Better traffic laws |
| Better traffic management |
| Better traffic management - timing of lights - not linked to lights (e.g. Crosswalks on Euclid by U of A = dangerous) - buses not stopping on main streets blocking traffic |
| Better trafficv flow |
| Better transportation makes for an easier lifestyle |
| Better transportation will reduce congestion and commute time |
| Both allow for more personal time away from commute investment |
| Brings more people and traffic to local businesses |
| Build a dang east/west freeway! |
| Build a freeway to take some of the traffic off the roads. |
| Build byways to improve the flow of city-street traffic. Rush hour is horrific, trying to make it from one end of Tucson to the other. |
| Build crosstown expressways for better traffic flow |
| Building new freeways is NOT the answer. Light rail is a far better option. I have traveled to other cities that use light rail transport and it WORKS. We need to reduce the congestion and number of cars on the roads, not sell more cars. A light rail transit system, with satellite parking lots and connections to existing bus lines is very important for our air quality and our future. |
| Buses, perhaps even rail access would better improve traffic in the area if routes were accessible to the greater Tucson area and provided enough times to accomodate multiple business commuters. |
| Byways / Traffic |
| Can get around metro area without too much difficulty |
| Can save time |
| Can we get a beltway or some other means of going from the east side of town to the west without driving on normal, crowded city streets? |
| Can wear whatever you want to opera, symphony, theatre, concerts etc. Used to be courteous drivers and people in lines Easy and close access to wildness/ wilderness/ wildlife corredors/washes etc. Wasn't like Phoenix and other metropolises. |
| Cannot get across town without it being a headache. |
| Car traffic is a waste of time and resources |
| Cars around here don't always stop when the lights are red. It is very dangerous when trying to cross the street |
| Cars increase commute times |
| Cars, traffic, and crazy drivers |
| Certain major thoroughfares have stop lights or crossing lights every block which unnecessarily impedes traffic flow. Synchronizing the lights so traffic can move smoothly would be really nice and would ease congestion. In addition, enforce the speed limits, particularly when a driver is going considerably below the posted limit |
| Change the car culture |
| Chop down plants blocking views of oncoming traffic. These are in the median on Mission Road between W. 36th Street and Ajo Way. |
| Coming from Dallas, highways made a vast improvement on getting from place to place, even with congestion during rush hour. North and East Tucson desperately need some option for faster transportation as the areas continue to develop. Other options, such as buses, would be welcome as well. |
| Coming from Los Angeles, I appreciate the fact that simple things, like driving, parking, shopping, etc., do not add up to be negative experiences, but rather neutral ones. |
| Coming from a big city, I like that there's only traffic before/after work & on the weekends, as opposed to traffic 24/7. |
| Community more accessible |
| Communuting in Tucson from work to home is only 15 to 20 minutes away. |
| Commute |
| Commutes are lengthy and tedious through the city |
| Commutes are long, waste gas. Sun tran is inefficient with empty buses. Portland model would be good to look at re - smaller buses. cross town freeway does need to be invested in but the neighborhood groups (see above) prevent that. RTA is a farce despite community involvement. e.g. why is houghton going to be a four lane road instead of a freeway/state route? opportune time to pick up the land on either side of the arterial (federal and private) and build a freeway. Think forward not present time. As for mass transist eg. trains, subway, light rail Tucson does not have the population to support that need but that should not prevent the city from long range planning e.g. rezoning land, build parks where depots will be, for the eventuality of that need |
| Commutes from the East Side to downtown are very long and this stops people from checking things out. I don't think freeways are the answer though. However a series of grade-separated intersections along the broadway corridor would eliminate stop and go travel without the cost and damage a crosstown freeway would. Light-rail along Broadway would be nice too. |
| Commuting |
| Commuting to work is a pretty rough ride down Grant. Add bus cut outs for all bus stops. |
| Compact development- get places quickly |
| Compared to east coast cities Tucson is a nightmare to get around by public transportation. I often help to coordinate small conferences in Tucson - one of the largest complaints from our attendees is that they can't get around the city. I have to agree. |
| Compared to the other places I have lived, Tucson has by far the worst traffic infrastructure. While its predictable getting from place to place, all the stop lights are frustrating. |
| Congested roads lead to lost time and accidents |
| Congested roadways |
| Congestion |
| Congestion at intersections is growing worse and driving away potential businesses from relocating to Tucson |
| Consider "real" traffic laws (example: U-turns in intersections) |
| Consider Ina / River to be thoroughfares without stops. NOT, I repeat, NOT in the vain of the road to nowhere (aka Aviation Corridor) |
| Contributes to small town mentality |
| Control the traffic. Need usable public transportation |
| Convenience and pollution. Roads are more and more crowded. There is little ease in getting from one side of town to the other. Also, there is little apparent thought about making Tucson pedestrian-friendly. With the climate we have, sidewalks should encourage walking, not being so narrow and unattractive. |
| Convenience is very much of personal importance to me. I do not like to commute, therefore I live where it is convenient for me to do the things I like to do in Tucson. |
| Convenient transportation - traffic/congestion, off-ramps, easier access from W to E |
| Coordinate road construction projects. |
| Coordinate traffic lights |
| Coordinate traffic signals |
| Create a small freeway or highway to easily travel to the different parts of the city. |
| Create better traffic systems and repair the roads |
| Create more pullouts to get buses out of traffic |
| Creates serious barriers for people without cars to obtain services not to mention the environmental impact. |
| Creating and building efficient public transit is key to reducing the carbon footprint of Tucson. Improved public transportation can reduce the clog of traffic in our streets and reduce the consumption of oil. A light rail between here and Phoenix is a necessity to propel us into the future and help turn Arizona into the state to emulate. |
| Cross city transportation (i.e expressway, freeway) |
| Cross town 'spoke' so people can use ALL of the stores and businesses |
| Cross town access |
| Cross town and up and down the county need probably a light rail rail system for environmental as well as practical consideration |
| Cross town commuter rail. How could Phoenix beat us on this one. We also need a rail to Phoenix! |
| Cross town freeway |
| Cross town freeway is needed. |
| Cross town highways |
| Cross town traffic |
| Cross town traffic access. |
| Cross town traffic flow needs to be better planned, more public transportation |
| Cross town traffic flow. |
| Cross town transportation |
| Cross town Tucson to Phoenix |
| Cross-town transportation corridors need improvement |
| Crosstown freeway and better streets |
| Crosstown freeway for efficiency, in order to alleviate congestion on arterials |
| Currently it's difficult to travel cross town. A beltway around the city would be nice. |
| Cutting down on traffic will reduce potholes and maintenance costs |
| Daily excursion timing was determined by rush hour traffic patterns. |
| Decrease mid-day traffic |
| Delays |
| Density makes it difficult to move distances |
| Development in outlying areas would be better planned. Infill would be required before sprawl. Fewer vacant and abandon buildings and weed-ridden vacant lots. Less surface-road travel distance and more efficient roads to and from city center. |
| Difficult and time consuming to get around |
| Difficult and time consuming to get around town. |
| Difficult for kids without cars to get places |
| Difficult to get around town. Bad for the environment. Students should be required to ride school buses, only in special circumstances should parents drive them to school. |
| Difficulty commuting through the city |
| Difficulty in getting around (roads, traffic) |
| Diverse things to do. Easy to get around |
| Do more road work at night |
| Don't like driving to Phoenix |
| Dont clog up the streets with speacial activities |
| Downtown Tucson is far from my house and parking is always a hassle. |
| Downtown traffic flow |
| Downtowns can be congested; overly busy; difficult to get around, and dangerous in some areas. |
| Drive across town everyday for work |
| Drivers - slow commute; not good drivers |
| Driving (streets/traffic flow) Less potholes, better transportation to NE side |
| Driving affects the environment |
| Driving all over the area, it doesn't take much time to become impatient with the 'stop and go' traffic signal system. maybe it's time to try the old syncronized system again. one ways didn't solve the problem. there must be some contemporary regulatory process that will work. |
| Driving conditions |
| Driving in Tucson is not so hard. Tucson is spread a lot, but most of the things are in the central area, so it's easy to access. |
| Driving is a very important part of moving around Tucson, whether by bus, car, bike, or otherwise |
| Driving is easier in a small town. I grew up in Sierra Vista and like Tucson for the variety of options available for entertainment and education. |
| Driving to any destination in Tucson now requires running into construction. There is too much traffic during the day so maybe do road construction at night |
| Driving to work there is a lot of gridlocks from the pedestrians and buses. Don't have have safe above traffic crosswalks, lots of accidents are constantly occurring for mid-traffic crosswalks |
| Driving, traffic & time. |
| Due to limited freeway system, I don't go to a lot of parts of the town just because it will take 45 minutes to an hour to get there. Even though it is only 15 to 20 miles away. Please no more stoplights! =( |
| During the months from October through May are routes are maxed out. |
| During the week it would take me almost twice as long to get to work as it does on weekends becuase there is no flow to the traffic and roads are antique |
| EASY ACCESS, EFFICIENT AND AESTHETICALLY PLEASING |
| EASY COMMUTATION FOR WORK |
| EASY TO GET AROUND |
| Ease in reachingnortheast destinations |
| Ease of City travel |
| Ease of Travel |
| Ease of access; no congestion like other big cities |
| Ease of commute and transportation from one end of the city to the other |
| Ease of getting around the city, especially downtown, casual lifestyle and clothing, cultural diversity of Tucson |
| Ease of getting around town |
| Ease of getting around. |
| Ease of getting to events |
| Ease of movement for many people and unclog crowded main streets. |
| Ease of navigation/transportation |
| Ease of transportation |
| Ease of travel |
| Ease of travel. |
| Easier access driving across town |
| Easier connection from west to east |
| Easier cross city traffic |
| Easier travel/commute |
| Easier traveling at peak traffic times |
| East West travel |
| East west thoroughfare |
| East/West transportation (drawing of a road) - need a faster route |
| East/west transportation - need faster option |
| Easy access to all my shopping needs, traffic is not tht bad |
| Easy access to most points of interest |
| Easy access to river bed, parks, mountains |
| Easy access to the freeway |
| Easy navigation |
| Easy to get around |
| Easy to get around and accomplish things without being hindered by excessive rain, snow, etc. |
| Easy to get around on bike |
| Easy to get to events around town - airport is very easy to navigate. |
| Easy to het to Tucson - good priced flights - nice highway access |
| Easy to live here - minimal traffic for city this size |
| Easy to navigate |
| Easy. No traffic. |
| Efficient public transportation would encourage more people to use it and help with pollution and traffic issues thru out the city. |
| Establish inner belts for traffic |
| Even in the city - traffic moves very well |
| Even though we have met the million mark with our population, it still feels like a small town. I love that our streets are big enough to drive on - compared to NY where the streets are so narrow. I love that we are not perfect, but we are better than most in comparison. |
| Ever try to go on Broadway or Congress in rush hour? |
| Everyone I know that doesn't live downtown doesn't bother to get downtown. It's a pain to drive, find parking and then pay for parking. It would be nice to have an effective 'park and ride' system tied in with mass transit to make traveling into the downtown area more accessible. If this is readily available, making this information available would be helpful. |
| Except for Morning/Evening traffic- traffic is not as bad as Phx |
| Explanation is self-evident, try driving across town during rush hour. |
| Extremely poor growth planning, no decent cross routes |
| Fairly easy to get around compared to a lot of cities |
| Faster transportation |
| Feel like I can take a day trip to many destinations in the West from here |
| Feel this would save fuel - less stop and go lights |
| Fewer cars on the road - more appeal of public transportation |
| Fewer traffic delays |
| Find solution to traffic flow problems |
| Finish the road widing projects. |
| First off, we need a light rail system along the most obvious corridors (Oracle, Grant, Speedway, Broadway, 22nd, South 6th). We also need a good bus system, where buses make stops at least every quarter of an hour. Further, we need a good bike-path system where there are obvious corridors across town and where there are bike paths separated from automobile traffic. |
| Fix the traffic bottlenecks downtown |
| Fix traffic around town |
| Flat regions are boring and hard to navigate. Mountains offer variety and pretty scenery. |
| For a small city it is awfully difficult to get around. |
| For the most part traffic is not a major problem. In my profession (Realtor) getting to and from a property is critical. Want spend time with the client, not in traffic jams |
| For those of us that public transportation does not work for, the next best way to participate is to have synchronized lighting leading up to the freeway entrances to help cut down on the go-stop pollution. |
| For three reasons: (1) traffic is ugly and no one wants to deal with it; (2) environmental concerns; (3) better access to all Tucson has to offer |
| Free Flowing traffic patterns |
| Freeway of express way from one side of town to the other |
| Freeway or limited access express ways |
| Freeway system |
| Freeway to go east and west |
| Freeway: Make building a loop around the North and East sides of our city a priority |
| Freeways |
| Freeways. |
| Ft. Lowell and Grant Road are awful to drive down. |
| Future growth = more people= more traffic |
| Get across town in a reasonable time. |
| Get around town faster. |
| Get rid of the red light cameras. |
| Get rid of traffic cameras |
| Getting around is very easy once you know your way around and the local radio's give you very timely information on what areas of concern to avoid. Wonderful!!! |
| Getting around the metro area is a nightmare, because of no freeways. |
| Getting around town can be a hassle. I prefer not driving East to West if I don't have to. Putting more traffic lights on those roads may have helped with the traffic flow but in reality, it only lowers the number of people that are willing to go across town to shop/search for good restaurant. I personally would like to support the business around the downtown area but getting in, finding parking, and getting out takes outrageously long. Highway, I-10, going towards phoenix has a bottle neck by miracle mile exit, causing bad traffic jam if not accidents. Also, good driving education should be stressed extensively since there are many slow drivers on the left lane of the interstate. |
| Getting around town is becoming murder. 30% of RTA dollars are bor bus riders that account for 3% of people (per RTA when pushing their tax) |
| Getting cars off the road and getting the air cleaner. Less stress, less pollution, easier commuting. |
| Getting from the Eastside to the Northwest is too difficult and time consuming. |
| Getting stopped behind a bus is very frustrating and can be dangerous |
| Go ahead with the Grant Road project! |
| Good public transportation that includes outer-lying areas would make Tucson a much more livable and sustainable city. We have many wonderful cultural and natural resources, but it's polluting and expensive to get to them. |
| Good traffic arteries |
| Good transportation systems are necessary to attract businesses. People don't like sitting in their cars for hours |
| Grid layout makes it easy to get around |
| Growing food not only improves the region's self reliance, but it also reduced imported goods which reduces traffic. It also is fresher, providing better nutrients to the consumer. |
| Hard to drive ....no 'parkways' |
| Hard to get across town - it limits areas to travel to |
| Hard to get around |
| Hard to get around, need light rail... |
| Hard to get around. |
| Hard to get from one side of town to the other, traffic, potholes |
| Hard to go east/west without major freeway |
| Hard to travel around-Tucson is not that big and has never aggressively addressed this issue |
| Having to drive from a quiet, non-congested area to an area where you have to be stopped for minutes at a time isn't desirable, especially when these areas are surrounded by buildings |
| Health issues for my spouse -- much easier on him to live in a warmer climate. Also less home maintenance and easier to drive. |
| Helps reduce the stress of driving in congested traffic. Gets me to work on time reliably. |
| Helps to get around town easier and economically viable for the city to grow |
| Here is not a lot of traffic, the area is much safer than the Tucson city limits |
| High-speed rail to connect through Chandler into Phoenix. A East-West traffic solution in the city. |
| Highway |
| Highways divide communities, create air pollution and traffic. highways make things seem far away and are intimidating for certain drivers. |
| Horrible cross-town traffic conditions! |
| Horrible traffic flow, seems like way too much time spent in long queues at red lights. |
| Hwy across town |
| I HATE commuting; Tucson is so spread-out that efficient public transportation should be more readily available as should more parkways/highways to move across town east/west and north/south. Fortunately, I live in mid-town, but not all my friends and family do:) |
| I HATE how Tucson is setup with driving through the streets to get anywhere. If they just built a west to east freeway going down Grant, things will be a lot better around here. Also, a freeway going up/down Oracle will help. |
| I am able to go about anywhere I need in 1 hour or less |
| I am concerned that Tucson keeps spreading out as people always want to live on the fringes of town. With the population growth projections, we soon won't have any Sonoran Desert or other natural resources left that give Tucson its amazing sense of place. These far flung communities create longer commutes for residents, and present air quality problems and traffic jams among other things. We need to bring down the cost of infill/re-development and raise the cost/impose greater restrictions on sprawl. |
| I am frustrated by the lack of planning and coordination of road construction as it seems to make little sense to cause bottlenecks all over the city at the same time. Not to mention how very long it takes to complete a project. |
| I am troubled that our community is so reliant on the automobile for transportation. It causes air pollution, stress (all those traffic jams!), safety concerns (no pedestrian eyes on the street as well as many auto crashes), and is a public health issue (not enough walking!!!). A major problem is underfunded multi-modal transit options. Our community needs to start giving greater priority to mixed use, higher density infill developments, walkable communities, more sidewalks, bus pullouts, shade trees, more regional bus lines, bikeways, bike lanes, and greater frequency of bus arrivals/departures. |
| I am very happy that I can live 2 miles from my job. This gives me the flexibility to use alternative modes to travel to work. |
| I believe the community should have a non-circulating car days, policy. ex: Some days certain cars and some days other cars should circulate. |
| I can get to most places in a pretty reasonable amount of time (not at rush hour, though) |
| I can't get from north tucson to east tucson easily |
| I cant imagine living anywhere else because of traffic. |
| I cant stand the sprawl I see when leaving town. The desert landscape being turned into clumped up cookie cutter homes that are far removed from food, work, or any other neccessities. this requires people to drive more, which requires bigger road to unclog traffic, etc. Lets be smarter about this people. Also, I hate seeing old buildings being torn down for no reason. I have seen several building be torn down only to leave an empty and ugly hole in the ground or dirt lot. I have lived in Tucson for about 8 years and the sprawl I have seen is simply not smart and not sustainable. And the demolition seems like a waist. Examples: The WMCA/Muse center for the arts on 6th st, the Sangin building, etc. |
| I dislike the continuing sprawl that is soon going to link tucson to phoenix and leading to an increase in smog due to the necessity for people to commute long distances . |
| I dispise those traffic cameras that cause a driver to slam on their brakes even when they are not speeding. I also feel it infringes on our rights and it cause undue stress. |
| I do a lot of driving and the roads are in awful shape - they're bumpy, rutted and potholes everwhere. There is just too much traffic and not enough roads. |
| I do bicycle commute at times and I have to ride on fast streets and bumpy roads that often have glass and other trash on them. I would like to be safe while commuting and I think this would increase the number of bicycle commuters as well, decrease pollution and car traffic. |
| I do not like the big city feel of Phoenix, LA , etc, no huge traffic problems and commute times |
| I don't believe in sprawl for so many reasons: gas costs, disconnects people from the center of town and community, builds congestion and pollution, etc. |
| I don't want a tram, a train, a light rail...we need to improve the streets and routes and we need a bypass of some kind across east to west. Aviation Parkway helps, but it's just not enough. I don't know what the answer is, I just know that when I am in traffic, I fantasize about what it would be like to have traffic move at a normal pace. It feels like we are always having road construction, and with a few exceptions, the results don't seem to help much. |
| I don't want to fight the hassle of a big city, with traffic, expense, and congestion, but I want to live in a place big enough to have a university and some variety in your life. |
| I don't want to live in a clone of the nation's fifth largest metropolitan area (Phoenix). I don't want the sprawl, the congestion, the traffic or the disconnect from the natural world that I believe characterize Phoenix. Let's not lose the uniqueness of Tucson while trying to be like the Big Sister who lives up north. |
| I drive 25 miles each way down Oracle every day. Would be nice to skip all the lights. |
| I drive all around Tucson, and transportation from 7-9am and 4-6pm is awful |
| I drive on the freeway all the time and the new widening of the freeway made it easier to travel on. |
| I drive the roads |
| I enjoy the foot bridges that allow me to get from where i am going without having to worry about vehicle traffic |
| I enjoy walking, and want to walk everywhere I go, or take short public transportation rides. Like being with various people on the streets away from heavy car traffic areas - many quaint and unique places to spend tie in. |
| I escaped from an example of 'growth' destroying one of the finest urban environments in the country (the S.F. Bay Area) by turning it into an unsustainable mess that we impossible to travel in or to enjoy. |
| I feel it would improve the community as a whole if there were better transportation corridors such as Sunrise Drive that would go around the Tucson basin for better connectivity. This could help decrease the need to enlarge all the internal thouroughfares which only seem to segment the community. The first place I would start is to make a connection through Schnider Road to the northeast side. |
| I feel that for a city of tucson's size should have more positive public spaces and more pedestrian-oriented areas. I personally feel that these types of spaces are better for the community and overall health. |
| I find it frustrating to drive (commute at peak hours) and to see the number of single occupancy vehicles. |
| I get really confused driving in Phoenix |
| I hate being stuck in traffic. I would like to have more opportunities to ride public transportation, or urban trails |
| I hate big cities like chicago and new york to live in. The traffic, crime, noise, lack of natural world, and overall mean people makes those environments horrible to me. Tucson has enough of the city life to have most things available to me while avoid most of the evils of big city life. |
| I hate commuting around tucson, it takes too long to get from one side of town to the other with out freeways. |
| I hate getting lost |
| I hate that it takes me a half hour to get anywhere in this town. I would love to put a crosstown freeway in. |
| I hate the summers. But the traffic improves. :) |
| I hate to see us polluting the air with so many cars on the roads...traffic congestion is bad for the lungs, and bad for the nerves! If we have to cross town to reach our daily destinations, why can't we have frequent and reliable public transportation? |
| I hate traffic, traffic traffic and fast pace in most cities the size of Tucson. |
| I have lived all over the country and Tucson is the worst planned town of any size I have ever seen. People from the Eastside don't go to the Westside and vice versa because it takes an hour. This is pitiful. |
| I have never lived in a place that sooooo promotes driving cars. Knocking down buildings and potentially closing businesses to repeatedly widen streets is stupid. Congested streets + competitive public transportation fares + good bike lanes = less car traffic. |
| I have never seen as many accidents as I have in Tucson, either people don't know how to drive here, or the traffic laws are faulty |
| I have seen that red light runners will not run the light where the cameras are, but at the very next intersection, three cars will go through after the light turns red. |
| I know I'm just repeating myself and I apologize for that, but gosh I would really love for transportation around this city to improve. And it's not like better infrastructure is going to make us become like Phoenix... our traffic congestion doesn't determine who we are as a community. |
| I know it's not as bad as other places, but I moved here 51 years ago, so it's bad now. Solutions include grade-separated interchanges, non-bus mass transit, more 3rd street-style bike routes. |
| I know road construction is needed, but I think there needs to be a better plan in place so there is limited construction during rush hour traffic, especially on the freeways. In town, parallel roads should not have simultaneous construction. We need better alternate paths. |
| I know they're working on it, but I'm not sure the long-range plan will improve things like Campbell at 4:30. Light rail between here and Phoenix would be great! |
| I know where I'm going and how to get there |
| I leave early for work so I don't have to spend more time in traffic, but traffic delays do subtract from my general quality of life. |
| I like being able to get across town in a relatively short amount of time. The Alvernon/River road really helps. Tucson still has a small town feel even though it has grown alot. |
| I like driving on the one we have here. |
| I like feeling a part of the community and being able to get around on city streets, no separated by freeways like Phoenix or LA |
| I like that I can get across town relatively quickly. |
| I like that it is small, easy to go from point A to point B with hardly any traffic jam |
| I like the advantages that a city the size of Tucson usually offers, but ours doesn't: professional sports teams, larger-scale concerts/shows, cheaper/more-direct airline travel, more of a singles-scene for those of us between college-age and retirement. For those reasons, I'm glad to live a relatively short drive from Phoenix. |
| I like the electric car that is coming downtown, I would like to see a train connection between Tucson and Phoenix (maybe Flagstaff, but I don't know if the tracks go that way). It would be good if we had a major north/south freeway/thruway to get through town quickly. |
| I like the fact I can get across town in a reasonable time, but with a freeway that time could be decreased even more. Instead I'm stuck stopping at a traffic light every block. |
| I like the fact that I can find everything I personally need in one area of Tucson, if I choose to. Yet, I can travel to another area for even more selection if I need to. The size of Tucson meets all my personal shopping needs. |
| I like the fact that outside of narrow peak periods (and perhaps when the snowbirds are here in force) it's easy to drive most places in under 10 minutes, there's lots of free and convenient parking |
| I like the lack of formality, particularly in the dress code, but also in social interaction. I like the lack of pretension, that we don't take ourselves too seriously. Or maybe instead of the negative (lack), I like the groundedness, the realness. I like going out in the winter without the coat and window-scraping production. Actually, I just like going out in the winter, the winter sun always makes me smile. I like the traffic flow, which seems easier than other places. |
| I like the size of the city. Not too big and easy to get around |
| I like the smaller hometown feeling where word of mouth still can get things done. I am proud when locals are polite and helpful; unfortunately, this is disappearing, especially with traffic. |
| I live down 3 miles of dirt road that is not maintained by the county. It was okay 17 years ago when only 3 homes were there. Now there are many more dirt roads and many, many more people living out there. If the county is going to allow these people to have permits and collect taxes, it should be mandatory to maintain the roads. Our road is almost impossible to drive and our property taxes quadrupled in one year with no benefits. |
| I live in Sahuarita and it take 25 min to get down town and 45 min to get to the foot hills were good restaurants and entertainment is located. |
| I live in Vail but travel to Tucson (mid-town)every day for work and while I like the 45 minutes of solitary time I get it does get more congested as time goes on and around the holidays it gets crazy going anywhere here in town. Complete the Houghton corridor project; the space and need is there. |
| I live in between Oro Valley and Marana so transportation is important to me. It takes me 30-40 minutes just to get to school for the past 6 years resulting in a loss of money. I've noticed the streets becoming more congested and unimpressive road work projects |
| I live in what I consider the core of the city of Tucson. I don't generally have to deal with the sprawling mass that it has become. Everything I want or need is there and getting around in it is easy. It would be nicer with effective public transportation, but it is OK. |
| I live just 6 miles away from my place of business on nearly 3.5 acres with my wife and horses. Most metropolitan locations could not offer that opportunity without a significant commute of 20 miles minimally. Despite lack of major east/west route, traffic is not a problem. |
| I live of the east side and I don't want to drive 45 minutes to do things downtown or at the UofA |
| I love the liberal social and political attitudes of Tucsonans. I love the liberal organizations and intelligent conversation that is so prevalent around the university and elsewhere in town. I love living within walking distance of a Middle-Eastern Hookah Lounge, Vegetarian restaurant and French cafe. |
| I never know where I'm going |
| I personally do not enjoy driving around Tucson because it's all inner-city driving that takes too long. There needed to be some sort of highway system that makes traveling in the Tucson area easier and faster. Seems Tucson is re-active in the planning of this community instead of pro-active. |
| I realize that the current infrastructure of both housing and roads in the Tucson region makes many alternative transportation options difficult if not impossible for many. However, over time as redevelopment occurs, mixed-use development, densification, and transportation oriented development could help alleviate some of our current traffic conundrum. Please make it a priority to move us away from the automobile in as many ways as possible. |
| I refuse to drive west of the Interstate unless I absolutely must. I live, work, shop, and frequent professional providers west of the Interstate because of the horrible traffic conditions through town. |
| I remember Tucson in 1973. I remember perimeters being Wilmot to the east; Orange Grove to the north. Traffic was virtually non-existent. There was lots of open space, co-hesiveness to neighborhoods. Growth destroys intimacy...let's limit growth! |
| I ride my bike a lot. I commute on it nearly every day. As nice as Tucson is for biking, it could be better with more underpasses like the ones that go under Speedway near UA and more routes with better separation from car traffic. |
| I see a lot of accidents caused by our streets having left turns allowed on a regular green light. We need left turn arrows at every intersection. We have a lot of 'older' drivers here, as well as college kids, and taking the option of turning on a green light would make the streets safer. |
| I see too many of the white ghost bikes around town. Often the reason is because the road is just not engineered to have both bikes and cars occupying the same space. It isn't right for cyclists to hold up traffic or cause traffic to do dangerous moves to pass them, but cyclists should have safe places for commuting or pleasure. |
| I spend a lot of time in my car everyday and feel that some of the roads could be improved, especially the most frequently traveled roads. Also, I would like to see better planning when a new community is being built to prevent the traffic situation from becoming unbearable before it is finally fixed. |
| I spend too much of my time in my car. Effective transportation system is important for business. |
| I think Tucson is too spread out and as a result there is a great deal of pollution and traffic from cars. If downtown were more attractive more people will live closer to where they work and commute less. |
| I think it is important for the national security of our country to reduce our dependance on foreign oil. it also lowers the emissions and makes moving about the city more fun, if we had a rail system that we could jump on and off as we wanted. It is boring to drive in a car and sit in traffic. |
| I think that a light rail system or some other public transportation would do a lot for the city. If it all networked through downtown, the inner city would improve dramatically. An interstate through the east/center of town would work wonders as well for getting around easier. |
| I think the traffic lights are poorly timed |
| I think there should be more transportation available for everybody. Taxis charge a super high rate. No buses routes in some areas. This makes it difficult to become green. |
| I think there would be much less traffic accidents if the intersections were standardized to match the majority of other intersections in the US. |
| I think this speaks for itself. The inability of Tucson to wrestle successfully with itself with regard to cross town traffic is a poor reflection on our community leadership. |
| I understand it's hard to keep up with rapid growth, but so many streets are ridiculously gridlocked all the time. |
| I understand the effectivness of the traffic cameras but i would change the notice on when they are turned on. |
| I want it safer and easier to get around town without a car |
| I want to garage my car and get places on public transportation. |
| I work all over town. I can make it to the east side, west side, and even Oro Valley in relatively short time. The commute here is never really as bad as I think it is. This helps greatly with my packed schedule and diverse work locations. |
| I work in home health and do a lot of driving around town. It's frustrating to get stuck at stoplight after stoplight. |
| I would build better streets, better highways, make it easier to go to and from |
| I would have turned Grant Rd into a limited access road to facilitate quicker cross town travel. |
| I would like to get around on my own steam a little more and not rely so much on my car. I sure could use the exercise. But there are no sidewalks or lights in my neighborhood and although there is shopping within walking distance, it is too dangerous to cross 6 lanes of traffic to get there. |
| I would like to see a revitalized downtown and light rail installed along several corridors: Broadway into the city center from Vail, and Oracle from Catalina to City Center to Green Valley. People could then transit central Tucson using buses or shuttles. This would improve traffic and pollution levels. |
| I would like to see a transportation route around the city. |
| I would love to see Sun Tran service expanded in Oro Valley, Marana, and Sahuarita. The express buses are great for commuters, but they are not practical for people who need to make shorter trips into Tucson throughout the day. |
| I would make a law stating that corners on intersections be clear of brush and walls in order to improve line of sight for oncoming traffic. |
| I would ride it to work ot avoid traffic and live a greener life |
| I would use the bus if it came more often; I can't afford the extra time it takes waiting for buses; light rail would ease so much traffic congestion; fast train between Tucson & Phoenix would be tremenous asset to both communities. |
| I would widen streets |
| I'm Ok with the lack of a cross-town freeway, but we need another way other than Tanque Verde to drive/bike east-west on the north side of the city. |
| I've lived here since 1984 and voted for each and every proposed freeway and improvement, but nothing ever happened... the Tucson traffic & freeway system is why there are so many dang accidents and road rage incidents! |
| If bicyclist want to ride on the street let them pay a registration that would help pay for the bike paths and extra lanes. I'm not allowed to drive my tractor on the shoulder of the road because it is not licensed, but they can obstruct a traffic lane??? |
| If don't have a car, you can't get around |
| If we had a freeway loop, we would decrease the amount of truck traffic on city streets and increase the length of life of our streets. This would also allow us to have better, quicker access to businesses and services that are all over our city. |
| If we had sidewalks I could walk my son to daycare instead of drive. We could walk to the local school and park without worrying so much about getting hit by cars. Sidewalks are good for communities by encouraging people to get outside and walk. |
| If we want to explore Tucson, the frustration of traffic makes it difficult to do so. Possibly make more and safer bike lanes |
| If you want to do something not in your neighborhood it can take half an hour or an hour to get there especially if you have to go east to west. |
| Imporve traffic |
| Improve commute times |
| Improve cross-city transportation |
| Improve road maintenance for easier transportation. Widen to add further bike lanes to lessen the possibility of accidents and increase alternative transportation |
| Improve roads and traffic (maintain and growth) |
| Improve the flow of traffic (It is happening). |
| Improve traffic congestion. |
| Improve traffic flow east-west in Tucson |
| Improve traffic low with crosstown expressways (not freeways) like in the San Jose-Sunnyvale-Santa Clara-Mountain View-Palo Alto California towns. |
| Improve traffice flow and planning |
| Improve travel time |
| Improved roads (fewer potholes), more sidewalks and bike paths, light rail? |
| Improved traffic flow. |
| Improving traffic movements across and around the area |
| In 1980 with a map, it was easy to get around except for the one-way streets downtown. We have more traffic now and that needs to be addressed - improved streets. |
| In Tucson it can easily take 50 minute's or more to get to a friend's home. In most large cities with 500,000 to 1,000,000 million people, a 50 minute car ride would take you to a whole new town to visit a friend. Our city needs to improve the travel corridors with 'spokes' that radiate from the base of the mountains that the town surrounds for better car travel, and light rail links to hubs in every reagion of the city. |
| In reference to #1, but also to make Tucson safer for pedestrians. People shouldn't get hit by cars when they are crossing the street in the crosswalk with the green light. People drive crazily in Tucson. |
| In town and Northwest traffic flow |
| Increase funding and taxes to pay for road widening and light-rail. |
| Increased traffic challenges remind me of the San Francisco Bay Area in the 80's. Where's the 'light rail'? We need several, while maintaining our neighborhoods. |
| Increases pollution |
| Inner-city driving |
| Innercity speed limit |
| Interurban access - bikeability (safety, alternate modes, pleasurable rides in neighborhoods |
| Invest in the built environment within the city limits, make is livable and able for people to enjoy and use without driving long distances and investing infrastructure into further out developments. |
| It allows people to get around with greater frequency without creating more traffic. |
| It can be impossible to get around town due to multiple construction projects that are concurrent. Example: LaCanada is a major north/south route that has been torn up for about 2 years, and if Cholla is started before LaCanada is done it will strangle the northwest side. Also, intersection improvements are slated for Ina-Oracle, and Oracle is now carrying a heavy load due to LaCanada. The County should not tear up or cause more than one roadway to be functionally impassable at one time. When police are on site, they just sit in cars and don't direct traffic, which sure would be helpful! |
| It can be very stressful to get around Tucson and Pima County. The lights are not timed with efficient travel in mind. I feel I spend half my waking hours stuck at red lights. Also, without more highways in town, there is no expedient way to get from certain parts of the valley to others. A person living on the east side of town can spend about as much time getting to I-10 and Cortaro as it takes to get from Cortaro to Chandler. |
| It feels like there are too many vehicles on the road. Not only does it now take longer to get places, but it feels more unsafe driving around. It feels like at any given moment I could get in an accident because so many people are all over the place trying to quickly get to their destination. |
| It has less traffic, we can have a higher level of living, the greater opportunity offered here |
| It has the many benefits of a city--research university, fine arts, convention center, museums, etc. without the big city pressure of traffic, congestions and pollution |
| It is a pain to get across town. Too much traffic |
| It is almost impossible to drive around the city without experiencing road rage...Not at other drivers, but at the terrible infrastructure of the roads here. It's terrible to drive anywhere east/west and this NEEDS to change to accomodate the growing population. It would also be nice to have roads cleaned up regularly and fixed so I don't die when I'm biking and fall into a GIANT pothole. |
| It is difficult for me to travel from the eastside from the westside every day. |
| It is difficult to drive very far without dodging potholes or rough streets. Decorations on walls are attractive but use the money to make traveling more enjoyable. |
| It is difficult to get across town, takes too long to get around. |
| It is difficult to get to work when you are detoured to a road and the detoured road also had road construction reducing it to one lane (In January-Ajo Hwy to Mission and Mission has road work). Expanding mass transit would help. |
| It is difficult to move around the city. Too many lights. There is no train that would take you to different places on the city or a cheap way to go to Phoenix. |
| It is difficult to pull out into traffic from San Mateo Apartments when you can't see oncoming (southbound) traffic because of brush. When making a u-turn to travel north, it is hard to see oncoming (northbound) traffice because of the plants in the median. |
| It is difficult to see oncoming traffic from a stop sign when brush, trees and walls block the view. |
| It is incredible that the city of Tucson exists without freeways, expressways or without a worthwhile mass transit plan. This is not something to boast about. Poor planning leads to more air polution because citizens cannot get from point A to point B without being able to take efficient environmentally friendly transportation. Not to mention the amount of time that is wasted by Tucsonans struggling in traffic or waiting for too few buses and no light rail. The roads are in poor condition. It takes far too long to make repairs or improvements to roads and infrastructure in Tucson. |
| It is large enough to have a lot of ammenities but not so big I have to sit in traffic for hours. |
| It is possible to be in the city, with all it conveniences (and traffic) at one moment, and a short time later, be away from it all and in touch with nature in Sabino Canyon, or Mount Lemmon, or the Desert Museum. |
| It is ridiculous how long it takes to get from one side of town to the next. If you want to improve economic development, quit wasting time on a stupid trolley from UA to downtown for for a relative few, and instead build a freeway around Tucson EVERYBODY can and will use. |
| It is so difficult to get across town without running into so much traffic, especially during construction and rush hour. Tucson has grown too much. Nothing wrong with growth, but Tucson needs to accomodate this. |
| It is somewhat charming that Tucson has resisted the freeway systems that dominate other cities. It is time, however, to develop a workable cross-town transportation route and to enhance public transit offerings. |
| It is very difficult to easily get from one point of town to the other whether you are driving a car, riding a bus, or a bike. This sections off our community quite a bit. |
| It is very difficult to get from point A to point B because the freeways are structured on the side of town. You have to take surface streets to get any where. Who wants to go out of their way to get on the freeway? |
| It is very hard to get from the west to the east side of Tucson. A better travel system would reduce pollution, reduce travel time, reduce road rage, etc... |
| It is very slow to get around Tucson |
| It is virtually impossible to get around Tucson without a car. The bus routes are such that it requires one to take multiple buses often times and literally hours to get to a single destination. The buses stop running relatively early making it impossible for late travel. |
| It makes for a better quality of life; not having to deal with major rush hour traffic or inclement weather. |
| It may be too late, but it would sure be nice to be able to get across town without inching along Grant. |
| It should not take years to complete one road project. It makes it difficult to get around town, increases accidents, and costs drivers time. Better planning would certainly help. |
| It shouldn't take a half hour to drive 10 miles across town. |
| It takes 45 mins to an hour to cross the city and there is no real alternative |
| It takes FOREVER to get from NE Tucson to Raytheon and the Airport (S) or to the I-10 (W). Tucson needs a highway that loops around the city. |
| It takes a long time to get around town by car. The traffic is bad and there are a lot of dangerous drivers. It might be helpful to have a better public transportation system. |
| It takes a long time to travel short distances, waiting 2-3 cycles at traffic signals. |
| It takes approximately 45 minutes to drive 15 miles in this city and currently it is unavoidable if traveling to or from the North side. There needs to be some sort of expressway between the north and south side of town, like golf links to grant. Being able to get from one side of town to the other more quickly will encourage people visit more areas of the city. |
| It takes as long for me to get to I-10 as it does for me to get from Ina and the freeway to Casa Grande. |
| It takes for ever to get across town, especially east to west. Most cities this size have a belt system to move traffic. |
| It takes forever to drive from one end of town to the other. It will only get worse, we need improved infrastructure |
| It takes longer to get from NW to SE than it takes to get to Phoenix |
| It takes me 20 minutes to commute to work. We can easily afford our home on one income (although both of us work). We are not stretched thin financially or time-wise so it allows for a greater quality of life. |
| It takes so long to go up north on Oracle past Ina |
| It takes so long to travel anywhere in the city |
| It takes soooo long to get anywhere in Tucson! The traffic is ridiculous, and I feel like I spend most of my time in central Tucson because it just takes too long to go anywhere else |
| It takes too long to get around Tucson |
| It takes way too long to get to other parts in the City |
| It used to be easy to get around Tucson, but now it's scary to drive downtown |
| It will make going anywhere not close to home very aggravating. There is no way to fix this problem. It is cost prohibitive. |
| It would be easier to move around the community in a timely fashion. |
| It would make it easier to get around the area - used to reduce dependence on cars |
| It's difficult driving around Tucson. Stop and go traffic. |
| It's easy to get around in Tucson for the most part. |
| It's easy to get around town. |
| It's easy to get where you need to go |
| It's expensive to drive; and stressful |
| It's frustrating sometimes to go from one place to another, sitting in traffic for what seems like forever |
| It's hard to get across and around town in a timely fashion |
| It's hard to get around in Tucson and streets could be safer. The City/County has not been far-sighted in planning for transportation needs of a growing city. Money is also mis-spent on transportation projects that are not important to the masses, specifically, am really against the Moder Streetcar. There are also way too many busses on the road carrying 0 to2 people, especially in the northwest. These routes should be discontinued. Likewise, the small SunTran buses do not have a big ridership from my observations. SunTran is wasteful, polluting and does not serve its purpose as currently operated. |
| It's hard to get from the east side of town to the west side and the same north to south. |
| It's important to improve traffic conditions, like adding more left turn green lights, in order to reduce accidents. |
| It's negative to have only one freeway- when it's down everyone is affected |
| It's ridiculous that certain roads just stop and you often have to go out of the way to get to where you need to go because a road stops or changes direction |
| It's time that Tucson joined the 21st century. We need to improve the surface streets and have more freeways and parkways. It's just time!!! It should not take as long to get across town as it takes to get to Chandler! |
| It's too time consuming to go a distance that could be traversed more quickly. |
| It's ugly and hard to get around town. I also want to stop Tucson from spreading out into the desert. |
| It's unpleasant to drive miles from point to point - uglier, hotter, drier |
| Its difficult to go east to west anywhere within Tucson so I spend a lot of time in my vehicle to only go 10 miles |
| Its easy to get around |
| Just the right size. Easy to get around. know where places are. not overwhelming. |
| Just visit a city with great public transportation and you'll know why it's important. Less pollution, more interesting experiences, faster travel... |
| LOTS OF RURAL AREAS, NOT BIG CONGESTED AREA. EASY TO GET 'AWAY' FOR THE DAY FROM CITY TO MOUNTAINS OR DESERT OR GRASSLANDS. |
| Lack of easy east/west access makes it difficult to get around town. |
| Lack of freeways or ease of cross-town traffic movement |
| Lack of traffic congestion |
| Lack of traffic problems |
| Large, fat, congested cities are uncomfortable for me personally. Normally I have lived in cities that are 50,000 people or less and found that very pleasant. Tucson is surprising like that even though much, much larger and I have lived here 10 years now. |
| Leading left arrow everywhere |
| Leads to a profusion of irresponsible driving tactics |
| Left turn after the light is unfamiliar to those from out-of-state |
| Left turn on a green light. |
| Less Traffic |
| Less cars equals less traffic. |
| Less time spent in traffic or waiting in line at restaurants, etc. equals more quality time with family and friends. |
| Less traffic |
| Less traffic (better street design) |
| Less traffic than the east or west coast |
| Less traffic, better bus system. |
| Less traffic, more walkability! |
| Lessens traffic and congestion in the city. |
| Lifestyles are becoming more hectic and ease of movement within the city is important in getting things done |
| Light rails, better bus schedules, better traffic flow solutions (stoplight syncronization, throughways, overpasses, etc.) would improve the flow of traffic, reduce emissions, improve air quality, etc. |
| Like most cities out there in the US today, we are in desperate need of transportation remedies. I would prefer mass transit in the form of a light rail or highly functioning bus system, but regardless, something must be done to curb the growing traffic congestion problem as well as pollution. |
| Livable/walkable neighborhoods - a positive community that isn't choked with cars |
| Living on the East side, I find it a pain to get to the West side to buy things and attend events. If there were a more effective way to get across town that didn't force me to use my car, and didn't force me to sit in traffic for 45 minutes, I would do it more often. |
| Lots of congestion |
| Lots of options of things to do but not difficult to get there, park, etc. compared to larger cities |
| Lots of times, if you hit 1 red light, you get the next few red lights just as you approach the intersection. |
| Lots of traffic congestion Oracle Road and north. Traffic is also a challenge around U of A. A light rail up Oracle Road would be helpful. |
| Love the slower traffic |
| Low cost of living, easy commutes, overall low stress |
| MAKES MOVING AROUND TUCSON ALOT BETTER |
| Make Downtown easier to get in to/out off. |
| Make Tucson's highway system better. |
| Make it easier to get East/West across town. |
| Make it easier to get around town |
| Make it easier/faster to get to the East side |
| Make the lights like the other lights |
| Makes for a less pleasant living experience |
| Makes it slow going when driving around town |
| Makes me crazy. |
| Makes travelling faster |
| Many big cities have traffic cops to streamline traffic flow during rush hour. Especially with budget cuts, it is a good opportunity to see a cop out of a vehicle, and certainly it couldn't hurt our traffic flow. Maybe parking meters rates should increase, but so should biking incentives (showers). |
| Many major E/W and nearby N/S streets could be made ONE WAY. This would speed up traffic and cut down on pollution dramatcially. But the city council has no guts to even propse this |
| Many of our streets are in desperate need of repaving. Many need shoulders and bike lanes. This would improve the traffic flow and hopefully reduce accidents. |
| Many of the streets in Tucson are filled with pot holes and other issues of the sort. Also, the intersection at I-10 & Speedway has many accidents and needs to have double turn lanes with better timed lights! |
| Many people in this City depend on the transit system to go to work. In addition, many others could use transit as form of mobility, which will substantially reduce traffic, allow us to have more pedestrian-friendly streetscapes and make the community more sustainable. The problem is that the community has grown in a manner that contributes to urban sprawl and such sprawl does not support the critical mass needed to support light rail, street cars or a more efficient transit system. |
| Mobility (transportation) |
| Months of traffic delays to do jobs that could be done in half the time. |
| More bike paths -- less traffic |
| More enforcement of auto traffic violations |
| More fun, and easy-to-get-to activities - better access for youth |
| More limited access roadways |
| More mass transit options in place of auto trasport |
| More mass transit/dependable public transport. |
| More street lights and freeways |
| More than 2 lanes is better |
| Most of the resources big cities offer - with strong sense of community. Not too much traffic - yet. |
| Most places require a car. Many places have no bus service. Many areas have no sidewalks and walking is a very hostile, unpleasant activity - if there are sidewalks there is no shade and the sidewalks are too narrow. |
| Much of the road conditions are not up to par and the traffic has gotten worse and it the traffic infostructure is not up to par...maybe we need a better public transportation system? |
| My car can only take so much. Appearance means a lot to investors, as well! |
| My friends, family and I are spread out all over town and it takes EXTREMELY too much time to get to them. It's just plain tough to get around via city streets. Too congested. We need cross town freeways and we especially need Snyder road connected for E-W travel. |
| My opinion buses are the biggest traffic hazard on the road either make all buses pull off the road or get rid of them!! |
| My short commute to work |
| NO MAP NECESSARY |
| Need a cross town highway system, getting across town is an all day event |
| Need a cross-town freeway |
| Need a highway/freeway on the east side. |
| Need better city streets- too many potholes |
| Need better coordination of traffic lights to facilitate cross town traffic, both north/south and west/east. |
| Need easier access to all parts of town |
| Need easier ways to get from here to there - efficient and effective |
| Need more park and rides - the transportation system needs to be more user friendly |
| Need repair |
| Need safe bike paths because traffic is crazy |
| Need to be able to get around town in a less congested way |
| New to the city- like to see the sights and new areas |
| Newcomers wander about needlessly |
| Nice people with good qualities |
| Nice size city. Easy to drive |
| Nicer roads and parks would make the city look better and more enjoyable |
| No heavy traffic |
| No icy roads |
| No real traffic problems relative to other places |
| No traffic snarles such as in Virginia, new York and L.A. |
| None of the big city hassles-traffice, people, indifference |
| Not a crazy pace, traffic and commutes are reasonable. |
| Not a lot of traffic but yet has all the conveniences of a large city |
| Not big-city attitudes Somewhat easy to get around |
| Not confused when driving |
| Not congested like Phoenix |
| Not have to depend on my car so much |
| Not to congested |
| Not tons of traffic, bump into people that you know different places, casual work environment |
| Nothing is more than 30 minutes drive. |
| Older folks can't get around...designed as an auto culture when the auto is no longer vialbe |
| One does not have to get on a highway to get somewhere |
| One must drive to get anywhere in Tucson. The flow of traffic or lack thereof is annoying & effects everyday life significantly. |
| One way in one way out, not a big metropolis |
| Our daughter in San Antonio can't get anywhere without going on a freeway. I can go months at a time without putting tread to freeway. I love the surface streets - it makes Tucson feel like a community not a huge city. |
| Our grid street system is packed at several times a day, impeding flow and contributing to environmental and economic problems. |
| Our infrastructure of roads and cross-town access needs changing |
| Our roads are being, but need to continue to be upgraded. An east/west thoroughfare would be helpful. Our bus system needs to be enhanced and promoted.I would love to use public transportation to and from work. I live Campbell/Ft. Lowell and work Valencia/S.12th. It takes over an hour to use public transportation. |
| PEOPLE ARE FAMILY LIKE AND VERY MUCH DOWN TO EARTH (no competition between people) ; THE TRUE SPIRIT OF THE ARTS AND MUSIC; IT'S NATURE; OPEN SPACE; EASY DRIVING |
| People can't live on one side of town and commute to the other - we end up with a lack of diversity and increased segregation |
| People of all incomes and abilities should be able to effectively navigate our surroundings and participate in community life with public transportation. Many cities have light rail that improves traffic congestion and adds to the city vitality. |
| Pharmaceutical companies are moving to Oro Valley - Ventana has good coordination with the airport authorities so that people can travel easily |
| Places are easy to find, making it easy to navigate. |
| Plenty to do with University, and easy to navigate from north to South East to West |
| Pollution and traffic reduction |
| Poor traffic plans |
| Poor trafic flow and hard to get around |
| Poorly planned & over-development: destroys the natural beauty people come to the area for in the first place; overtaxes the water supply; contributes to congestion; causes a glut in the supply |
| Potholes and road shoulder maintenance are dangerous to the safety of all users! There is always road construction on busy roads paralell to each other when any attention is given to improving them. |
| Prefer to raise my family and live away from the hustle and bustle of the city. At our previous home we could hear the increasing traffic on Houghton from a mile away; literally |
| Public Transportation does not reach all areas of the city...I live in the SE (Rita Ranch) and there is no bus service. Also, the absence of freeways within the city is a big inconvenience. Driving everywhere on surface streets is time-consuming and frustrating. |
| Public transportation is so important, because the commute is so hard to do |
| Public transportation provides a place for social interaction, less congestion, and reduced pollution |
| Public transportation difficult to get to some areas and takes a long time |
| Public transportation more bus routes (currently many isolated areas) |
| Public transportation/traffic |
| Put a freeway in to make crosstown travel faster |
| Really not fun to have to stop at every block because the lights aren't synchronized. |
| Really this is two items: First, the condition of our roads is bad. Lots of potholes and decayed conditions. Congestion is also bad in part due to increased population but also upgrades haven't kept pace. For instance, we need more bus pullouts, traffic light synchronization and other things to make traffic flow smoother and faster. |
| Reduce smog and time spent in travel |
| Reduce sprawl, pollution, and congestion on the roads |
| Reduce the width of residential streets |
| Reduce traffic (cars) |
| Reduce traffic congestion |
| Reduce traffic congestion, pollution |
| Reduce traffic; reduce overall impact and pollution |
| Reduced congestion (less emissions) is important for air quality |
| Relatively light traffic |
| Relieve congestion |
| Relieve traffic congestion. |
| Road congestion. |
| Road conjestion is frustrating as is the time it takes to complete road improvement projects. |
| Road construction |
| Road repair to cease 'beating up' my vehicle, move about town more easily |
| Road traffic needs to be fixed |
| Roads |
| Roads (transportation) - easily be able to get across town |
| Roads - the ability to get around town easily |
| Roads and infrastructure |
| Roads and traffic congestion |
| Roads and traffic create stress; better public transportation would enable people to move around more comfortably, less expensively, and with less damage to the environment. |
| Roads and traffic flow |
| Roads are always congested; very difficult to get around the city - Tucson's population is expanding and we need better ways to get around |
| Roads seem to be in poor condition. Across town travel difficult. |
| Roads, potholes, too much traffic |
| Roads. We need better routes around town. Why can't we come up with a way to use the wash. |
| Roads/traffic |
| Roadway traffic and public transportation |
| Roadways and traffic |
| Roadways get you no where!! |
| Rotten transportation system, no buses to eastside, no light rail |
| Safe and mobile |
| Safe mode for walkers and it helps fight obesity |
| Safety, ease of transportation, poor roads and traffic control make traffic difficult |
| Safety, timeliness |
| Seems a lot of buildings stand vacant for years, while new ones are being built elsewhere. The vacant buildings don't help the property value or traffic of neighboring businesses. |
| Seems like planning on road building is not done very well. Work on multiple major roads going into city at same time. |
| Seems to be adequate medical care - even if you have to drive 30 miles to the city to receive it |
| Serenity - lack of congestion |
| Service streets get so backed up and the stoplights on the main thoroughfares during the day make it very time consuming getting across town. |
| Since it is mostly government downtown, making downtown a pedestrian zone seems like an excellent way to vitalize downtown and curb the traffic problems. |
| Size of the population - size of the community and easy to get around |
| Slow down the traffic |
| Small town feel is nice when it comes to relationships with other people, but not when it comes to our streets. Phoenix got somethings right. |
| Small town feel means no smog, no major traffic problems associated with big cities |
| Smallish size makes getting to work and running errands easier. |
| Smoother roads |
| So congested. I think multiple things need to happen. We need freeways east and west. We also need better public transportation -- bus or rail system that is convenient for most people. More sidewalks in residential areas. |
| So many people complain about the traffic here, and wish there were a freeway system. Those probelms would be alleviated if we had a more effsctive public transport system. When I travel, I am always amazed at the convenience of hopping on the train/subway/bus. I have lived in Tucson for 26 years, and have yet to attempt riding the buses here. |
| Some of them are really bad and hard to drive. I can't wait until they finish La Cholla. It takes me forever to get to and from school on the bus because of the roads. |
| Something to help the flow of traffic |
| Sometimes getting across town is difficult |
| Sometimes very hard to get around with various parallel routes all under construction |
| Space major construction projects such that they are not in close proximity to eachother at the same time. sic east west speedway at camino seco and east west Tanque Verde at Houghton |
| Stop and go relief |
| Stop lights need to be synchronized |
| Street Improvements/Traffic Flow |
| Street capacity |
| Street maps with inadequate explanation re name changes |
| Street traffic is so slow! I wish we had a cross town freeway or more parkways or ??? |
| Streets are choked during the day based on my travels. People use cars here because the geographic dispersal renders buses ineffective to most folk. |
| Streets get flooded all the time when it rains. |
| Streets in Tucson are terrible to drive on and congested near campus. They flood on older streets with no connection to drains and cause more traffic problems |
| Streets run north and south and east and west making navigating thru town easy. |
| Stress about time in transport |
| Such a hassle to get around |
| Surface streets have not changed significantly in 30 years yet traffic has more than doubled. We need more controlled access through-ways, street widening and/or freeways to serve the growing population. |
| Surface traffic |
| Synchronize street lights or remove unnecessary ones that impede the flow of traffic |
| Synchronize street lights to cut down on stop-go driving. |
| Synchronize traffic lights so we don't have to stop at every light going down Campbell at 9PM. |
| Synchronize traffic lights, or use traffic cops daily |
| Synchronized traffic lights |
| THEY SPEAD OUT INTO THE STREETS AND HOLD UP TRAFFIC |
| TRAFFIC |
| Takes a long time to get through town, especially in winter months. N. Oracle Rd has increased traffic causing backups frequently |
| Takes a lot of time to get from point A to point B |
| Takes me twice as long to get anywhere. Unorganized street lights. 35 mph? Maintenance |
| Takes time away from other things |
| Takes too long to go short distances |
| Taking surface streets too slow. |
| Teh desert, the parks and national monuments and parks. The relative ease in which one can travel through town. The fact that I spend so much time of the year outside. |
| Terrible roads and no crosstown highways |
| The 'suicide lanes' worked - so we got rid of them. The roads are falling apart, and have huge potholes that aren't being repaired. But we now have a trolley that goes from the UofA to 4th Ave on Saturday nights... and if you want to park downtown in a garage or parking lot be prepared to have a wallet-ectomy. |
| The Regional Transportation Plan is good to upgrade and widen the roads, but it takes too long to complete the projects. Also need bridges built over the CDO wash at Overton and also at LaCholla to allow traffic to move during the monsoon rains. |
| The amount of cars on the road causes congestion a lot of the time. Light rail could help reduce emissions, and provide more of a cosmopolitan feel. |
| The bus system is not efficient. I would not use it unless I absolutely had to. When driving in Tucson, the lack of a freeway system that moves through town makes for a lot of surface street traffic and increased time on the road. |
| The busses are never on time. The streets are in awful shape. There is no streetlights / sidewalks and dangerous to walk and ride a bike at night. GIVE me a freeway to get across town quicker...WHAT era is Tucson existing in???? |
| The cameras on River and Oracle are a trap for motorists. This needs to be investigated. It is borderline illegal what they are doing. Any miscalculation of time and we must pay a huge price. The lines are misleading! |
| The city has outgrown the road system. A major road East to West is missing. A loop around the city is missing. |
| The city is not criss crossed with highways. I know people complain about traffic, but putting highways through the city won't alleviate the problem; they'll just fill up then we'll make more. Tucson is a similar size to El Pasos and Albuquerque but retains a special charm because of it's rural, small town feel. |
| The commute to work is too long. My wife's commute to kids schools is way too long. We want to move, but the economy has killed our ability to sell. |
| The constant need for driving negatively affects our community spirit |
| The constant road and building construction that delays traffic. Needing to beautify the downtown area with things to do. |
| The core of the city is easy to get around. |
| The driving between the two cities is getting very congested and it would be great to have a safe convenient way to travel between the two. |
| The emphasis on maintaining bike accesibility within the city helps Tucson be not only one of the most bike friendly cities in the U.S., but also one of the healthier. An active citizenry is a necessity, and providing not only bike lanes on (almost) all major streetways, but also bike lockers, bike information, and the BAC encourages those who might otherwise stay indoors or drive. |
| The entire environment needs to be considered and sustained so we will continue to have sunshine, desert environment, and not smog, congestion, etc. overcrowded |
| The fighters are noisy and disturb the peace but we have to put up with them because the base has so much money invested here. Also the interstate and traffic is totally built around the AF base , making it more difficult to travel on the east side. |
| The flow of traffic - a belt-line around the city |
| The freeway should better incorporate the inner city so traffic is streamlined |
| The grid of Tucson was not designed w/such a big city in mind and it makes it difficult to get any place easily, more specifically a better route between the east and west side of town. |
| The growing traffic |
| The individuals who drive poorly and never seem to be caught for their mistakes |
| The infrastructure, traveling across town is a bear. |
| The lack of East/West freeways. |
| The lack of convenient cross-town transporation has pushed many developers to the far edges of the city, and even out into the county. This has lost tax income from potential infill development due to commuters not wanting to spend 1+ hours in mid-/cross-town traffic. |
| The less traffic the more city is accessible to me (less expensive, less time, more entertainment and fulfillment in life; less anxiety) |
| The lights don't seem to be timed. |
| The one major drawback to little communities and neighborhoods is how long it takes to get across the city to participate in those events. Not to mention the condition of many of the mid-town and down-town roads... |
| The region is big enough to have major services, Doctors, Hospitals, Trauma Center and cultural activities without assocaiated congestion of a larger city i.e. Phoenix. |
| The relative ease of getting places in Tucson makes participating in community an easier choice to make rather than the time, cost and trouble of getting around in other cities being a disincentive to take advantage of all that a city has to offer. |
| The road system |
| The roads are a continuous mess and it is difficult to get quickly across town with all the constant construction projects. |
| The roads are a mess and traveling is slow. Public transportation is ok, but a trip that takes me 25 minutes in my car takes almost 2 hours on a bus. This makes riding the bus a very poor option when a busy day is planned. |
| The roads are horrible. Potholes, poorly timed lights, and odd speed limits make driving bad. Additionally the lack of a system of highways forces most of the city to use the surface streets to get anywhere. |
| The roads are overcrowded, making them tedious and unsafe. We have made great strides for bicycles. We need better public transportation. |
| The roads are terrible. Pot holes give you flat tires. Ugly, overgrown medians detract from beauty of area. It takes forever to get to the east side of town. |
| The roads need to be more convenient. Also, the amount of traffic takes a toll on people |
| The roads. Some roads are in very bad shape |
| The roadway system. |
| The small town planning has to stop. It is a source of anguish to see how traffic is handled, how the streets still are built as if this is a small town. There is a huge amount of traffic out there. There needs to be better planning. |
| The speed limits in the Tucson area are ridiculously low and have been for years!!! Compare many of the same number of lanes and environment to areas in Marana and Oro Valley and you will find the speed limits 5-10 mph higher; subsequently traffic in those areas flows more efficiently. I avoid driving through Tucson to avoid this poorly planned situation. This even means that I will avoid certain businesses because I WILL NOT drive on the road in which it is located. |
| The sprawl factor is really terrible here. It takes at least 20 minutes to get anywhere. There are very few walkable communities in the city. Everything is spread out and there are way too many empty strip malls in this city. |
| The sprawl of Tucson is shameful. Many of us live here for the easy access to wild places. Many of these wild places are being converted to housing developments and decreasing our quality of life. |
| The stop and go traffic of Grant Road, Speedway Blvd., 22nd St., etc. creates tons and tons of pollutants, not to mention spewing asbesto from brake linings, into the air. An expanded route for a parkway or mini freeway would do much to clean up Tucson's air and get much of the gridlock off surface streets. |
| The streets don't match up and you get very confused when you're trying to follow one particular street to find a particular location. |
| The timing of the lights alone would dramatically improve everyone's commute. This town has a serious issue with regard to it's lack of highways. Why not make Speedway a oneway going East and Broadway a oneway going West? Just a suggestion. |
| The tourist trade provides top level liesure activities, but Tucson does not have the negatives, such as severe traffic congestion, that a Phoenix has. |
| The traffic (believe it or not) |
| The traffic and public transportartion |
| The traffic congestion is ridicuulous for a city our size. The pollution from long hours of stop-go traffic, as well as the human frustration of the many hours lost waiting through 4-5 light changes to make a left turn, reduce the quality of life, increase all travel costs, and regrade the environment. |
| The traffic detracts from my quality of life- I spend too much time in my car. |
| The traffic in Tucson is terrible. Very congested and difficult to get around. |
| The traffic is awful. It takes nearly an hour to get from one side of Tucson to the other side. A bypass would be great to alleviate some of the traffic congestion. I think the trolley car is a terrible idea and a waste of road space and money. |
| The traffic is getting to be a deterrent to doing things, and it is going to get only worse. We need to have clear and workable plan for better traffic circulation. |
| The traffic is not bad and places are not overcrowded. I occasionally see people I know here and there around town, but Tucson is big enough to have things to do and great live music. |
| The traffic is pretty bad during the school year. |
| The traffic is really bad. A fast way to get from the west to east side would be great. |
| The traffic is too congested. Something needs to be improved. There are various road projects taking place, which is good, but Tucson needs to grow up and realize they are a big city and plan transportation accordingly. |
| The traffic is very congested due to poor roads and impvoements being delayed. |
| The traffic. |
| The vast size of the urban valley creates traffic and pollution! |
| The water supply will eventually fall short of demand if the city continues to grow. Traffic congestion will worsen, and air quality will deteriorate. |
| The way of life here is simpler, quieter, gentler than other metropolitan areas. The City itself is easy to travel around and through. The streets are wide, well-marked and traffic patterns serve me well. I've lived in other large metropolitan areas that were cold, distant and unfriendly and more one-way streets to confuse you than you can shake a stick at. |
| There are no major thoroughfares to get across Tucson East to West. Traffic is way too congested on Speedway, Broadway, Grant during rush hour. Also, Oracle North to South. |
| There are not many highways in town. seems to be mostly surface streets, which makes traveling just a few miles a longer task |
| There are only4 major streets to go east and west. During rush hour it take longer to get around town. |
| There are too many stoplights and turning traffic. We need ways to get across town more easily. |
| There could be ways to improve the transportation system that would improve traffic flow, transit and multi-modal use. |
| There is NO efficient means of public transportation around Tucson, even in the central or heavily populated parts of the city. The bus system is time consuming and not a viable option for most people. I could see Tucson being a city that would embrace an effective means of transporation and it would help ease the vehicle congestion on our streets. |
| There is a surprising amount of traffic congetsion for the city size. some focused civil (re)engineering could help.... things as small as how lights are timed. |
| There is no easy east/west commute in Tucson along with all the other road issues going north and south. Traffic is a nightmare! |
| There is no reason it should take an hour to drive across Tucson, yet with the lack of good freeways, we Tucsonan's are stuck driving down Grant and Speedway which are filled with daytime traffic. Also, there are potholes everywhere. For example, avenida Largo has been patched three times in the last year for it's horrendous potholes and the road is still horrid. Why not spend the money to repave it, and then it wouldn't have to be repatched for years at least. |
| There is not much of it, making it hard to get around the city even with a personal vehicle |
| There is not much traffic and you can get to other parts of the city quickly |
| There needs to be a better infrastructure plan. With a growing community, we cannot rely on just our own individual vehicles. This is why we are in the traffic mess we are in today, with an RTA program readily admitting that those monies are like a downpayment on a much larger and costly problem. There should be a light rail or similar transit system available for this community. |
| There needs to be an improvement in the freeway system. It takes forever to get anywhere in the center of town. If there was a freeway, say in the river bed, it would be much easier to get from one side to the other. |
| There's too much traffic on residential streets. Because of the grid system people who experience traffic congestion on a major arterial know how easy it is to divert over one or two streets. Then they drive way too fast for those streets with little chance of being caught |
| These make some of the roads difficult to maneuver and hard on our cars |
| Think Big City again. Our streets are 2 lanes each way, congestion is bad and we have no freeways to get around. This is very frustrating. |
| This city is still trying to be small, when the reality is its a good sized town. My friends and I often don't go to places because it takes to long to get somewhere after work. Traffic lights don't seem to work in sync with one another. |
| This is a difficult one to resolve. |
| This is a great city for trying to leave - easy airport in and out, can take road trips easily to lots of places. Easy weekend trips |
| This is just a pet peeve, I really dislike driving in this town. |
| This is more TUCSON than the rest of the 'region' but I value having a neighborhood where we interact and talk to one another, we have places to walk, walk our dogs, and have facilities (markets etc) within walking distance and these facilities are at a scale where we don't need to take our cars to lug our big boxes home afterward. I also value the cultural diversity in our neighborhood this diversity is something to be celebrated not something to be scared of. |
| This is such a difficult place to navigate |
| This is where I live and work. It has historic and architecturally-significant buildings which I appreciate. I also like the short commute time and how easy it usually is to get from one place to another. |
| This will improve sustainability, reduce traffic congestion, facilitate economic growth, and improve quality of life. Also, brings business to Tucson |
| This would cut down on traffic congestion and allow access to more recreational places, such as the County Fair, Sabino Canyon and the Desert Museum, without using personal vehicles. |
| Time is traffic is time wasted and it causes pollution |
| Time the lights so if you are going the speed limit you don't have to stop. would speed travel time and eliminate a lot of pollution |
| Time. frustration on traveling from west of Tucson to east Tucson |
| To alleviate traffic |
| To commute to Phoenix easier. Less congestion in town. Transportation to out skirts of town. Operate train service |
| To get almost anywhere takes at least 20-30 minutes. Somehow we need to divert funds from Phoenix to Tucson and improve this absurd situation. |
| To go from east Tucson to the freeway can take 40 minutes. Some type of through city highway system, similar to Phoenix, needs to be designed and implemented. |
| To help alleviate traffic conditions and for better conservation of resources |
| To improve flow of Tucson traffic |
| To join the many cars on the road during rush hour |
| To make it easier to get around Tucson |
| To much traffic |
| Tons of people to support all the events, and we have a nice down-town to congregate. But, we're spread out enough to avoid traffic woes, congestion, noise and hassle of big city. |
| Too congested |
| Too hard to get across town |
| Too long from one side of Tucson to another |
| Too many aggressive drivers and irresponsible/unstable people on our streets. |
| Too many lights while driving |
| Too many people think the traffic laws are optional. |
| Too many stop lights |
| Too much difficulty getting from 'here' to 'there.' |
| Too much driving is necessary. Wastes energy and time. |
| Too much time wasted traveling across town or downtown so I avoid it as much as possible. |
| Too much traffic congestion |
| Too much traffic, possible solution - more public transport, light rail, carpool, etc. |
| Too much traffic. |
| Too much travel time between entertainment options |
| Too much wasted time getting from here to there |
| Tough to get Eastside to West and all around the town! |
| Town is getting too big and crowded. I dread having to make cross city trips. Encourage density downtown. |
| Traffic |
| Traffic & crime watch camera on every interesection |
| Traffic - at the very least, coordinate the lights |
| Traffic - lack of planning to meet population growth |
| Traffic - more public transportation |
| Traffic // #4.Urban Blight |
| Traffic Flow |
| Traffic Lights |
| Traffic Mitigation |
| Traffic System |
| Traffic across town can be terrible during certain times, but the freeway offers limited accessibility to some areas. More roads like aviation would vastly improve movement, and existing roads could be made to be limited access. |
| Traffic and bus system |
| Traffic and lack of good public transportation |
| Traffic and pollution are more and more of a problem and this should be resolved |
| Traffic and resources for active transportation |
| Traffic backups due to lights not being timed correctly |
| Traffic cameras |
| Traffic can be brutal on I-10 at times, but an express way would help to relieve some of the traffic. |
| Traffic congestion |
| Traffic congestion and driving habits |
| Traffic congestion in general |
| Traffic congestion is getting worse every year. This wastes time and gas, pollutes the air, and makes bicycling less safe. Please put a $2/gallon (well ok, maybe less) city tax on gas as an incentive to get people out of their cars. |
| Traffic congestion is worse than it should be. |
| Traffic control, more large regional parks. Reid and Udall cater to a small portion of the population and a specific demographic |
| Traffic flow |
| Traffic flow - lack of bus pullouts |
| Traffic flow improvements. |
| Traffic flow in area |
| Traffic flow is horrendous moving across the city. |
| Traffic gets worse as I get older, so I would like to be able to rely on a more efficient public transportation system by the time I quit driving. |
| Traffic has gotten worse in the last 15-20 years. We need better methods of moving traffic across town. Maybe more expressways versus highways. |
| Traffic here is awful |
| Traffic in Tucson can be horrific at times and because the city is so spread out it takes a long time to get from one place to another |
| Traffic in Tucson is continuously getting worse |
| Traffic in Tucson is disproportionately bad. For a city this size, it should not take a lifetime to get across town. |
| Traffic infrastructure |
| Traffic is a big concern because of the amount time lost |
| Traffic is a major issue, more $ needs to be put into limited access roadways and mass transit so people don't spend all their time commuting!!! and if the education system doesn't improve we are not going to have a city worth anything |
| Traffic is bad |
| Traffic is bad in the mornings and evenings. |
| Traffic is becoming worse on the surface streets and there is no freeway alternative. We are only a few years away from total gridlock on our streets. Also the streets are in poor condition from all the constant use. |
| Traffic is crazy and will get worse...it is not safe to walk or bike along our major roads. It would also improve peoples ability to use alternative transportation to get to work - and improve our air quality if that happens. |
| Traffic is really bad around Tucson. The northeast side of town seems isolated from the rest of the city because there is no loop. We need a loop from the SE to the NW. That way we could have a true loop around the city. |
| Traffic is still manageable and rush hour is not a threat to your life. |
| Traffic is terrible |
| Traffic is terribly congested in certain areas of town. I think they should bring back the 'suicide lanes' to improve the traffic flow during peak travel times. |
| Traffic issues and how we get around in Tucson |
| Traffic jams in Tucson are getting to be horrible. Let's put in a subway! People not knowing the rules of the road do not help with the transportation problem either. The condition of the streets are appalling. |
| Traffic light synchronization |
| Traffic light timing |
| Traffic lights |
| Traffic makes people angry and care leswsw about each other. We're never more selfish than when we're driving. |
| Traffic management |
| Traffic not unbearable. Friendly people in general. You tend to run into your friends or associates where ever you go. |
| Traffic on oracle |
| Traffic patterns |
| Traffic patterns; traffic flow; maybe synchronize lights on major roads; maybe improve some roads |
| Traffic philosophy |
| Traffic planning ... |
| Traffic planning is horrendous; lights need to be timed to keep traffic moving; |
| Traffic problems |
| Traffic sucks here. we need better transportation grid |
| Traffic sucks! We need wider roads |
| Traffic system |
| Traffic systems |
| Traffic tie-ups a nuisance at rush hours |
| Traffic will continue to be an issue. Tucson needs a beltway and a cross town expressway. |
| Traffic, especially one person per car travel, is destroying the beauty that is Tucson. More roads are built, but it just seems to make congestion worse. We need to stop -- and shift to a new paradigm for moving people from one place to another. We need a strong, interconnected network of mass transit options. |
| Traffic, pollution, sense of community |
| Traffic, streets and movement |
| Traffic. We need a belt loop freeway! |
| Traffic/ ease of getting across town |
| Traffic/Road Conditions |
| Traffic/public transportation |
| Traffic/road conditions. |
| Traffic/roads |
| Traffic/transportation |
| Trafficneed to plan for future be proactive vs. retro |
| Transit/rail (ability to get around without SOV) |
| Transportation corridors seem to be maxed out and these lengthy road projects make people spend even more time sitting in traffic. Longer term mass transport or other solutions needed. |
| Transportation from west Tucson to east Tucson and vice versa. |
| Transportation hard to travel from one area to the other |
| Transportation is critical in this town, but the town is spread over great distances and we are fast losing good flow. People find it hard to get to places of employment--so the bus system needs to be expanded and enhanced. |
| Transportation routes and airplane ability |
| Transportation, especially public transportation and roadways, leaves a lot to be desired. Given the size of the community, it is difficult to get anywhere efficiently due to the lack of throughways and 'express' public transportation options. |
| Transportation, traffic flow, crosstown access, and road conditions |
| Transportation: public and traffic management |
| Travel ease |
| Travel ease from west to east |
| Travel in and around town would be greatly improved |
| Travel is to congested even for a small town |
| Travel often to Bisbee and to northern Arizona - pretty quick trip and somewhere totally different |
| Travel time across city East to West is horrendous |
| Travel time from NE side to anywhere |
| Traveling from one part of town to the other |
| Traveling in the city by car or bus is challenging |
| Traveling to and from school and work can take fairly long due to the fact there is only one free way and the secondary roads are very crowded. |
| Trying to get to the East side of town from the freeway can take over an hour. That's an average of about 15-30 MPH for some trips. Terrible. Road conditions in general are improving, but the projects should be more spread out and sequential. I had THREE simulaneous construction zones centered around my house at once. Luckily one was only a week long and the results are very nice. |
| Tucson continues to grow, both in population and geographic size. It's time to plan, and fund, the appropriate transportation measures to accomodate this growth. This would include more 'expressway' type roads and mass transit methodologies to move people. |
| Tucson covers a lot of ground, and there are interesting things happening all over but it's hard to get places |
| Tucson desperately needs a cross town corridor. |
| Tucson has a small town atmosphere that makes it a very liveable city. You can walk, bike, and/or drive anywhere, generally without too much traffic or too much hassle. As I say this, however, I must also say I recognize that Tucson's small town atmosphere is also something that I dislike - it is clearly a double edged sword. |
| Tucson has all of the entertainment value of a big city without the traffic, noise, rush, or smog of a big city. |
| Tucson has great music, theater, opera, art -- and these are accessible without a long drive or struggle to park. |
| Tucson has grown a lot in the past decade, but the infrastructure of the city has failed to keep pace with the expansion. City streets are to narrow with too few lanes, traffic lights are not timed appropriately to ensure the best flow of traffic. And the bike lanes are not given enough clearance to ensure the safety of the bicylcist. |
| Tucson is a big small town. Easy to get from place to place. Traffic, by comparison with most cities it's size and larger, is really easy to get around. |
| Tucson is a fairly large city with fairly poor traffic flow. It shouldn't take 45 minutes to drive across town under ideal conditions. |
| Tucson is a large city but it doesn't have a lot of freeways that divide it up like Phoenix. |
| Tucson is a large enough community to have access to good medical care, cultural events, restaurants, shopping etc. but still small enough to have a slower pace of life and easier to get around. |
| Tucson is a nightmare to drive around in. Widening the roads is not the ansewer. Need freeways/ light rail. The streets are in horrible shape here! Landscape around the city streets- have you seen Phoenix?! Take note Tucson...it works for them! |
| Tucson is a relatively easy town to commute through. Public transportation could be increased. People are usually friendly, helpful and more laid back than in the midwest and on the coasts. |
| Tucson is a very wide-spread city, and it's hard to get around without the car. The bus is there but not very useful |
| Tucson is big enough to have everything you could possibly need, but small enough that traffic, pollution, and the 'heat island' effect are manageable, unlike that of Phoenix. |
| Tucson is big enough to have lots of stores and restaurants, yet there isn't too much gridlock on the streets. We definitely don't face the big city commuting challenges. |
| Tucson is big enough to offer a variety of experiences with its university and cultural centers and variety of ethnic backgrounds. It is not so big that traffic and distances has become frustrating like Phoenix and Los Angeles. |
| Tucson is big enough to provide options for shopping, entertainment, etc., but small enough to allow reasonable access without excessive traffic delays |
| Tucson is continually working on projects at the same time, that creates gridlock. |
| Tucson is easy navigated, not intimidating, affordable and laid back. |
| Tucson is easy to get around and could be lots better. Also, more mass transit and bicycles (related to Land Use) |
| Tucson is easy to learn and navigate and get about. |
| Tucson is impossible to get around. Need a cross town expressway. |
| Tucson is not a 'walkable' city and it is necessary to drive EVERYWHERE. There is also a ton of stop and go traffic with not enough freeways. |
| Tucson is not a small town anymore. It desperately needs some way to get through the city besides surface streets. A freeway type road through the middle of Tucson would be perfect. |
| Tucson is so spread out that it's hard to get across town |
| Tucson is still small enough that you can get around town using regular streets. Yes we have some traffic but the wait is usually no more than one light and it is delightful to not have the pressure of merging freeway traffic, lane changes, and high speed |
| Tucson is terrible to drive across during daylight hours |
| Tucson is the perfect place to ride a bike. Traffic is so hard to negotiate it is not safe to ride as a commuter in town. With strategic hawking lights bike routes could make safe, fast commutes available from Oracle to Craycroft easily. |
| Tucson is too spread out. I drive way too many miles to attend various events. I would like to see Downtown Tucson become a hot spot. |
| Tucson is very difficult to get around, in fact it is so frusturating that I am not sure I will stay in Tucson due to this. There really needs to be a highway loop or something put in to make travel easier. |
| Tucson is well suited for a real modern streetcar system (not just one short line like we're going to get from the UA to downtown). I would love to see comprehensive rail lines running east/west and north/south so that people could get places without driving. I HATE the excessive car traffic in Tucson. I would also like to see better bike routes with greater connectivity. I don't like riding on bike lanes on busy car roads, but often these are the only ways to get from one side of town to another. |
| Tucson is woefully lacking in mass transit. Add and expand tram-streetcar/light rail and explore other transit opportunities to remove roadway congestion. |
| Tucson isn't so bad compared to the East Coast and LA, but here we spend more time in our cars and travel less miles |
| Tucson may be relatively bike-friendly, but it is still a dangerous place to bike. Need more trans-city routes, also light rail to Phoenix to reduce dangerous driving conditions and traffic congestion. |
| Tucson must have a better way to get from one side of town to the other. Too many rich people are allowed to protect their interests while the majority of us suffer in long lines of traffic. Phoenix may have too many but at least you can get around town. |
| Tucson really NEEDS and OVERALL PLAN to alleviate the rapidly growing traffic problems ... |
| Tucson seems to think that it's a small city and, if we improve the city's traffic by creating a loop for 10 around the north and east side of town, we'll invite sprawl. But looking from Gates Pass at night to the east shows our little valley full of city. I'd love to improve traffic flow. |
| Tucson traffic is poor |
| Tucson's layout makes this a hard one to figure out, I know, but it would make all the difference. I have enjoyed just such a difference in Denver and Phoenix. This type of transport interferes with regular traffic much less and is much faster than the buses. It truly is in the city's interest and the transportation departments need to have more foresight in anticipating the needs of the city according to the way we are growing. They need 10 & 20 year plans. |
| Tucson's natural 'wide open spaces' shouldn't be ruined by clustered traffic messes. |
| Tucson's roads are extremely confusing, and often they are in poor shape, poorly lit, poorly painted, etc. A more direct route to the northeast would be fantastic, because there's so much of beautiful tucson up there. |
| Tucson's streets are too clogged with auto traffic. |
| Uniformity in signals, all left turns either before or after. All lights that have turn lanes to have turn arrow lights. And why so many no u-turns at intersections |
| University here, excellent medical xx availability, easy to get into countryside, and easy to get to wherever need to go, good shopping for groceries. All perdsonally important. |
| Unless we want things to get worse, we need to find solutions to our traffic problems. |
| Upgrade/replace some street signs, repaint street markings |
| Vehicular traffic control |
| Very frustrating and time consuming trying to get from one end of town to the other |
| Very irritating when you are stuck in traffic behind buses... there should be pull outs |
| Very little traffic |
| WITH THE COMPUTER WORLD YOU WOULD THINK CONNECTIONS COULD BE TIMED FOR SHORTER TIME BETWEEN CONNECTIONS. MORE OFTEN THAN NOT YOU WILL MISS A CONNECTION BY MINUTES MEANING ON WEEKENDS WAITING AN HOUR. ONE ALWAYS HAVE TO ALLOW AT LEAST TWO OR THREE HOURS TO GET FROM EAST TO WEST. |
| Waste time commuting |
| We are in desperate need of a better public transportation system as well as a thoroughfare to the East side of town with branches N and S. |
| We badly need fast access, e.g., freeway where Grant Road is now, and perhaps a north/south express up Wilmot or Alvernon. Tucson is not Portland, it is a large , sprawling city now, but you can't move around it without much time and delay. A better infrastructure would facilitate business, tourism and cleaner air. |
| We can go places faster and it reduces traffic. Less smog/air pollution- trains are far less polluting than buses - and better. |
| We can't build our way out of traffic congestion and cars have many negative and adverse effects on city residents |
| We cannot bury our heads in the sand and pretend we don't have traffic problems. Cross-town freeways would improve traffic flow, reduce polution, etc. |
| We desperately need a better way to travel east-west. I know the budget is a disaster, but honestly, major streets were in horrible condition prior to 2009. Quit studying and restudying major route expansion plans and downtown links plans and move on it already! |
| We do not need suh wide residential streets. We can only drive 25 down them anyway, and they increase increase the urban heat island effect. We could use more space for bike pedestrians and plants |
| We don't have good thruways in our city, nor do we have a good bus transportation system. |
| We don't have the crazy traffic/too many people - but we still have most everything you want |
| We live in NE Tucson. It takes us 45 minutes to get to West Tucson. This is ridiculous and reflects upon poor city planning in the past. |
| We live near the corner of Silverbell Rd. and Grant, which is West of the Interstate. Come June my wife will be giving birth at TMC. God forbid she goes into labor any time between 6:00am and 6:00pm because it will takes us 30-40 minutes just to get to the hospital. |
| We live on the east side and it takes forever just to get to the westside to get on I-10 |
| We must look at places like Portland, OR, for some ideas to cut traffic and pollution in this inversion valley. We could have high-speed rail from Nogales to Phoenix, with other transportation off of that line to immensely improve our air and quality of life. |
| We need a fast way to get to the Phoenix metro area to decrease the automobile traffic on 1-10. |
| We need a highway that crosses town. A lot of poor planning for traffic increases. |
| We need an across town (east - west) parkway/freeway. So much time is waisted in commuting across town (22 miles one way). Nothing on the RTA's agenda adresses this. |
| We need and east-west freeway or limited access road which moves greater volumes of traffic. |
| We need better cross-town traffic options so streets are not so congested. |
| We need more forward thinking people to hold these positions. They do not think outside the box when it comes to improving the City and County that Tucson resides in. We need better roads. better ways to move traffice (ie freeways) to get people from one side of Tucson to the other without always having to use surface streets. Also by improving the flow of traffic it will provide be transportation for business that maybe looking to relocate. |
| We need more freeways. Besides I-10, there isn't any easy way to get from one side of town to the other. Tucson has a small town feel and mentality which can be nice at times, but is also unrealistic when it comes to updating our roadways. |
| We need red light cameras downtown. |
| We need somone to head the DOT that's a professional. Jim Glock is incompetent. |
| We need traffic light adjustments |
| We needs thoroughfares/expressways to move through the city. The travel across town grows worse each year. City leaders did not have the foresight to realize that infrastructure is very important element of city growth, along with mass transit such as commuter rails. |
| We really need to bite the bullet and upgrade our public transportation system and our roads. Traffic is only getting worse and putting it off makes it more expense and painful. |
| We shoudl be able to cross town in a more efficient manner. I find it frustrating to only go a few miles and have it take 4xtimes as long during high traffic times of the day. |
| We spend too much time getting across town (East to West takes an hour of personal time), too much congestion |
| We will not have the beautiful mountains to look at if our transportation continues to operate as it is doing. The amount of cars on the road is ridiculous and the lack of reliable, fast transportation in unheard of for a city this size. The roads need to be better planned and we need to make it attractive for people to use public transportation. |
| We've lived in Southern California and there is too much traffic and so many people! |
| Weak urban core hard to get people downtown symphony, arts, culture live in outer areas |
| Weather and ease of getting around |
| What's with sending water clear out Valencia? Why are we not building within instead of sprawling out every where. And why are we building more than we have buyers for. It not only destroys our beautiful desert, it hurts existing homeowners who are trying to sell. Why are there no connecting highways instead of all this street traffic!!! |
| When I go into Tucson, I spent a lot of time sitting in traffic. We need better regional transit connectors and more efficient transit within the city to get people out of their cars. |
| When compared to California and other areas I've |
| When family and friends live on opposite ends of the city, it is difficult to engage in routine life events/situations with them. |
| When surface streets are our primary mode of travel blocking one or more lanes causes great delays, even during non-peak traffic hours. |
| When you try to get any where in this town it's hard. We have terrible roads and the traffic is the pits. Since our washes stay dry and useless most of the year ... why don't we use them for some sort of transit around town. |
| Where I live there is no bus service. This is a huge disadvantage to those that don't drive (the young, the old, those living gently on the planet and the differently abled) |
| Whether I travel on bike, foot, personal or public transportation, it is easy to get around. Having a local airport with international travel is also nice. |
| Whether it's in traffic, in line at a store, or in many other settings, many people here seem grumpy and rude to each other much of the time. We seem to lack compassion for our common man. In other parts of the country, there seems to be more of a sense of community togetherness, as if they're all there to help each other. But here, I feel people have a western landgrab attitude in which if I don't get it, you will, so I'd better beat you to it. |
| While I like keeping a small town feel in Tucson, our infrastructure is severely behind in development. Our traffic system is outdated. We need a major east/west and north/south mode of travel (rather than stoplight streets). |
| While I live within the city limits, it's still at least 1/2 mile to the nearest bus stop. We need more & cheaper mass transit to make various parts of the county more accessible. |
| While Tucson has grown, and there have been many road improvements to the main roads, many of the smaller roads have had no attention; often building takes place increasing the volume of traffic with no road improvements |
| While public transportation in rural areas is lacking, the overall ease of transportation within city limits including auto, bicycle and public commuting is appreciated. The timely manner for road construction/improvements is impressive. I-10 is awesome! |
| While the major streets running east/west run regularly, if you need to head north/south, you need to add at least one extra hour or more to your trip. I would like to reduce our dependence on cars but cannot accommodate the extra time in my schedule. |
| While there are traffic problems they are (over all) minor. |
| Who wants to commute all day? Transportation is important to anyone that has to get anywhere |
| Who wants to drive on cracked, bumpy, pot-holed roads and roads that are too crowded because they were not built for so many drivers? We passed bonds in the 1980s for road projects that still have not been done. And I don't understand why drivers are so rude and feel entitled to speeding and driving recklessly. That attitude needs to be changed. |
| Why does it take years for projects to get done here? In other places, I know they do not take so long. It ties up traffic and makes people frustrated. Add to that areas that need improvement but only get it when it becomes dangerous. And who keeps putting all these stop lights up for side streets? In otherwords, while our traffic is no where near as bad as Pheonix and other areas, they are still very frustration. |
| With the issue of traffic that I addressed on the previous page, I'd like to add that it is not a fun idea to bring the family into downtown for something and have to fight traffic. For people who live outside the area of Tucson, it's much easier to do something outside of Tucson. |
| Would be so nice if there was one (or two) east-weat highways that cut through the city to improve access. Not sure where this would be feasible. It takes forever to drive from one end of the city to the other. |
| Would like to us car less to get around |
| Would reduce the amount of time spent driving all the way through town (maybe over passes would be good, like Phoenix has) |
| You can arrive quickly wherever you go |
| You can not get around Tucson easily, and trying to go to the north or eastern part takes longer than going from Washington to Baltimore |
| You get stuck in traffic a lot here, no way around slow moving traffic. |
| You have to take surface streets most of the time to get from one end of town to the other |
