Less travel time

Air quality, higher insurance rates, preservation, quality of life - time behind the wheel
Better transportation upgrade so that not all construction is occurring at the same time
Better transportation will reduce congestion and commute time
Can save time
Come on, do I really have to explain! Tucson MUST create better ways to get around this sprawling city.
Decisions should be based on what makes economic sense overall. for example - Grant Rd widening. While it makes sense to help existing biz owners stay in place, will the end result be hodge podge properties that aren't worth much? Why not do what Phx did - decide where a freeway is going and blade a path that makes transportation sense. another example is sign codes - it is difficult to go to COT dept and get a different answer each time as to whether or not your sign is to code or temporary or which fee is applicable. If they can tell you you are out of compliance, why do 2 different people give you 2 different answers on how to comply?
Difficult and time consuming to get around
Easier to get around most of the year
Easy city to live in and get around in
Efficiencies less time commuting
Every time I fly out of Tucson I thank my lucky stars that I'm not leaving from Phoenix. TIA is a great airport - it's close, convenient, and - since the new look - is actually somewhat of a destination itself. I wish they had more direct flights but, even so, I love TIA! (no, I am not a TIA employee - I really just appreciate convenient transportation options!)
First of all, the roads in Tucson and pima County need some serious carea and maintenance. Additionally, it is a real hastle to get around the city because there are no expressways. The interstates are only valuable if you are passing through. The area needs limited access highways through teh heart of the city and its east side interconnecting with the freeway system. We are not a small town but we have small town infrastructure.
Getting from the Eastside to the Northwest is too difficult and time consuming.
Hard to get around Tucson without driving. Would be nice to have easier ways to traverse downtown. Especially during lunchtime hours and at night (drinking).
Housing and apartments are generally located close to shopping, transportation, shopping and medical (Doctor and Hospital) facilities. Travel time is reduced and response time by Fire Department and Police is good.
I like to get around - don't like the smog.
I realize that the current infrastructure of both housing and roads in the Tucson region makes many alternative transportation options difficult if not impossible for many. However, over time as redevelopment occurs, mixed-use development, densification, and transportation oriented development could help alleviate some of our current traffic conundrum. Please make it a priority to move us away from the automobile in as many ways as possible.
I spend a lot of time in my car everyday and feel that some of the roads could be improved, especially the most frequently traveled roads. Also, I would like to see better planning when a new community is being built to prevent the traffic situation from becoming unbearable before it is finally fixed.
I spend too much of my time in my car. Effective transportation system is important for business.
I tend not to socialize or attend activities on the other side of town because of the time involved in getting across town.
I think it is a sad day when our Transportation Departments apparently decide that the citizenry are not smart of enough to decide when it is clear and when it is not that we now need arrows to tell us when we can turn and when we cannot. This is an efficient way of controlling traffic, and while I've not been out with a stop watch, I can say with certainty that these new intersections with delayed arrows and turn restrictions add more time to each intersection and to my commute. Combine this with the slow speed limits and the red light/speed cameras and you get people driving on Grant at 30-35 miles an hour and having to stop at every light! Without an efficient way to get across town currently, this is HORRIBLE traffic management and I would give our Transportation Department an F!!!
I think that the construction/fixing of the Tucson area could be greatly improved. I believe that if the roads were repaired or built correctly the first time - there would be no reason to fix them as often as we seem to need to.
I want to get to my college classes on time and I'm always late
I want to protect our beautiful natural environment while at the same time helping lower income folks access the jobs and shopping if they have limited transportation means.
I want to see streets dedicated to PEOPLE not cars. I want the city to devote time and resources to making this city more livable. Bike boulevards, greenways, smaller roads, light rail systems, passenger trains etc.
I wish we could have a good public transportation system, busses that run on time to all neighborhoods and a commuter train across town and to Phoenix!
In our present civilization, time is of the essence. Freeways from south to north and east to west are badly needed.
It can be very stressful to get around Tucson and Pima County. The lights are not timed with efficient travel in mind. I feel I spend half my waking hours stuck at red lights. Also, without more highways in town, there is no expedient way to get from certain parts of the valley to others. A person living on the east side of town can spend about as much time getting to I-10 and Cortaro as it takes to get from Cortaro to Chandler.
It is incredible that the city of Tucson exists without freeways, expressways or without a worthwhile mass transit plan. This is not something to boast about. Poor planning leads to more air polution because citizens cannot get from point A to point B without being able to take efficient environmentally friendly transportation. Not to mention the amount of time that is wasted by Tucsonans struggling in traffic or waiting for too few buses and no light rail. The roads are in poor condition. It takes far too long to make repairs or improvements to roads and infrastructure in Tucson.
It seems like higher quality communities don't depend on cars so much, but public transportation systems need to be easily accessible and time efficient in order for people to be willing to give up their cars for daily commuting.
It's hard to get around via car: potholes, poor left turn lanes, few bus pullouts, no east/west freeway.
It's too time consuming to go a distance that could be traversed more quickly.
Its difficult to go east to west anywhere within Tucson so I spend a lot of time in my vehicle to only go 10 miles
Just like in the first choice, I want to see people change a style of living. Tucson can have more mass and this would help with people being able to get around easier and get what they need.
Makes it difficult to get around town when there are numerous potholes and constant construction
More transportation options/less travel time
Phoenix is an ever growing leviathan that long ago outstripped its self-sustaining ability. Tucson has outstripped its ability to self-sustain as well but because we are a smaller city, we have a much better chance of changing that. We can be a model of sustainability, health and self-sufficiency for the rest of the southwest if we just take the time to understand we don't need to be like Phoenix or other large cities. I like Tucson because it feels personal and accessible. I like Tucson because I can get out of it in less than half an hour.
Red lights change same time
Road building, demolition, and suburban wasteland are destroying our city center, including Rio Neuavo. solutions include: and end to zero master planning, it is time to get some young, creative and contemporary ideas going and to develop a long range master plan, instead of our urban planning being managed as independant projects by commitiees and policy makers instead of urban planners; preservation, renoavation, and adative reuse of hisotric structure, part of the very fabric and character of our city, no more major loses like magic carpet golf and the Santa Rita Hotel. No more road building, we need to find better solutions than super highways that divide our community, no more road widening projects, who what to live in a city of freeways.. more bike commuter access and incentives, time to get creative, plenty of small cities have developed all kinds of models.
Roads are ugly, destroy open space, inevitably get congested and have to be widened, and are time consuming and costly. I want to be able to travel in an efficient, safe, rapid manner to various destinations around town
Save time
Seeing our City grow in population and noticing that our transportation issues have not grown along with the population is a situation where you have to always remember to give yourself a lot of time and patience in getting to and from destinations.
Spend a little more time repairing roads
Takes time away from other things
The Rillito River path and other arteries need to be developed to support more pedestrian and business activity - lighting for night time would be perfect - look at the path around Reid Park as an example. Think San Antonio or Austin in terms of active people zones.
The bus system is not efficient. I would not use it unless I absolutely had to. When driving in Tucson, the lack of a freeway system that moves through town makes for a lot of surface street traffic and increased time on the road.
The time it takes to fix the roads.
There are not enough ways to get around town without a car
There is not a clear goal on what this city and Pima County sees in this future for transportation that incorporates the needs of the people and businesses. I have not seen any major improvements in the last 27 years that I've lived here. It has stifled growth, in my opinion, of this town. It has taken me longer to take my children to school and to get to work...therefore wasting resources such as time and fuel.
They are in deplorable shape. I vote every time for improvements and just don't see that much change.
Too much wasted time getting from here to there
Transportation corridors seem to be maxed out and these lengthy road projects make people spend even more time sitting in traffic. Longer term mass transport or other solutions needed.
Transportation is too time consuming, not wide enough streets to accomodate more than one lane each way, roads are in deplorable condition causing unneccessary wear and tear on cars, creating safety hazards and generally a tremendous source of embarassment!
Travel time across city East to West is horrendous
Tucson is still small enough that you can get around town using regular streets. Yes we have some traffic but the wait is usually no more than one light and it is delightful to not have the pressure of merging freeway traffic, lane changes, and high speed
Tucson must have a better way to get from one side of town to the other. Too many rich people are allowed to protect their interests while the majority of us suffer in long lines of traffic. Phoenix may have too many but at least you can get around town.
Unfortunately, the city of Tucson developed without much planning or vision. It takes a ridiculous amount of time to just get across town. We need a cross-town freeway/expressway running east to west. I personally avoid doing any business on the west side of town (and I mean west of Campbell) because it takes me so long to get there from my home (near Wilmot). I have many friends who feel the same way, and it must be hurting business. Oro Valley has done a much better job of planning.
Want to be more efficient getting there. More time doing/less time driving
We are an urban area but have not come up with reasonable arteries through town to make travel easier. Right now it takes a long time to travel through town.
We badly need fast access, e.g., freeway where Grant Road is now, and perhaps a north/south express up Wilmot or Alvernon. Tucson is not Portland, it is a large , sprawling city now, but you can't move around it without much time and delay. A better infrastructure would facilitate business, tourism and cleaner air.
We do not have an opportunity to do a freeway- that has been off the table for a long time now. Failing that option, we need to follow-up on our streetcar/light rail initiative/motivation. I know that it is controversial, but it works....
We have to solve issues regarding transportation, both too decrease travel time - which will increase productive time, and parking, which is an obstacle for many areas of town.
We want to get to our meeting or appointment on time
When I go into Tucson, I spent a lot of time sitting in traffic. We need better regional transit connectors and more efficient transit within the city to get people out of their cars.
While I'm currently able to drive, I can envision a time when I'd be dependent on public transportation, which is negligible in the area
While Tucson (and surrounding areas) are growing, I like the fact that it doesn't take too long to get from one side to the other. I don't want Tucson to become like Phoenix where it's a day trip to get around to the various cities/towns within the greater-Phoenix region.
Why is so much money going to putting sidewalks on Broadway which east of downtown which is not an area conducive to walking from shop to shop when potholes on residential streets in this area are downright dangerous and getting more expensive to fill the more time goes by.
You cant get across town in a decent time frame and it inhibits me from going to certain parts of town to patronize businesses and events because it is a pain in the butt.
